The UN's Human Rights Council, meeting in Geneva, is expected to ratify draft principles which recognises the scale of persecution suffered by 65 million 'untouchables' or 'Dalits' who carry out the most menial and degrading work as a human rights abuse.
It's quite sad that even though India is a western country, our elected leaders still have not done anything to fix this problem and embarrass us in front of others.

Yes it is not good to discriminate people based on caste etc. Character and bevahiour are most important . I wonder if it would be useful to give such persons a new name and a new status and free them.
If necessary, all names that denote any kind of caste should be renamed and changed.

India is a country that is most culturally different. You have to accept some definations of the West and ignore a few definations because things are done a bit differently here
If you want to follow everything blindly that the West defines as Good and bad then god bless you, b'cos even they cant seem to come up with a uniform defination of what is good and bad.
India(n Government) is doing a good progress in eliminating inequality and the progress is commendable given the fact that it has such a huge population and has junta who wants to whine at pretty much everything that the Government does

ditto to much of what you have said...
also this is a social thing - yes the government can do things, but its the people that have to change. And that can only be a slow process. Anyu of these changes that happen too fast will unravel even faster.
See I'm in India and i never knew about caste or creed until much later in my life. because that topic never came up in my childhood. so it is changing and will change slowly...
its the same thing as racism.. why are muslims targetted more in western countries because of the terrorist attacks... Why was their differentiation between black and white people for so long...all of this differentiation have to slowly change and whats more important is perception of people has to change.
