So, again I feel pretty much like an outsider intruding here, but what to do, some fan girls are making my head go round and round. I post something at 3:55:11 and it gets reported at 3:55:12, but that's beside the matter. Among all of the forums, I would maintain my claim on this forum to be the most level headed with intellectual members, and fair moderators. With that being said, lets actually get to the point of this topic. Hah.

Ok, so from my observations and such, I came to a conclusion that a certain section is all gaga only over talent (and this includes me) whereas, a particular section is only about looks.

I am not going to be a saint and state that looks don't matter because Bollywood is the shallowest place on Earth where even beautiful girls undergo surgeries to look more beautiful. Too bad they screw themselves up without knowing.

So, what's more important to you? Looks or talent? How do you think Bollywood itself judges these stars? Do you think it's accurate for talent to be not recognized over something superficial such as looks? Do you think Katrina is British or Indian? (Kidding. It's a joke. Ignore.)

For example, as much as some members have PM'ed me with images of Katrina from the net, I am still not convinced about her acting skills. She may be beautiful, and even more so due to her fuller lips and chest, but I am bent on not including her in the 'actors' list. Same goes with almost 3/4 of these 'superstars.' *Rolls eyes.* Only Prateik Babbar is an exception who seems to be the savior.

Often times on topics, I find myself as well commenting just on the looks of actors, maybe because they haven't done substantial acting for me to even judge them. However, many fans just protect these stars with their fatty acids only because they tend to believe that their favorites are HAWT and GAWJUS. OMG!

Without further ado, do write your views with reasoning.

I love Parteik and everything, but he has a longgg way to go in the industry. He's no savior, yet. He has to prove himself. He's not the only guy from Bollywood who can act, I think we have better actors than him.

I would say talent, nothings worse than wooden acting. I think Konkona Sen may not be conventionally good looking to some but she is very talented and has got great screen presence. A big part of bollywood is glamour and so looks are important and that is obvious from the amount of actresses that were previously beauty queens. But i think many of these actresses have broken the myth that models can't act, like Juhi Chawla she may have entered the industry being a Miss India but i think she is one of the few actresses that does comedy well. Aishwarya Rai has also shown that she is more than a pretty face with her acting and dance skills in films like HDDCS.

I think we all have our superficial moments where we fixate on an actor's looks as opposed to their talent. Then again Bollywood is more about stars than actors for the most part. It is equal parts good looks, charisma, and sometimes talent. I have a few favourites and usually I like them when I like their personality. For instance, Imtiaz Ali and Deepika Padukone are two of my favourites. Their movies may not be my favourite movies in a particular year but I like them for their down to earth attitude among other things.

I also agree with Riya, that Prateik has a long way to go. There are plenty of good actors in this industry. Though they may not be stars. Some examples are Chitrangada Singh, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Abhay Deol, Konkana Sen Sharma. I like a lot of these actors and I make a consistent effort to watch their movies as opposed to the likes of Dil Bole Hadippa or Luck.

Nice topic.. reminds me of ma fav song.. tu cheez badi hai mast mast.. As they say in bolly movies.. Chahat pe kiska zor hai boss.. jisko like karna hai.. bindass karo khul ke karo.. I dont believe in herds mentality or "the emperor's clothes syndrome" about liking someone.. just because 10000 more people are liking that person.. Jisse bhi like karne ka.. apne eshtyle se..khul ke.. As long as looks are concerned.. my straight forward funda is.. celebs have to amuse me.. in any way.. if they are talented.. I migth like their talent if they are good looking I might like them for that.. But the worst sceneario is bad looking untalented people.. tat I cannot take.. cauz even I am like that.. and I dont want my idol to be like that.. atleast..lolz.. Baaki if someone tries to sell me something with the tag of "art movies"... "intelectual cinema"... please give me a break.. I dont give a damn.. I just watch cinema for entertainment.. So I am not ashamed of the fact tat some good looking celebs amuse.. me.. why not..they are just entertainers after all.. ya if they were running for office.. or they were ma docs.. or lawyers.. then I would not give "looks" that much priority!

nice post, i had a feeling someone was going to mkae this sooner or later lol. i think there should be balance of looks and talent. But its not only good loooks that help actors successed its also the fact how well connected they are. Ex. Imran Khan a nice actor but already so much fame because his uncle is Amir Khan; Ranbir kapoor is also ok but so mcuh fame because hes related to practically all the famous kapoors. Sonam not so great but still fmaous cuz shes Anil's daughter.

for me talent comes first if u cant act whats looks really going to do for you. I never was crazy abut Shahid before even though he ws good looking back then but after i saw vivah then JWM now kamieny and DBH im crazy about him. Looks are important but there not most important talent should always come first in acting.

But i agree with u when u said that bollywood is shallow lol, i odnt understand why beutiful girls go under the knife and end up ruining thier look.

And part on Pratiek Babbar he was only in one movie right? so i thibnk he has a really long way to go or at least star in a movie where hes main lead

I comprehend Prateik has a long way to go, but I think I already like him more than all of the so called super stars that are being born and are being equated with the Khans. 😆
Konkana stole my heart (HAH) in Mr. and Mrs. Iyer along with Rahul Bose. Oh man, if only I can see a movie of that sort again. Little_Rake, I agree with your points, but I actualy do find Konkana to be quite charming. I am also hoping that we have moved from the notion of only white skinned women being 'beautiful.'
I really do want to reply to every single post, but before that, I am going to ask a question and it's a dumb one too. I am not too familiar with talented stars, and you lot mention Chitragandha Singh, Pathak, Ranvir Shorey. Can I please know more about them maybe? As Flav said, Chitragandha Singh is in Hazaaron Khwaashon Mein, and I will probably rent this one this weekend, but what about the others?
HAHAHA, IF is sometimes way too stalker friendly Flav.

Honey, how much do you want to know? I can sing their praises all day. Hazaaron Khwashein Asi is probably one of the best Indian films come out this decade period. Everyone is fantastic in it. Kay Kay Menon is the most underrated actor right now according to me, considering how good he really is.
Vinay Pathak started out in television and then he eventually started doing character roles in films. Eventually he, Rajat Kapoor(also acted in things on television), and Ranvir Shorey (a former VJ) decided to work in more smaller budget movies but that had heart to them. Rajat Kapoor's first directorial film was actually I think probably the first largely publicly financed movie in India where people on the internet donated small contributions to him so he could complete Raghu Romeo (a movie I adore).
Some films to see Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey together or individually are: Khosla Ka Ghosla, Bheja Fry, and Mithya. Now, there are a couple other movies I like, but that are a bit more experimental so I won't mention them at this point.
