Maternal family,
maternal family, maternal family, maternal family, maternal family, maternal family, maternal family!

Yay! Love you my maternal family!🤗

As for paternal family, the less said the better. The only person I can tolerate from my paternal family would be my father, Ha Ha.😆

I love everyone in my maternal family. Be it my aunties, (um, uncles...no so much), my cousins, my grandmother/father, etc etc. Paternal family never appealed to me. I think they are very caring and all, but very much old-fashioned, and conservative-minded, and most importantly, brainwashed by their religion/culture. My maternal family, on the other hand, is much more liberal, and understanding. But that's not the proper reason actually. There's just something in my maternal family that my paternal family lacks.

Both. But I grew closer to the paternal side of my family after I passed high school. They are a no-non sense practical kind of simple folks. I figured out how much they care and love me after I grew up and noticed that they were always there when needed even if they seem to disappear when everything was going hunky dory.
My maternal family has always been more mushy-gushy lovey-dovey and they have always been there for us - irrespective of what kind of time we are having. I loved them more when I was a kid but now I love both equally.
P.S. I think another reason why I felt closer to my maternal family while growing up was how free my mom used to be when we visited them or when they visited us. The level of comfort my mom had with her folks permeates to us kids too and we were also more free with our maternal family.

Everyone knows you're supposed to love your mom's side of the family, and not be able to stand your dad's side, because they're mean and greedy. Its like a universal truth, d'uh.

Ajnu, in our desi culture - sons/brothers are supposed to help out their extended families even after they get married. There are no materialistic expectations from the daughters. On the contrary, daughters and her family is bestowed with gifts and love and affection when ever she visited her parents/brothers.
This is why most of us grow up seeing our dad doling out money to our paternal side of family where as we are only receiving from the maternal side of the family. The rationale becomes clearer when one grows up a bit. Deep down, both sides care for us and love us. It's just that we see mostly one side manifesting it more than the other - hence the bias.

Paternal family. We are like one big family and we celebrate festivals together. Cousins are more like friends in my parenal family. Nothing against maternal family but I hardly connect with them.
