Big brother Sanjay Dutt makes an unannounced visit to kid brother Fardeen Khan's house and mistakenly believes Bipasha Basu, instead of Mughda
Ajay Devgn in a still from the movie All the Best More Stills

Godse, to be his newfound bhabhi.

All the Best: Fun Begins (Comedy)
Cast: Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Mughda Godse
Direction: Rohit Shetty
Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes
Critic's Rating: ***

This doesn't augur well for Ajay Devgn, Fardeen's friend, who happens to be Bipasha's boyfriend. But the truth cannot be revealed because Sanjay Dutt's millions bankroll the down and out foursome. Ajay Devgn seems to be enjoying his newfound love for comedy, ever since he discovered his funny rib with the Golmaal series. Having already proved his forte with strong, sultry, on-the-boil simmering characters, the actor is trying to reinvent himself as Bollywood's new goofball. Seems to be working for, despite his non-joker (read flippant) looks, he does strike a chord with his bubble gum act, his sense of comic timing and his throwaway lines. All the Best, his home production, provides him an opportunity for an encore after the success of the Golmaal sequels. Of course, this time again, he returns with his Golmaal director, Rohit Shetty who has confessed his unbound fascination for the Manmohan Desai brand of cinema.

Manmohan Desai, did we say? Now that's a benchmark that's sure hard to meet. David Dhawan's been trying to measure up to the erstwhile comedy king's oeuvre for so long. But he has managed it only once with Coolie No 1. By and large, the brilliance and exuberance of films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb and Coolie remain untouched. All the Best doesn't even come close to any of the sparkling gems of milestone laugh riots. In fact, it begins so sluggishly you are almost ready to write it off. Understandably, the current comedy trend doesn't aspire to make any demands on your grey cells and we do not have a problem with that. But the first few reels of All the Best are hell bent on unleashing a complete dumbing down of plot, character, comedy. So much so, even the flowers that proliferate the screen -- the gardens, the bushes, the creepers, the ponds -- are artificial. But if you are patient enough to give the screwballs a bit of time, the goofiness does begin to crackle and the comedy does pick up, post the entry of Sanjay Dutt as the meddlesome big brother who takes a short detour to Goa, enroute to Lusoto with a jar of lime pickle.

Why Goa? Because his kid brother, Fardeen Khan, lives there with his girlfriend, Mughda Godse, in big brother's house, on big brother's pocket money that finances not only his dreams of becoming a rock star, but also helps friend Ajay Devgn along the way. Now Ajay Devgn is another archetypal beach bum who leaves the roti, kapda, makan concerns to better half, Bipasha, while he tinkers with his indigenous Formula 1 roadster. Bips meanwhile tries her best to make ends meet by running a decrepit gym with second hand treadmills.

And remains uncomplaining too. So where's the hitch? Big brother's unscheduled visit sends them all in a tizzy because he thinks Fardeen is married and mistakes Devgn's girlfriend, Bipasha to be chhota bhai's biwi. This is the beginning of a long soap opera that draws most of its laughs from a series of mistaken identities, where Bipasha must pose as devout bhabhi, Mughda must fit in as Devgn's girlfriend and both the strapping lads must learn to control their testosterone while big brother plays buffer between their better halves.

Events get more chaotic due to two other factors. First, there's the jhopad-patti turned lottery-winner (Sanjay Mishra making for most of the laughs) who is now the owner of Fardeen's house, but can't take possession because Sanjay Dutt clobbers him as soon as he dares to enter the portals. So he remains parked in a tempo with all his luggage, red trousers, et al, with his mantra of 'Just chill'. And second, there's a visitor from Lusoto who desperately needs the pickle jar and comes with a band of gun-toting Lusotons!

All the Best offers some rib-tickling moments, but mostly in the second half as the loose plot gradually gives way to complete mayhem and the characters begin to have fun on screen, specially Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn.

Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra too join in the tamasha, while Fardeen and the girls mostly stand-by as bystanders. Pritam's music score is flashy and matches up to the carnival-like atmosphere of Goa and its beach parties. By far, this one's not a rip-roaring comedy, but does make-do for some Diwali masti.

'All The Best': Paisa Vasool!

The movie is a complete family entertainer.

Review of All The Best

Review

A case of mistaken identities is always a great subject to play on as it keeps the audience in splits. Director Rohit Shetty capitalizes on this and he succeeds in delivering a good follow-up to 'Golmaal' and 'Golmaal 2'.

What is commendable is the director's capability to etch out each character and give them unique identities. While Ashwini's character speaks in a strong South Indian accent, Asrani likes to give muhawras at every instant. 'All The Best' is a good situational comedy.

Review of All The Best

The songs of 'All The Best....Fun Begins' suit the mood of the film. The action sequences are inspired repeats of some memorable Hollywood blockbusters. You can even spot a "Ghajini" here and there. Watch out for the somersaulting car act by Ajay Devgn. The dialogues by Bunty Rathod and Sajid Farhad are humorous and keep the flow of the movie in place.

Splendid performances from Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse and Bipasha Basu add to the 'All The Best' charm.

Review of All The Best

'All The Best' is the ultimate pop movie, which has liberal measures of "comedy, action, emotion, romance, drama, tragedy".

'All The Best....Fun Begins' is the best movie in town, this Diwali, which you can watch with a liberal serving of popcorn and coke. For here, is the ultimate on-screen dhamaka.

'Money is an excellent servant, but can be a horrible master' finely defines a situation where an incredibly varied cast of characters weave together a story under one roof that constantly builds in intensity and surprise.

As Rohit Shetty has always been known for his mind boggling heroic action sequences and splendid comedy, 'All the best' is a fine combination of just everything. A wannabe car expert Prem Chopra (Ajay Devgan) with his beautiful wife Jhanvi (Bipasha Basu) running his ancestral gym, a claiming to be married upcoming rock band singer Veer Kapoor (Fardeen Khan) who's living on his brother's pocket money and Veer's ravishing girlfriend Vidya (Mugdha Godse). Just when everything is going great guns in their lives, enters the upcoming singer's millionaire step brother Dharam Kapoor (Sanjay Dutt) bringing with him stumbling madness and generating hilariously awkward situations in just everyone's life around.

The outcome results into rib-tickling humorous state where Veer and Prem handle the multiple vague characters arriving unexpectedly at their place and dealing with acquaintances where they proudly swank and cover up everything with lies, lies and more lies.

Even the world's best jugglers can juggle for a limited time. How far do these guys hold on? Hassled, pressurized and scrutinized, do they give up at one point? Or does the new player on the block also has something wrapped underneath all these events.

We can just say ALL THE BEST to that.

Sometimes, we laugh at movies. At times, we laugh in movies. Thankfully, ALL THE BEST, helmed by Rohit Shetty, belongs to the latter type.

ALL THE BEST makes no claims of catering to the intelligentsia or the elite. Instead, it's aimed at those who want to spend two hours of their precious life flexing their facial muscles. ALL THE BEST is for those who expect fun and laughter unlimited in those two hours. This one makes you smile, laugh, even break into a guffaw at times.

Write your own movie review of All The Best
The jokes and the goings-on may appear silly, but who cares! As long as one feels positive and wears a smile on the face even after the show has ended, nothing else matters.

Comedy is serious business and Rohit Shetty is a pro at this genre now. This time, the talented director seeks inspiration from RIGHT BED, WRONG HUSBAND and what works to the advantage are two factors - the written material and the right casting. Both are just right!

From time to time, it has been noticed that some films are made with the motive of keeping you entertained. ALL THE BEST is one of those films. Go, have a blast this Diwali!

Veer [Fardeen Khan], a singer by profession, is greedy of extracting extra pocket money from his brother Dharam [Sanjay Dutt], a business-honcho. Veer lies to Dharam that he has got married and his friend Prem [Ajay Devgn], a concept car expert, lends a helping hand in cooking up this alibi.

Veer is in love with Vidya [Mugdha Godse], but has qualified in the hate list of her father. Prem is happily married to Jhanvi [Bipasha Basu], who takes care of his ancestor's outdated gymnasium. Veer and Prem land up in debts as they had opted for a short-cut to earn easy money.

The two get into a bigger soup when Dharam pays a sudden visit to their place. Time does not give a chance and unavoidable circumstances arouse such situations that Prem's wife Jhanvi is mistaken for Veer's and Veer's girlfriend for Prem's.

Like his previous films, director Rohit Shetty rests the story on multiple characters, with a dozen odd actors in supporting roles. With so many characters in the film, it generally tends to get confusing, but ALL THE BEST has an easy-to-comprehend story and a trouble-free and uncomplicated screenplay [Robin Bhatt and Yunus Sajawal].

Ten minutes into the film and you know that ALL THE BEST is all about mistaken identities. But the proceedings actually take off when Sanju enters the scene. That's when you get drawn into this madcap world completely.

A number of sequences are howlarious. Note Johny Lever's intro. Ditto for Sanjay Mishra's track. Also, when Johny Lever regains his voice - towards the climax - it's sooooo funny. On the flip side, the pace drops in the middle of the second hour. Also Pritam's musical score is uninspiring and the songs act as speed breakers.

Rohit Shetty is in top form and his team of writers, Robin and Yunus, contribute enormously in making this film watchable. Dudley's cinematography is perfect. Farhad - Sajid and Bunty Rathore's dialogue are very much in sync with the mood of the film. In fact, a few one-liners are extremely witty.

Sanju portrays his part well. His sequences with Ajay are truly fantastic. But the show-stopper is undoubtedly Ajay, whose comic timing is only getting better. He plays to the gallery completely and delivers a sparkling performance. Fardeen needs to loosen up, though he makes a sincere attempt. Bipasha is sweet, while Mugdha doesn't get much scope. Amongst supporting actors, Johny Lever and Sanjay Mishra are in terrific form. Mukesh Tiwari, Vijay Patkar, Ashwini Kalsekar and Atul Parchure lend credible report.

On the whole, ALL THE BEST is fun and laughter unlimited. At the box-office, the festive period coupled with the solid track record of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty and also the strong merits will ensure ample footfalls at cineplexes, making its investors laugh all the way to the bank. Recommended!
