Why do they show guha caves and stunts?

In case you are interested in why I obsess abt TRPs, in my personal life I worry abt revenue, customer base and profit margins on a daily basis. So I wanted to follow the money

- the show is at 7.30 pm which is a time when children are at home ... these amar chitra/chandamama kind of stunts (guha caves, snakes, superman like Dev ) are all to attract the young teen/preteen audience. They are not at the time slot that is meant for adults who come back home from work. So it is primarily the rural base, housewifes, and young children
Also, that is why they have this stark contrast between evil and good. If anyone who is following all these shows in india can tell me if there are more advertisements geared towards children during CB than during PR , Agle Janam or other shows that come at 9 pm or after, it would confirm my suspicion

You may have a very good point but then is it really appropriate to show Dev and Radhika love scenes at that time? I mean we are all waiting for ahem-ahem.
How would that fit?
Also is Amma's thought process and actions, Vishakha's pregnancy etc valid for young audiences in India?
If this is true, I am cringing remembering when Vishakha was on project waaris scenen with Dev.

Anamika ... you make a great point. But I am amazed at how much kids in India watch. I live in the US and find that our friend's circle here is generally very protective of what kids can and cannot watch

My nieces and nephews in India ( 8+ ) watch all kinds of shows ... they used to watch Saat phere, Banoo mail teri dulhan, etc. Most Indian movies have really inappropriate songs, etc which kids watch. I dont know if you have watched any Telugu/Tamil movies but the kind of dances, songs shown are quite extreme. I think people there take it with a grain of salt and dont think it is such a big deal, while we worry endlessly abt it. Not saying that one way is right or wrong ... again each family could be different

Villians attacking girls, rapes, people murdering each other are all pretty common in standard movies and kids flock to see this.

I am generally wary of showing Indian movies to my kids though they are going to be teenagers soon unless I have watched it myself. You never know what could come up.

I think CB is extremely tame compared to all of those. That is one of the reasons I like it - they dont show the main leads having sex before marriage. The ahem ahem scene may also be shown only very discreetly and enough to keep our imaginations running wild.

just my 2 cents ... btw ... i may be totally wrong on my hypothesis and the creatives may truly think that this appeals best to their rural or other audience

rajsri - I think this is a very good discussion regarding who the target audience is and makes up the trp's.

Actually what you mention is totally true. When I was growing up, my parents did not really monitor what I watched so me and my sisters pretty much watched whatever was shown on tv where we lived which included Africa, UK and then US.

Now of course as you say all the parents I know totally dictate what our kids can watch and can not watch. In the US TV or movie, a kissing scene is very ordinary whereas in India movies or TV, they will not show a kiss but do the eye locking etc which is ten times more suggestive and longer - case in point CB. Its as good as the mills & Boons /Harlequin romances.

thanks anamika ... i really enjoy looking at things from the business side. Would really have liked to get my hands on some of the data but I am going purely on conjecture

in my daily job i look at different focus groups to maximize the money our various product lines can make. And it is amazing how different the needs and wants of each group can be

however absurd their story lines, etc have been ... the creatives have managed to capture a diverse range of audience ... at the 7.30 pm slot for them to reach the Top 10 is very unique. As you can see from the daily top 10 there is no other show at that time that gets there ... whether it is bcos of their excellent casting of the lead couple or their characterization or their story line it is hard to say.

However they seem to have given each of us a little bit to feel somewhat satisfied but left us wanting a lot more.

I totally agree with you regarding censorship and what we allow our kids to watch ... I think I watched a lot more nonsense on TV growing up than I allow my kids to watch in the US. While in India, it is hard for me to control what they watch - they have CSI and Baywatch blaring at all odd hours for everyone to see!!

Rajsri while growing up in India I was not allowed to watch tv before 9pm. During the weekends also the access was curtailed..........but now when I see my neices and nephews they eat in front of tv and sleep in front of tv................last year when I was in India my 12 year old neice told me that Ranbir Kapoor is very hot.......I thought she meant that since the temperature was around 28/29 deg cent , he is feeling hot..........so being an idiot I asked her how does she know that.........Hearing my question my neice gave me a weird look, my sister burst out in laughter and then the penny dropped and I was sitting there with my mouth open that a 12 year old kid knows when a guy is hot 😕

misti ... now you have my brain ticking that it is the 12+ year old teen girls and their mothers and their grandmothers (maybe) who are all in love with dev and watch the show for him

Maybe the guha caves are to attract the 12 year old boys also

Anyway, guys ... thanks for posting and indulging me ... no one usually wants to analyze or even talk abt who the audience base is ... have tried posting a few times ... get ignored 😭😭

Btw ... we probably do not even get on their TRPs since we watch online

🤗 don't cry

I know that we do not get counted in the trp rating because most of us watch online.

Rajsri, the fan base of Dev is quite large.........I am sure there are loads of teenies who are crazy about him and would gladly change places with Radhika 😉

So true...everything you girls said is sooo true..I should know..I'm in my TEENS..13-17 years of age😎...I love watching TV and going on my laptop...two of the things I can't live without...especially if Avi is on the screen😛...I live in the UK..and I don't watch kissing, etc..I might rarely as a coinsidence...but i have restrictions made by myself...I love CB can't get enough of it because of Avina and Radev...I don't think i'll ever stop watching even if the storyline takes wrong turns..once i'm stuck to something I stick like super super glue...anyway...i'm sure CB won't be as bad as Kasamh Se...Eghhh🤢🤢. My mum and sis know I love CB and go to watch in a different room as I need peace and quiet to watch Avina / Radev😆....On Zee the most annoying serial..one that i can't stand is Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo..it has a really SICK STORYLINE..Eghhh🤢🤢🤢. One serial I do like is Jhansi Ki Rani..obiously after CB..CB rock you are the best....well not really...Avina and Radev are the best. 😛
