Roshni Chopra is the latest to join the list of fatigued stars in the high stress television industry. She collapsed due to sheer exertion on the sets of Kasamh Se in the early hours of Tuesday.
Chopra blames the almost inhuman amount of work pressure that she lives under, for her condition. "We have to work very long hours," she says. "Our work hours are very erratic too. Recently I shot for 52 hours continuously. I guess that's why I passed out on Tuesday. I had not got enough sleep and I also hadn't eaten much since I didn't have an appetite. After the incident I was attended to by a doctor. After that I rested for a day and resumed work yesterday."
Chopra admits that she asked for it by testing her limits. "I was required in most of the scenes over two days of shooting, so I had to be on the sets," she explains. "We have two units working on two shifts alternately, but I continued to work with both units. I knew that what I was doing was not right, but I didn't want to hold up work. So I tried to carry on. I believe this is how it works for most actors in the television industry. This serial is very important for me, so I gave it my all. But I have learnt my lesson now."
Chopra's parents live in Delhi. "I really missed my mother at that time," she says. "However, my colleague Prachi Desai's mom was by my side all through, and I'm thankful to her."
