Credit long overdue (?)

One of the tenets that forms the core of my religion, and one, while not preaching, I do practice with considerable fervor, is that of giving credit where it's due ... so, if it hasn't already been pointed out, I'm taking the liberty of asking Mr. Chopra (for the buck must stop with the producer) to acknowledge that the genesis of this serial is owed to the 'Bridget Jones' Diary' movies as well as 'The Devil Wears Prada' (good thing these sorts of things aren't considered a copyright infringement) ...

So, we have the evil editor at the fashion magazine (Meryl Streep in Devil/Prada) with her retinue of hangers-on ... in comes the overweight feature editor Mahi (Renee Zelwegger as Bridget) hopelessly in lust with a kinda creepy Ishan Singh Ahluvalia (yes, that's supposed to be a 'v' not a 'w'; Hugh Grant) with a somewhat dysfunctional family ... daddy is rational (Jim Broadbent) and mummy is a tad neurotic (Bridget's mum whose name I don't recall) ... OK, so the narcissistic older sis and equally narcissisitic 'best friend' plus the gay designer friend is new - kudos! Then along comes the long-time family friend who eons ago found a home deeeeep in Mahi's long-term memory and has always had a thing for her (Colin Firth) ...

OK ... I have that off my chest ... now ... where I'd like to see you Mr. Chopra be truer to your predecessors is in the humor ... I find myself guffawing less with each new episode (and despite my age I find a lot of 'young' humor hilarious) ... please get your writers to maybe take another peek at those movies to dig up some real gems full of mirth ...

Well, the genesis of Bridget Jones Diary was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice but I don't see a credit for Jane Austen in the film except for naming Colin Firth Mr.Darcy. and if you are talking about Bridget Jones, let's talk about the Edge of Reason where the entire Thailand/prison track was lifted from the film Bangkok Hilton!!!!!!
Also, if you are referring to the handsome bad boy versus the childhood friend, that's a concept that's been around for eons, hasn't it? I'm not saying it's new but you can pick out a hundred films that have the same thing.
We can go on and on comparing every film or TV series with every other film or TV series. Why not just enjoy it.

Why not just enjoy it.
Ah, I see the point got lost in the long preamble ... I would love to enjoy it ... I should love to enjoy it more not only because it reflects a strata of society - with all its trappings - with which I am exceedingly familiar, but because the 'humor' is gut-wrenchingly funny (where the serial appears to be on a downward slide). Now, with regard to Bridget Jones being a modern clone of Austens' P&P ... not exactly ... Mr. D'Arcy wasn't a long time silent lover of Lizzy Bennett, nor was Lizzy someone with low self-esteem lusting over an unscrupulous flaneur (which Mr. I.S. Ahluvalia may/may not be, and the scoundrel Wickham was only mildly and fleetingly interesting to Lizzy), nor was Mrs. Bennett (for all her ditziness) actively seeking a suitor (Mr. Collins was nowhere on the radar, nor were there others for her to pursue once he exited the scene to his parsonage) ... so, in all respects the basic premise of one is orthogonal to that of the other ... a nutty mother, a reasonable father, and 3 younger narcissitic sisters a facsimile makes not ... Perhaps the confusion has arisen because Colin played Mr. D'Arcy in the recent 'authoritative' BBC production (both he and the production were ravishing!!) .... A failure to adequately credit previous work is not exactly catastrophic, just 'bad manners' ... but, if 'plaigiarization' has to be the way to go, let's also strive to bring in the right degree of humor ... incidentally, the wholesale and constant denigration of people overweight isn't especially funny ... it's declasse and perpetuates the worst in society ...

Interesting post.

As for the credit being love 'overdue' or not, I'll leave that question aside.....for me personally....most stories are similar in one way or the other....characters bear some similarities across the board....it's the treatment of that storyline and those characters that matters....the way it all plays out on-screen...and for that very reason, I'm enjoying this show and the characters in it.....no matter who they may be inspired from.

Maybe the credit question would be better posed on the website of the show itself? Why not take it directly to the makers? lol

agree the story is similar to The Devil Wears Prada.......but the cheif editor is much more Devilish pluss sona mona too are too much.....lets see wat turns will it takes from where the film ends........and Credit giving is the last thing that Indian Producers will do so cant expect that from Yash Raj.

Well dearie - you tell me how to traverse that jungle, and trust you me, the makers will be told!
and Credit giving is the last thing that Indian Producers will do so cant expect that from Yash Raj.
Could be true ... but it will be true if silence is our modus operandi ... so folks, along with the fun, one must also learn to find one's own voice and ... use it! Yes?!
most stories are similar in one way or the other
That's unsurprising given that the human condition is universal and our life experiences are remarkably similar ... however (isn't there always a 'however' 😊) ... there is such a thing as an original twist ... enough of a twist that we're not looking at a palimpsest ...
sona mona too are too much
Those two aren't just too much ... they're a blight upon the face of this planet ... it's that kind of portrayal of open disparagement I object to ... they could just as well be shown to carry on their ugly conversations behind her back ... the chief editor on the other hand is funny - the quintessential egghead who cannot keep names straight and really thinks she's God's gift to the world (which at least I doubt, since the existence of 'Gods' has not been irrevocably established) ... and I find the constant spats between Mahi's 2 friends to be irritating! The production team could lighten up on that ...
So ... let's see if soon we will have Shiv run into Roshni and fall head over heels in love (since she is such a looker - I need to get my eyes examined 'cause her beauty is sure eluding me) ... until he realizes that she is an airhead ... I think a similar event did come to pass in Bridget Jones ...
