Totally agree with the Simi thing... She's fast slipping down the acting skills table... As of now she has three faces...
i] The lost expression...
ii) the sad expression... and you're lucky if you can tell between the two; and
iii) the making eyes at Abhi expression...
and whats this nastiness to Neetu! How is that contructive!! Show the poor girl some understanding... the deeds done... spitting venom at her aint gonna help lady! She's really another version of her mum isnt she!

First: Raksha - please do not consider this spamming . . . so, I'll apologize in advance for all on this thread . . .it is a discussion on the relevancy of what is depicted on KB . . .
O K!' and while we're at it lets throw Shakespeare and Marx ino the mix!
I'd definitely throw Marx out . . . sorry . . . but he is popular these days where on this planet exactly (Kerala, Naxalites, and Nepalis excepted)? And surely, we're not resorting to Willie to help understand human behavior
wrong again' they're a pervasive and rampant part of our daily lives (especially in the western world) eg. the Freudean slip and the tip of the iceberg.
It does not naturally follow that since these expressions remain in fairly common use, that the underlying theories are valid . . . I mean, we also use the term 'quantum leap' and there aint no such thing . . .
Don't get me wrong, I am no Freudean (refer to my disclaimers in the initial post) yet Im not too chuffed to see the dismissal of a major influence in the field with such disdain, in true American fashion,
American fashion? Belle any number of scientists in this field are transplanted entities on American soil (we'll start with Crick, move on to Damasio, Bach-Y-Rita, Koch, Ramachandran - just as examples that come readily to mind) . . . and just because Freud and Co. have been major influences, one must recognize that they were a product of their own times . . . would you posit that there hasn't been a major revolution in the understanding of at least which parts of the brain are activated under which conditions (how the brain actually processes and stores information as yet, remains in the realm of science fiction)? Who should have precedence? I weigh in on the side of modern neuroscience . . .
did u say concious and unconcious' I thought you were saying saying Freud (and Jung) were obsolete!
Belle . . . there are completely new definitions of conscious and unconscious . . . you may want to pick up one of Damasio's eminently readable books . . . core consciousness, extended consciousness and a whole lot of absolutely fascinating stuff . . . Koch's 'The Quest for Consciousness', on the other hand is an obtuse read . . . this is the next frontier in science . . .
Absolutely not!
OK . . . then you must point me to where there is irrefutable evidence that these concepts are still meaningful . . . preferably in peer reviewed journals . . .
Really? And why is that? they fell out at age 12 (that is abt grade 7 time right?) and up until then they were chums?
Sorry . . . you lost me here . . . but, for me to buy-in into the validity of this, I would have to see the torchlight of neuroscience illuminating daddy-love type concepts . . .
we have at hand a very specific example set firmly within well-known cultural restraints and norms'
An 8 year difference makes one partner "much" older?! Well known cultural restraints/norms doesn't imply immutability . . . culture is an amorphous phenomenon, fortunately, always on the move . . .
May I just add that, an hour glass figure in the female form is considered attractive to males across all cultures 'theres plenty of conclusive research to support that!
Right! Except that it didn't used to be . . . Reubens was painting a whole different body type . . . amongst the Japanese, extreme measures are taken (to this day) to give the female body a uniform cylindrical look . . . they pad their curves out so as to look elegant/ideal in Kimono . . . and in that culture, it's the nape of the neck that is considered erogenous, not cleavage . . .
Males of our species (and vastly around the animal kingdom) are visually oriented' that is a fact! Signals that go to the brain to produce the endorphins invaraibly come from the eyes and the nose'
Well . . . so are females . . . visually oriented . . . except when vision and smell are not the sensory modalities . . . blind people are incapable of feeling attraction? The brain is a wonderfully plastic organ . . . there is some wonderful work done by the late Bach-Y-Rita where sensors on the tongue stimulated the visual cortex allowing some degree of sight in sightless people!
Ahh' biology is superlative!!' something tangible and easily investigated!
But Belle . . . why would 'psychology' not have the same limitations?
youth especially in females is a sign of fertility and the ability to reproduce'
And what . . . Simi is not youthful?!
And I was convinced I was in true love at age 17!! Now yo tell me! Darn!
Of course you were convinced!! And sadly, yes, you were wrong (assuming that the recipient of your feelings is not now your better half) 😊
Mr Sethi has managed to raise a spineless fool like Anuj... where did the genes go Gal? what happened to the DNA! something to do with upbringing perhaps and and not just biology!
Perfectly well explicable . . . I avered that he got nothing but recessive genes from both parents - or an unholy complement of recessive genes . . . so there were no grand mutations (almost always fatal) . . . however, nurture did have it's inevitable but less significant role . . . I also suggest that he's 'subdued/spineless' because Mr. Sethi is a hard role model to emulate . . . I cannot believe how he actually treats Anuj . . . not exactly fun to have your pater screaming at you . . . especially after you're adult and married "cat got your tongue?!! What the hell are you upto?!! Couldn't find your biodata if the lights were turned on?! Your mum did fine, your wife had best learn! You can see yourself out if your in-laws are inflcited on us! both the house and shop are mine
& I'll thank you to remember that! Well, did you close up the shop OK? Cannot depend on you for anything - you're such a waste! You had best crawl back to your bank job' . . . poor Simi and Neetu - forever in for a tongue lashing from mum, and Mr. Sethi not sparing of the verbal rod on his son!

No . .. she's not slipping down the acting skills table . . . that's all they've written in for her . . . poor thing! 😊
Making eyes at Abhi?! She's not doing well enough in that quarter . . .
and whats this nastiness to Neetu! How is that contructive!! Show the poor girl some understanding... the deeds done... spitting venom at her aint gonna help lady!
Wonder if this stems from the fact that there is little empathy for such situations . . . because cultural constraints/norms preempt biology . . . in this part of the world, there is all manner of counseling available . . . and poor Simi is completely untrained in any of these arts . . .
I suggest Abhi not contact her and she shud sa i want to meet you !!!
Yes . . . I agree with this . . . she needs a swift smack on the side of her head to wake her up to reality!
20 missed calls and Jassos Anita looking at the phone calls and glaring at them and wondering why Abhi is sending calls to Simi !!!
Is there no mechansim to lock access to one's cell? I know, I have such a feature on mine . . . if it exists, why oh why did she not activate it? Her leaving the cell behind was clearly premeditated, but did she have to display such idiocy by leaving the damn thing in plain sight?!!!
gIVE THEM OF TO SOME ONE AND START LEADING UR LIFE GIRL !!!
AMEN!! C'mon, I don't want such a steady diet of insane problems . . .
Abhi please get away from this crowd and go on a long drive in ur jeep and u were better off taking pictures of Delhi's beauty and monuments !!!!
And give us a chance to revisit places not seen in several decades . . .

Unfortunately

For who? Don't go worrying about me now babe! ... I aint breaking down over this!😊

according to a recent study by American Psychological Association (this is one of the primary driving forces between psychology in the US today), Freud's theories are regarded as a "desiccated and dead" historcial artifact as they cannot be scientifically tested and thus no longer hold much weight.

Yes I've heard of the APA, and that's what the American reference in my response to SValeCalGal was! Historically anti-Freud sentiment has always been more rampant in the USA than Europe, a cultural thing perhaps... He is still popular today in Italy, Spain even Latin America and Australia. Yes it is possible that that an American Authority is not the final word on something! (*horror)

While I am not about to (or do not in any way claim that I can!) take on the APA single handedly... (aren't you glad to know I'm not delusional! 😊 ) I can offer pro-Freud writings (and no that does not mean I can prove his theories scientifically) perhaps to address the "desiccated and dead claims" but nothing a google search can't offer to those truly interested...

I take the following liberty, because the turn of phrase has already been used here... In the words of Peter Kramer, of "Listening to Prozac" "Even Freudian analysts don't hold themselves 100% to Freud. Psychotherapy is like one of those branching trees, where each of the branches legitimately claims a common ancestry, namely Freud, but none of the branches are sitting at the root. We'd be very mistaken to jettison psychotherapy or Freud."

Let me repeat myself ..I am not a Freudian ... I do no subscribe to his theories in whole... his work is not the holy grail... I'm well aware of the fact that his harshest critics often start out as his followers and what makes me most uncomfortable is that his theories don't leave any room for the problem of child abuse!... Having said that I think he was a great thinker, a man ahead of his time, whose influence has been far-reaching and is often discussed (an essential part of Psychology 101, like you say in the US)... if only to be declared dead!

Phew! Right! So what now yo ask? 😊

I apologise for boring you guys...Like I've said before I offered the term loosely (dare I say, playfully) and requested the dagge(a)rs (get it?) not be unsheathed! Alas, in vain!!!

Will it make you happy if I retracted the diagnosis? 😊
Perhaps we may need to look for another explanation as to why Abhi loves Simi? Or may be we should leave that responsiblity and work to the creative team who unforuntately failed to do anything to make it believable (at least for me)?

If only they were up to the challenge..😒 it's a dirty job but someone's go to do it! 😆

My apologises if I said or wrote anything offense

No need to apologise atall laila, no offense taken! 😊 unless ofcourse that was the intenion in which case I shall have to oblige! 😆

[/QUOTE
Did I tell you I was once a psychotherapist? I still have a license to practice, most people say I should again but it's not for me anymore.😛😉
For real, I am not kidding. And I never did much with Freud but the guy who was my first supervisor as an intern was in love with him and went to psychoanalysis himself everyday.
