I honestly do not blame the TV producers and creatives who work for daily soaps because they are fulfilling their job: Coming up with five episodes a week to fulfill their quota system. Do they fulfill their jobs successfully? No way, but they accomplish it regardless. I support weekly shows anyways as it's more comfortable with my schedule, since, keeping up with even a couple of daily soaps five days a week with work or University can be a tuff task, Lol.
Why is it that the reign of daily soaps for the past 12 years or so has been so successful in India especially? Is it because of the audiences? Is it because of the way the TV networks have been set up there? Why is it that the soaps have been so successful keeping heads glued to the TV sets while showcasing episodes filled with college students playing dumbsharades, or the evil saas torturing the bahu, or the son marrying 12 different women in a lifetime, or a grandmother looking younger than her grandchildren, and the list goes on. I don't know the answer.
I recall weekly shows such as Hip Hip Hurray and even a few family dramas which aired only once a week with substance and a worthy storyline. With the whole logic of airing 7 shows on a channel 5 days a week is flawed, because there's only so much characters can deliver and the rest is up on the story. Creating a decent track needs time, and do the show makers really do have any? Of course not as all the shows on TV look similar with no distinguishing characters or story.
In the end, yes, quality matters more over quantity and I am satisfied with the YRF shows so far, because for real, I am tired of viewing marriages stretch for 5 months on daily soaps; 15 minutes of zooming in on faces of the evil saas or bahu; not being able to classify which show I am watching unless I press Guide on my TV.
