Why do people pretend to be best buds with celebs?

I get that this board is overrun by a hoard of fangirls, who wage wars in the name of their idols, and skewer anyone who may not praise their idol to high heavens. Now, it's only human nature to defend the people you love (even though you've never met them, and they'll never reciprocate the love you give them, and they, most probably, don't care about you), but it seems like the most common defense the fangirls use is 'Oh, she/he would NEVER do that. That's just now how he/she rolls'…. Or 'Trust me, I know him/her, and she/he is not like that at all. She/he would never hurt a fly and donated all of his/her life savings to hungry, African children'….'He/she is clearly not friends with so and so, and so and so would never react this way, that's not in so and so's personality to do so'… yeah yeah, you get the point

So why do people here pretend like they're best buds with the actors/actresses they admire? You can read all the interviews you want, watch all their movies you want, but you can never ever claim to know a person (to the extent that you could predict their mind set, their reactions, or know their innermost thoughts) unless you're some how acquainted with the said person in real life. Besides, these people ACT for a living. How do you know they're not 'acting' in their interviews or wearing their public persona?

Sorry, but it's just a stupid defense tactic. 'I KNOW she wouldn't say that, cuz cuz, I just know k? I know her. I know how she works yaaa'

You ask why people pretend to be best buds with celebs?
The only reason I can think of at this moment is that...maybe they have no friends in the real world; you know...where people actually know they exist.
A more detailed response will come up later. 😎

I just thought of one more thing....many fans think that it's their duty to defend their fav. celebs. It's like they think, "omg if i don't stand up for him/her, then i'm not a real fan".

Its like a automatic reaction. Because u defend the ppl u love, say for like example ur bestfriend or a family member u rele luv and someone came up to u one day and said "ooh so and so did this its real bad" u would automatically defend them and say "no ur liying they would never do that they are the sweetest person alive".

Gurrrrl, doncha know, cuz people on this forum actually are psychics who have gotten trainings from the classic That's So Raven. Get with it.

Preposterous sentences like 'Oh I know my baby, he will neva eva break up with so and so.' or 'my celeb is a gentle hearted kind saint dedicated to work who will never endorse a fairness cream for money' lets murder happen in my already corrupted heart. Yello, these superstars are first of all actors in the profession to make money, and occasionally do we see them attend awareness campaigns because they know that action of theirs will make their fan girls go 'awwww my baby is so amazing, he feeds the hungry.' At this point, if I even make a sane argument such as 'your favorite star is unaware of your existence', it will possibly not work, because at least on the Bollywood forum, the fans live in a parallel world where they have forced themselves to believe that their star is in fact aware of their presence. Of course the superstars are acting in front of the cameras during their press conferences and media related events, because well...well because we just can't argue with the facts now.

In conclusion, I don't know the answer either. People do act as if they are their celebs' best friends or they are in a relationship with them, but I can't reason out the actions. Why does it always have to be that my favorite is always correct and cannot even slay a mosquito or ant, because it's against their ethics. Why is that folks want to reason out every single action of their celebs just because they are in love with them. Please, they are just actors in the business inflating their pockets with rupees by creating relationships for publicity or providing the audiences with maggots filled with cheese cinema. Why is it necessary to read every single article of your favorite and call out on the anti fans just to inflate your ego further over a star on a friggin forum....believe it or not, but others do actually have a life and they do not live on the Bollywood forum, because they have best buds in real life.

Oh, and for a star who is unaware of your existence, name, address, why do you battle with the anti - clan, and stalk them on their Facebook, or beeech about them thru chatting means or secret forums. Honestly all that much for a star who is unaware of you...doesn't that make you feel pathetic at the end of the day?

I just don't understand what people get out of defending their favorites, and constantly proving to the world that they are some sort of saints. If someone doesn't like your idol, let them be.

Another facet to this problem is that the same bunch of people also believe that they own the stars. For example, It has been implied many times here that a certain star only belongs to a certain group of fans because in their eyes they defend them no matter what. They can say things like, "oh stupid X, why does he/she always do this. He should date so and so" but if someone who they think is an anti-fan or outside their group says something negative;they immediately jump on the said member. I don't think stars belong to their fans, they work in bollywood so all bollywood fans and critics have equal rights over them.

D-radcliff just mentioned it so I am going to add to it. I think its okay to discuss stuff on here but what is the need to take problems from here and talk shit behind people's backs on other websites. I personally have not seen this in action but have read many other people talking about this on different threads. I don't take issues from my workplace home, why would I take issues from IF to facebook and twitter seems a little immature and scary to me.

Gotta agree on that one!
Like I said, I know we all like defending our favorites, but there's has got to be a limit, and it's really easy to cross one and sound like a complete lunatic. YOU DON'T THEM PERSONALLY. They AREN'T Saints. They AREN'T martyrs. Let people criticize them, why the eff do you care? Every star has their share of lovers and detractors, why bother trying to filter out the negative opinions? Why do you feel a need to protec them? Are you going to get a medal for Defense 101? Worst, why pretend like you actually know them personally and imtimately?
I remember making a snide comment about Kareena Kapoor meeting Julia Roberts, and how the news came out of someone's ass, to which a fan replied 'Actually, Kareena did recieve a phonecall, and Julia told her how cool she was', or something along those lines. What are you, they're friggin' publicist? And Desu, if you're reading this, I don't think you made that comment. On the contrary, I believe that Desu is the only avid fangirl who can handle criticism fairly well.
