The BollySpice team is made up of the most enterprising of women who not only handle day jobs but manage to ogle at hot Bollywood actors and stay fashion savvy when it comes to Bollywood clothing. While most of the renowned Indian designers have gone international to become globally recognized, we choose to look beyond the popular ones and admire Indian fashion in films in its entirety. Whether it's fashionable Kareena Kapoor, the avant-garde Bipasha Basu or even the traditional Vidya Balan, we cover them all as we choose our favorite outfits that the women of Bollywood have adorned in recent times. Move over fashion critics, the ladies of BollySpice are ready to show off their favorites amongst the many that have been worn by some of the most fashion conscious Bollywood women. So who will reign supreme? Read on to check out our choices and favorites. Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seat, the show is about to begin!

The Red Lehenga
I am sitting here at home in front of my computer screen and pondering the number of occasions I have sat through a Hindi film without saying 'oooooooooooooooh I want, I want, I really really want'... If I am to be honest it isn't very many. So when tasked with the challenge of selecting just two outfits out of the possible thousands for my imaginary wardrobe, the choice was difficult - but with it being wedding season and with plans of my own marriage looming - a natural first choice was the lehenga!

If money was no object and I could arrange to have a wedding set similar to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's sets for his film Devdas my wedding outfit would be Madhuri Dixit's Red Lehenga from the song 'Kahe Chhed Mohe' which she wore when she performed a mujhra as Chandramukhi. Agreed that the outfit was originally worn by a courtesan in a dance sequence, but there is something about the outfit that screams 'wedding outfit' to me. The color of the outfit may have something to do with this, it being red, the traditional bridal color; but it is the shade of the red that makes it all the more perfect for me. If it had been on the brighter/louder side I would possibly have looked like the stop light at a traffic signal. The red here is more red wine instead of the traffic light red and the gold embroidery offset by the touches of blue as a subtle detailing just makes the color combination perfect. Would I make any changes? Possibly. As a possible bridal outfit, consideration has to be made to the fact that it would be worn all day; I would therefore take some of the embroidery away from the skirt - making it a bit lighter in terms of weight. But apart from that - I think I would keep it exactly the way it is, including the full skirt just so I can stand in the middle of the dance floor during the wedding reception and turn around and create a perfect circle just the once. My husband might wonder what I was doing but it would be so much fun...

Sexy Black Sari
The second outfit I would definitely want in my wardrobe is the black sari worn by Katrina Kaif in the song 'Teri Ore' from last year's blockbuster Singh is Kinng. I have always thought that there is something incredibly sexy about a sari, but the one that Katrina wears in this particular song is stunning purely in its simplicity. A stark contrast from the glamour of my first choice but an outfit that is so elegant that I could not miss it out from the inclusion of my perfect outfits. Why do I love it so much? I guess it is because it is so wearable. I can actually see myself owning something like this sari and then wearing it. I could dress it up and then wear it to a wedding reception or keep it simple and wear it to a dinner with my other half on a night out. Unlike so many of the other outfits that are shown in the films that you would love to own but can't see them actually being worn anywhere in reality, this one is just so perfect in its reality. Plus I think a sexy black sari is kind of like the Indian version of the Little Black Dress. A simple and timeless outfit!

Super-Short Wedding Dress
Although my fashion tastes are more Rock On!! than Fashion, there is one actress whose outfits I always envy - Bipasha Basu. Her sense of on-screen style is both sexy and practical. Unlike some of the outfits I've seen starlets painted into, Bips always looks like she could - in a pinch - boogie comfortably on the dance floor or return volleys of gunshots in a firefight, whatever the role required. One outfit in particular that got me green with envy is her super-short wedding dress in Race! Hitting a few inches above the knee, this mini-dress looks like a delicious spun-sugar confection, with choppy layers of lace tied off at the top with a red bow under a fitted bodice. Matching red shoes seal the deal for a bit of Gothic Lolita meets Bollywood!

The Bollywood Punk
Another outfit of Basu's that had me racing to the Internet to see if I could find the pieces, was from Aa Dekhen Zara. I really envied her punk tomboy styling throughout the film, with that snowflake tattoo at the hollow of her throat only making my heart thump a little harder. Some of her outfits in the film show more stomach than I would want to reveal on myself, but not on the one I'm picking - on the run from some seriously tough bad guys, Bipasha's DJ character throws on the perfect punky ensemble of dark gray cargo pants and a sleeveless black and neon pink shirt. What makes me love it are the effortless accessories - shades, a trendy scarf, and a Britney Spears-style driving cap to top off the outfit. It's something I would wear out to a rock club or even just to the grocery store!

Score another fashion victory for Bipasha - the woman does glam and punk equally well!

Backless Blouse & Afghani Pants
While Sushmita Sen can add chaar chand (four moons) to any outfit, in my opinion this former Ms Universe looked particularly out of this world (literally) in two outfits she adorned in the song 'Mehboob Mere in Khalid Mohammad's Fiza.

Both outfits, equally brilliant, were designed by well-known Bollywood designer Rocky S. Firstly, the Salmon/Orange with Gold sequins 2 piece set, comprising of Afgani pants and a long billowy sleeved, back-less blouse. It was a perfect outfit for the various dance moves she performed (courtesy of the talented Ganesh Hegde) as they complimented her superior figure, showcased the outfit's wonderful design and of course gave audiences endless enjoyment. The outfit is only as good as its accessories and Ms Sen had some choice bling on her side, namely, the matching choker, the tiny beaded head-piece followed by the beautiful bracelets that winded through back of her hand via rings.

Sparkly White
My second choice would be the sparkly white outfit which dominated most of the song. A long, straight, shiny white skirt with long side slits (to facilitate optimal dancing) ending with saree-like pleats at the front. This was complimented by a capped-sleeve choli (blouse) which was equally exquisite. Once again the accessories chosen for this were simply divine. The long array of silver bejewelled arm-bands, the elegant necklace that covered her neck and chest and the incredible headpiece, made the outfit take a life of its own. This particular outfit was firstly worn without the various accessories, where it looks stunning on Sen who had her hair down. In the second instance, her hair is in a tight bun, her head encapsulated in the divine head piece, assisted by the matching necklace, which totally transformed the same simple outfit, into something worthy of the nymphs of Indralokh.

Elegant Sari
Rarely am I impressed with the designs of saris that our leading ladies sport in their latest flicks nowadays. As clichd as it sounds, I have to admit it seems that the focus these days is too much on showing toned abs and less on the actual sari. However I was pleasantly surprised with the design for Lara Dutta in David Dhawan's Partner. I'd love to add this one to my collection for the simple fact that its exactly what a sari inherent trait is which to me is sheer elegance! Such a design reminds you that a sari is perhaps the sexiest outfit there is that enhances a ladies figure, sex appeal and overall look without the need for the extra added skin-show that many designers attempt to achieve. The mixture of gold and silver is simply divine and makes Lara shine like a goddess! For me this one is definitely worth a cat fight over!

The 'Bole Chuddiyaan' Outfit
When I first saw Kareena Kapoor grooving to the tunes of 'Bole Chuddiyaan' in this magical outfit in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I was left stunned at the design. After a long time had I seen a choli suit with an innovative design. The designer definitely ventured out to be really innovative and the result was a hybrid between what is a choli (blouse) inherently but in fact sewn in a mixed design of a salwar pants design from a churidaar. The fish tail ended kurti and the soft toned color went perfectly with the distinct look that Bebo was sporting. However, the highlight of the outfit was that although it was inherently Indian and elegant, it still wasn't over done and had a feel of casualness to it. A rare combination indeed as Indian outfits by nature are anything but casual! It's this great blend of a rare design and casual feel that this outfit still remains memorable!

Blue & Black Lehenga
First, let me say I love Madhuri Dixit and I really, really, really loved Aaja Nachle. I love to watch her dance; she is poetry in motion and makes every movement full of joy. You just have to watch the title song in Aaja Nachle to see what I mean. However, this is a piece on outfits we must have, not on my raving for Mads and her blue & black lehenga in the title song Aaja Nachle is just full-stop gorgeousness. The color with the mix of that teal blue and black, and the beautiful beading, how it sparkled and added to her movement in the dance, was just perfect. I love everything about it. From the moment I saw this, I said I must have it. Where will I wear it? Well, I don't know, but I must have it! Sadly, I still have not gotten it but a ladki can have a sapna, na? Okay bad Hinglish, but you get the idea. This would be a dream outfit for me and then I can imagine I am Mads dancing in the moonlight on a stage...okay coming back from my dream.

Kajol's Red Lehenga
Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha is another of my favorite movies and actually this is the outfit that made me come up with the idea for this feature! There are actually several outfits in this film I would love to have (the white outfit in 'Ajnabee Mujhko Itna Bataa'), some not so much (the overall short thing) but the red lehenga she wears in the song 'Aaj Hai Sagai' is one outfit I definitely covet. As you can tell from my picks, I like sparkly stuff, but more than anything I love the red with the gold thread and I love the skirt. Kajol looks stunning and I want to look that way too. Again, I have no idea where I would wear it but I am sure I will have a fancy place to go if I ever can acquire this outfit. Perhaps dancing and singing with Ajay or Shah Rukh or Imran or Ranbir or Vivek or Shahid sighh... well yes, once again I dream!

Sakina's All-White Wardrobe
First of my favorite outfits is the costume Sonam Kapoor wears in Saawariya as her character Sakina works on the loom. I can't get enough of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's color scheme in this film, thin as the plot may be; the gold-edged white of her cap, jacket, and skirt blends nicely with the blues of the movie. It also stands in stark contrast with Salman Khan's all-black-dressed Iman. During these flashback scenes, Sakina's all-white wardrobe symbolizes her purity and innocence during her heady first fall into love. However, solely from a girly appreciation standpoint, the ensemble is lovely; the fitted jacket contrasts nicely with the indulgent frothiness of the skirt, and the cap illuminates Sonam's gorgeous dark locks. I wouldn't mind weaving if I could look so stylish while I worked!

Blue & Green Ghagra Choli
The second outfit I covet is Priyanka Chopra's ensemble in 'Saiyyan Re' from the movie Salaam-e-Ishq. I mean, sure, it's definitely an item number type of outfit, as befits her Kkamini, and sure, it's a little, er, on the skimpy side for everyday wear. But I don't care; if I could look half so good in the glitterfied blue choli and gorgeously embroidered green skirt (ghagra) and dupatta, I would don them at every opportunity. Of course, it serves to enhance Priyanka's fun dancing during the song, but I like to think it would enhance my writing as well!

Bring back the 70s
You know what the best thing about fashion is? Nothing ever goes out of style. It's a never-ending circle; everything is used, abused and used again. With that thought in mind, I went rummaging through my mind to find the favoritest of favorite Bollywood outfits. As much as I love fresh new designs, it's old classics that piques my interests more. The current Bollywood fashion trend has flashed back to the 70s with the return of anarkalis and I'm pretty excited. Many designers have put their personal zing to the original anakarlis with different cuts, lengths and embroderies but sometimes originals remain as the real winner. This brings us to Madhuri's classic white anarkali she wore in the ending of the song 'O Re Piya' from Aaja Nachle. The ensemble immediately reminded me of the ones that Meena Kumari graced in Pakeezah. Although, I'd say Madhuri's was a softer version of the elegant, vibrant ones Meena Kumari wore, that's one of the things that made me gush over the outfit. The white color usually seems too subdued and casual, however, I think it can be done elegantly when need be. The golden embroideries add that elegance in Madhuri's outfit and with the beautifully cut swooped neckline, it's quite sexy in the modest way. Anarkalis are majorly done in vibrant, bright colors in addition to heavy embroidery thus this white one was an even more appealing surprise amongst the rest.

Black & White Sari
My second favourite pick is Kajol's black and white sari from the song 'Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte' from Rab Ne Mila Di Jodi. Both my picks being white is a complete coincidence. This one has a nice retro feel to it with its 3 1/4 sleeved blouse. The silver embroideries gave a lovely new vibe to the simple saree Nargis wore in 'Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua' (Shri 420) in 1955. The demureness of white, the contrast of black and the elegance of silver really made this sari stand out to me.

Champagne Sari
I like 'em young and fun whether they're Desi or not. And interestingly, one of my most favorite outfits has been worn by our Desi girl Priyanka Chopra in Dostana. Her champagne sari number had me floored from the minute I saw her dancing around the dance floor with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. The color of her shiny sari was not only unconventional, just the way I like it, but the blouse fitted her character to the T. The bikini blouse worked well with the Miami angle and yet managed to stay desi and chic. The detailing on the blouse, the glitter and straps, add the flashy factor which allowed her to keep the accessories to a minimum. Full marks to Manish Malhotra for this ace sari and another one to add to my list of "must haves."

Mini Patch-Dress
From one glam-doll to another, my next pick is the racy but trendy dress that Bipasha Basu paraded around in the promo song of Goal. What I loved most is the colorful colors that were worked into as patches all over the dress. And only Bipasha can work the length, mini of course, and the band around the bottom of the dress added that much needed oomph to the dress along with the low back. Sheik and fun, this dress rocks because of its wearability.

- Roshni Mulchandani

And our BollySpice Fashion Show comes to an au courant end. While the ladies wished that we could go on for eons about more of our favorites, this feature would go on for ages. As we close the curtains to the show, we encourage you to stay fashionable and look for inspiration from all your favorite Bollywood fashionistas!

I couldnt have said it better myself..the short clothes looks soo s-t-u-p-i-d! Why even bother wearing the clothes then shows every tire or crease a person has pshh..
I didnt ever understand the craze of Kat's black sari with that pink border.. it looked normal to me 😆
Im more punk, hats/hoodies/jeans/trainers/t-shirt etc... Indian clothing is never on my list of things to buy, its too cold to wear such clothes in Britain but i do like that 70's look MD has in aaja nachle. 😊
