OMG. The scene was so lovely.
But her hands should have been burned more by the fire. As in burned so much that she couldn't ever use her hands permanetly (I'm a doc so it's stuf flike that bothers me).

Agreed uvalaw.. there are very young girls watching.. that is why this scene as well as the one where she cuts her hand bothers me.. you and I know better to put our hands in fire to just retrieve material stuff, I would understand if you are saving someone's life... I know for sure that when this epi comes in US and my daughter is sitting with me and watching, I will pause and explain the fiction vs. fact scenario... even though she will roll her eyes.. she openly tells me that the lectures I give her is always there in the back of her mind...

Yes, I too thought that she should have 3rd degree burns. But then again I am very aware that Choti Bahu is not a documentary about real life events it is a soap opera.
And hence it was wonderful to enjoy the scene as it was meant to be enjoyed.

Yes I do believe that they should be more authentic in showing this kind of scenes but I to agree with you Angake that The events in the Indian soap opera have only one mind to show these scenes as to show the purpose of the events in the story line.. and how it serves to develop the characters of the show...
This scene and cutting of wrist was medically not right but it served it purpose in the story line to show ultimate sacrifice of daughter and ultimate sacrifice of a beloved for her man..
People felt it in their heart and understood the silent love of Radh for her Dev and Dev's declaration of love to protect and eliminate any threat which comes against Radh's happiness.. It bonded them more tightly and on top of that ammaji was trying to break this knote but it got more tightened never to be broken..
I personally loved every moment and every details of it...

if u ask me this kind of expression of love is really unreastic and dangerous for kids to watch on a medium like Tv .
It also speaks a lot for Radhika's persona.........masochistic one . She is a glutton for pain , isnt she ? Pain pleases her , pain takes her to ecstasies . Love for her is supreme Pain .
Well , it neednt be . There is no need to put hands in fire to take bangles out ........bangles r only symbols of love , the feeling of love cannot be burnt in any way and love has to be matured enough to know that from inside . Other bangles can be bought and two capable hands untouched by fire r more useful to protect that love and carry it forward than two incapacitated hands . Radhika has seen how useless Vivek is as an invalid after losing his limbs........the Purohits want a CB who is capable of shouldering all the responsibilities that Mrin and Vivek cannot shoulder ........burnt hands will give only additional prolems to the Purohits and Poor Dev who has been put thru such torture till now .
It is extremely masochistic that Radhika's first expressions of love came out while seeing Dev suffer physically during the shama Vrat . She expresses love only when he is in pain and only thru inflicting pain on herself or him [ when she can clearly avoid his pain b y telling the truth...........that he doesnt need to ask forgiveness from five elements of nature as she is already married to him .]
Radhika can endure seeing Dev almost die of thirst , and now what is this childish drama of running to fire to get bangles out ? If Amma was childishly spiteful , so was Radhika equally immature and masochistic .

Agree with all of you. The message was beautiful however they should have been more careful in the portrayal.

Maybe they trying to show Radhika as Sita and she volunteered to give the Agni Pariksha to prove to Dev or maybe Amma that she really loves Dev and can overcome any obstacle.

The Panditji compared them to Ram-Sita and Shiv- Parvati. I think this were the creatives are heading with these scenes.

I would have been happier if Dev stopped her by the time she had couple of bangles on her wrist. This would have made more sense cause the way she pulled out all the bangles the girl should have been in the hospital. In fact yest I was wondering if they will take some scenes from the movie Vivaah with 3rd degree burns.

Oh well, its just entertainment for mature adults... Word of caution, please, please don't show it to your young children.

I'm a parent with young children and I never watch any tv or movies with my kids unless it's a Disney flick. It's a personal choice...some wouldn't mind sitting with their kids and explaining why that girl is burning her hands or why that man is shooting that other man with a gun. The extent that tv's messages reach your children is based on your own discretion and what you allow to reach your children. Yes any kid who knows how to use the internet can find and watch anything they want, but again I think it depends on the parents. I don't blame CB's creators/writers/directors for portraying violence. It's a fictional show and meant to be a means of fantasy and escape for viewers. I'm sure all of us can come up with a long list of things that are unrealistic about CB. But you know what? I could care less that it's unrealistic. I watch CB to get some relief and escape from the pressures of my daily real life...the same reason anyone would go watch a movie or play a sport or take up a hobby: to get some relaxation and pleasure. I watch CB alone or with friends who share an interest for it. My husband has no interest in soaps and usually plays with the kids while I have my CB fix.
The fact that CB is sending the wrong messages...well, the same thing can be said about most tv shows and films. What are we supposed to do, ban everything because it's sending the wrong message? YOU be the judge of what your kids can watch and if you find anything objectionable or offensive then just turn off your tv and don't watch. I don't watch "Shree" because I don't like bhoot kahaniyan but that doesn't mean someone else finds it offensive or objectionable, right? Anyway, sorry for the rant. This post is not directed at any one person, it's just a general one. I'm just sharing my opinion since the discussion was started.
And as far as RaDev and the issue of pain=pleasure...I have a lot to say on that but YIKES it's 3am and I need to hit the sack!!! CB overload today, LOL!

Hi Friends - On the reality or fictional of the fire scene whether it is good to show such scenes or not point, I agree with Sandeepa. We can't ban everything and CB is not the only show that is showing fiction objectionable for minor(young) viewers. It is upto the parents to decide on letting what the child to watch.

KS - I, as an indepent individual, also don't like Radhika hiding the marriage truth from Dev. I had agreed with your view point to most of your posts in the past.
But, on this one I will have to disagree.
Knowing Rads personality, I don't call her a masochist or her actions as masochistic.
She comes out of her shell (it's an involuntary action) when she sees her loved ones are going thru pain, in dev's case she reacted to physical pain not that she don't understand his emotional pain but feels helpless, again, it's for the way she was brought up. Had she been the real daughter of Shastriji and had enjoyed all rights equally with Vishaka then, expectation of her to fight for her rights and put Dev on the top of her priorities in relationships would be just. all I am trying to say is 'she is not an independent person like Vishaka', can't go against her adopted family's welfare as her life is indebted to them.
When Dev was about to start the Kshama Vrat, she did insist Devki to tell the truth (she couldn't feel the liberty of taking Dev into confidence at that time).
Today when she had put her hands in the fire, there was only one thing on her mind (first of all she never expected Amma to bun those bangles so, was in a shocked state), in that state she could think only one thing, that she need to take those bangles out of fire and it is getting late for puja. For me, when a person is in a shocked state, they can't think of alternate safer method of fixing the situation than what ever method comes to the mind (logic don't work at that moment for everybody). If only Rads is a logical person, CB story would have been how we all have been expecting (to some extent).
I hope I made some sense here (having difficulty putting my thoughts into proper words), sorry if it is offending.

Thank you Sandeepa108. I have been wanting to reply to this particular discussion but just didn't know how to without hurting anyone.

You have put down my feelings word to word. Like you said -- to me CB is a form of escapism from our day to day activities. I record the show and watch it when my little ones have gone to bed. I don't know if this concept can be understood but when I watch CB it is solely 'my time' where it is just me, Radhika and Dev :), where I am not running around doing stuff for my family or thinking about work. It is fun to watch, it is fun to come to the forum to see what everyone is talking about and yes sometimes over analyse scenes and Dev's good looks. Not for a moment do I expect complete realism (realism to some extent-yes) from this show.

Like Sandeepa I too had to vent. Sorry guys!!! I too don't mean to be offensive just wanted to get it off my chest.

Sandeepa/razor12/angake..
Love your reasonings and explanations.. . There are so many awesome things about the show and so many things to learn from.. the the weight of the good things is far greater than sordid details.. The comparision of good and evil would be always in any show.. Even though some things could be unrealistic.. but those moments are there for the building of the character and to show certain levels and depths of the character..
Personally I love CB and the depths of each character and portrayal of their emotions and persona..
