January 29, 2010 Written Update

Deepu asks 100 rupees from Jyoti and takes 1 rupee out of his pocket, giving it all to a confused Padma. He looks behind and Poonam enters in, surprising everyone. They all are extremely pleased and Dadi praises Jyoti's selection. Padma gives the shagun to Poonam, who takes everyone's blessings. The next day, Jyoti brings a set of new sarees home for Poonam and new clothes for all the family members as well. They ask about how she got the $ for it, and she tells them she got an advance from Bhagya dada. When KK inquires about what she got for herself, Jyoti tells him to not bother with that, since she has lots of nice clothes anyway. Later, the Sharmas wonder whether or not to call Sudha. Jyoti tells them that they shud invite her for Deepu's tilak, no matter if she is allowed to come or not.

In the Vashisht house, CM overhears Sudha asking Uday if she can go and tells her she's free to go to her maayka and not hesitate to even buy an expensive gift for Sandip and his bride. Both are happy. Afterwards, CM goes to talk to Pankaj and tells him that he needs to stop moping and get along with his life… and find someone else maybe. He tells her bluntly he is uninterested but she insists he meets Neelam.

The next day for the tilak, the house is decorated and all are dancing. Jyoti gets dressed up and sees a man waiting outside. She goes to talk to him, which Sushma notices. He hands her a letter which he mentions is from Pankaj. She opens it and is shocked to see it is a divorce notice. End.

So Neelam is the name of that Kota gal? They could have mentioned it before during Uday's engagement, and maybe even shown her. This time, for her sake, if Pankaj does agree to an engagement, I hope he goes all the way and marries her, rather than repeat what Uday did in leaving her high & dry. I can't wait for the Pankaj-Neelam encounter.

I disagree w/ Jyoti's suggestion to invite Sudha, regardless of whether she's allowed or not. After all, previously, Jyoti had asked Sudha not to contact her to avoid friction w/ her sasural, and it's well known that not only Jyoti, but her entire maayka is in the doghouse w/ the Vashisths. Two things were possible here as a result of inviting Sudha:
  1. Since the rest of the Vashisth family was not being invited, it would only serve to underline the divide b/w Sudha and her in-laws - the last thing that either Sudha or the Sharmas need. CM's approval is there b'cos of this very reason - she can use it later against Sudha to demonstrate her loyalties
  2. If Sudha were to be disallowed, it would only make her sadder. Besides, nobody was there for Sudha's wedding, so why was it essential that she be invited here? Just give her the news after the fact. Sudha is just lucky that CM happens to be in a generous mood. She'll be even more generous when she knows that Pankaj is divorcing Jyoti
If I were Sudha, given my own past history w/ Deepu (Dheeli and all that), I'd decline, and use the opportunity to show my loyalty to the sasural.

They did rush this episode. Just 1 meeting, and Poonam determines that Deepu is the guy for her? 🤔

Yes, things are going in a fast pace with Deepu's engagement and all. What's the rush? I dont get it. And Jyoti 's promise that she would get Deepu a colourful life doesnt necessarily mean that everything had to happen the very next day. Just like they did the happy happy dance school episode. There is something called recovery time which these ppl arent using. Blame Padma for all this rush but may be the serial is scheduled to end sometime before summer. Who knows...
And what was CM's rush to send a divorce notice on the same day as Deepu's engagement? She was sitting in front of the laptop for something. I guess she was the one who sent it. And it wasnt a post, it was neither a courier like they showed in promos. It was a same day hand delivered package by one of CM's chamchaas. So that means she started acting upon the divorce the very next minute when Pankaj said "get me out of this mess"... Cant understand Jyoti's reaction towards the divorce notice though. What's shocking her now? Wasnt she prepared for this already? I say better wipe the shock off her face and go and carry on with Deepu's tilak... Also I hope it leads to court scenes where Jyoti cud get more evidence to prove that she is innocent (except for the fact that she kept her past secret for a year).
Jyoti is better single but there should be some way to prove CM and Pankaj wrong and that they are thinking low of her. May be she wasnt a good bahu but that doesnt mean she can be insulted as a characterless woman..not fair..

Yeah, all of the above

Yeah, other than putting the serial on overdrive, I don't see the reason for the rush. Also, it's not how normal families behave. Granted, Deepu was being proposed to even b4 Jyoti was kicked out, but the moment that happened and she was front and center for her maayka, this could have gone on the backburner. Particularly since Deepu himself wanted it that way. Padma's reaction doesn't make sense either - on one hand, she's bellyaching about Deepu having to support both sisters and their soon-to-come babies, and on the other, she's pressing him to get married. What gives? And when Deepu was saying that he wanted to put marriage on hold until Jyoti and Sushma were squared away, he wasn't implying that they were a burden, the way they seem to be taking it. He knew that this could be a factor disrupting his search for a dulhan, and wanted to square that away. If Jyoti and Sushma were simply unmarried, but earning their own living but living there, people wouldn't have had such an issue: it's the sight of 2 divorcees under the same roof that raises their flags, even though the circumstances just happen to be that. Jyoti and Padma could have used the recovery time, instead of Deepu taking huge advances to start Jyoti's dance school, and Jyoti taking a huge advance to get expensive gifts for the wedding, including 2 kurtas for Deepu, one that he may not necessarily wear.

In 'defense' of cm, much as I dislike doing that now, she already had Pankaj's divorce in mind before she knew of Deepu's engagement, since Kesav-ji had made Neelam's marriage to him conditional for Minal being accepted back. So here, I think it's co-incidental, although I daresay even had cm known about this, she would not have delayed it by a week or so until the wedding was over. The divorce papers were hand delivered, but I don't think it was w/o Pankaj's knowledge, since his lawyer was delivering it, and Jyoti seemed to recognize him since they had worked during Sudha's bail hearings. I do however think that had Pankaj known that Sandeep was getting married, he might have held his horses on this until the marriage of Sandeep was complete. Another thing: cm lies a lot. I don't believe that the only person in the Sharma family she hates is Jyoti, given how she wilfully sabotaged the Mehta proposal for Deepu, and went w/ Minal to Jyoti's place to humiliate Sudha, while actively involving Jyoti in every step of Uday's engagement to Neelam.

I too don't understand the shock on Jyoti's face: when Pankaj didn't accept her back on the grounds that she was pregnant w/ his baby (and he knew it was his at least the moment Jyoti said she could prove it w/ DNA, but wouldn't), why is it a shock that he wants to divorce her? Jyoti had already told her parents that if Pankaj asked to be liberated from this marriage, she'd grant it. As it is, she gave a lecture 3 days earlier to Sushma about forgetting the past and moving on: she needs to do that herself. Did that letter have a deadline? Since signing it on the spot is inconvenient, what she can do is sign it, and send it back w/ Uday when he and Sudha return, to be delivered to Pankaj. She needs to, as best as she can, switch back to the happy mode that she was 5 minutes ago, and continue w/ the tilak. Return that signed form and carry on.

I agree that Jyoti is better off single, but am royally 🤬 that she's pregnant w/ Pankaj's baby. One good thing about this divorce is that she would have to stop calling herself Jyoti Vashisth, wouldn't she? And hopefully, lose that sindur and mangal sutra, not to annouce to guys that she's available, but to avoid drawing unwelcome questions about her married life.

As for Pankaj and cm, I think that w/ time, when they see Neelam is nothing like Jyoti, Pankaj at least will at least wonder whether Jyoti was a complete fraud, and regret kicking her out. After all, Jyoti loved Pankaj despite his being blind, but accepted him despite his being rich and from a high society background, whereas w/ Neelam, the latter seems to be one of the few criteria. Kesav-ji may have said that she won't mind marrying Pankaj despite being blind, but how does he know that? If that marriage does go ahead, Neelam may resent being married to Pankaj for just that reason, even if she feels obligated to accept it or go unmarried for good. And this won't be lost on Pankaj, and when cm sees Pankaj unhappy b'cos of Neelam, she may well regret forcing him down this route.

Although I don't see how Jyoti gets her reputation back w/ Pankaj or cm, I do think she can get it back in public, both as a part of the dance group, and by her other caring for people which was generally known before she married. As that takes root, this 'scandal' won't remain front and center, and there can come a time when people look askance @ the Vashisths. I don't want it to go to a trial, unless the objective here is to get Jyoti back to her sasural. But given that she's going to grant the requested divorce, I don't see the point in that.

But shouldnt a divorce notice also have the reasons for the divorce written on it for both parties to read and agree before signing?

If CM has filed it falsely accusing Jyoti as having a najayaz sambandh with Brij, then that's something which Jyoti shouldn't accept and sign.. Jyoti can also file a divorce from her side falsely accusing Pankaj that he is impotent and not able to sexually satisfy her. lol. That will ruin his image as well in the marriage market... wont it? Will he sign it if the reasons for separation are not true?
