Tell us about the title – "Dil Bole Hadippa."
The title DBH stand for the fact that our film is a very entertaining film. It is a fun film and I think Hadippa is an exclamation which is made when we are in a good mood, or when we are happy or when we are celebrating , which is somewhere the flavor of our film. Secondly it stands for Punjab. There is a lot if Punjab in the film. Thirdly it stands for our Director, Anurag Singh, who is pretty Hadippa in every which way. The way he visualizes his colors, his frames. He always looks at everything in a positive way, in a feel good entertaining fashion. I still remember the day we were shooting in Punjab, on the first day, Anurag came up to me very excitedly, and said Shahid now you are here, now we will start shooting..see that is the red car and this red car will go straight through the field. It will look so good. It will be fun. So that goes for the fact that he is really high on energy.

Reaction to the script when you read it for the first time.
As an actor, I am trying to do all kinds of films. I am trying my hand at everything. I am still at the stage when I am discovering different sides to myself. It's the character who is a cricketer, which is something I have not done before. It's the kind of a flavor of the film, which I have not done before. It's new for me that way. The script is very unique in a certain way. Obviously there is Yash Raj and there is Rani who is a brilliant actor. So there are quite a few things which I liked about the whole set up.

Your experience with first time director Anurag Singh.
When I met him I didn't know how to communicate with him because we have had no background. We didn't know each other at all. I actually met him after the narration. But somehow I felt that it was easy working with him, we were on the same page. He is not a fussy Director. He lets you find your own way, he lets you do your own thing unless he feels that something is going wrong he won't interrupt you. What was really impressive was he had his shot break down ready 6 months before we actually started the shooting. This is what he told me. It shows his dedication. Somebody who is really passionate but at the same time he was really stressed. But he loves what he does and he does it with passion. I have had a nice time working with him. I really wish the film does well because he put his 200 % in the film.

Were you shocked when you came to know that Rani is playing a Sardar ji?
I was surprised when I was offered the film with Rani. It was the first time when I was approached to do a film with YRF and heard the subject. I thought that it had something to do for me. Obviously Rani has an interesting character where she plays a boy. The character of Veer is very interesting and the interaction of Veer with Rohan, I enjoyed more than Veera's interaction with Rohan. It was really very hilarious. But I was very confident about Rani playing Veer because she has done some brilliant work in the past so I was sure that if anybody can pull this off it would be Rani and no one else and when we actually started the shooting it turned out really nice.

You, Anurag and Rani used to have cricket training sessions, which you used to skip?
Yeah, actually I was busy in shooting every day and there is no other reason for skipping the training sessions. I have played a lot of cricket, till I reached college, at school, I used to spend 6 – 7 hrs to just play cricket. But at the end of the day Rohan, the character should look professional, and that was the only concern but unfortunately I couldn't practice. But Rani actually practiced for 3 – 4 months and took it really seriously. I still remember the day when I was traveling from Bandra and was going back to my home, I got a call from Rani all excited and she called me to come to the ground near Juhu. I went there and saw Rani all padded up and one bowler bowling to her and Anurag just watching. When she saw me she said, see how I play Shahid. And she did play really well. After that she suddenly handed the bat to me and said now you play .So I played for almost 5 minutes or so and she looked pretty satisfied. Then she said, now if you want you can go. So actually that was her way of checking out if the hero of her film knows to play cricket or not. Am I taking my role seriously or not? So that was a really nice incident and it only goes to show how dedicated she is towards her work.

Tell us about the music of Dil Bole Hadippa.
Of all the people I have worked with, Pritam has become my favorite off late. I have had fun working with him. He is a big surprise packet. He gave brilliant music for my last film. And you are always wondering what will he deliver for the music and he always surprises you. He has always done the best be it Jab we met, be it Kismat Konnection, Be it DBH. He has given chartbusters. Pritam has done an outstanding job of Punjabi Bhangra - which is supposed to be played at every shaadi, every celebration. The lyrics of the film have supported the music a lot. It has very interesting tracks like Dil Bole Hadippa, Disco Wale and some fun lyrics.

Tell us about the Bombay schedule.
We were shooting at the airport and we were shooting with an Air India Boeing and everybody was really excited. And Anurag as always came running and said that there is a problem and the airport authorities are not allowing us to shoot. Anupamji and I were shooting together. So while the production team was talking to the airport authorities, we told them that we are just rehearsing and we actually shot the scene and we gave the shot and after the shot Sudeep Da literally put up the camera on his shoulder and ran from there and Anurag had already left from there 10 minutes before everybody as he was paranoid.

Tell us about the song Gym Shim.
It was never supposed to be in the film. It just came up suddenly. I just love the track and the lyrics are pretty cool.

Tell us about the shot with men in towels.
I am not in my towel- I was in my tracks and I had a towel around my neck but ya, a lot of semi naked men were there because it was a men's changing room and in that shot Rani is playing Veer and she is trying to get inside the men's changing room and as soon as she opens the door she sees a man who takes down his tracks and stands in his underwear and then she immediately shuts down the door. I am looking out for Veer to have a team meeting and then I see him standing out of the changing room and ask him to get in and then he enters and sits in the middle of the semi naked men. So that was really funny!

Tell us about the shot the ball shot?
Every assistant in the crew was trying to throw the ball in the right place and we were trying to get it right for almost 6 hours - just trying to get that one shot right. It was really tough and we needed to do that against the silhouette of the sun. We started at 8 am and as the time went by the sun kept rising high and Anurag's heart was pounding because time was getting wasted but fortunately we got it right. It is a nice shot and comes as a part of my introduction in the film.

Your experience of shooting in Punjab.
This is my second film in Punjab. I love shooting in Punjab. I love Chandigarh, I love the food, though I can binge on it only once in a while. So I had a lot of fun. I became very comfortable with the city.

Tell us about the buffalo scene.
I'll just explain the scenario to you first. You get ready for the shot with all the make up on, with perfume all over, feeling nice about life and excited about the shoot and suddenly you smell cow dung and there is big, huge truck parked in front of you with a lot of hay on it and when you go at the back of the truck you see a huge buffalo and you are told that you are going to be sitting with it on a truck driving on a "Masha Allah" road. So that is how it started. We were supposed to be 20 people on the truck but eventually it was only me, Rani and Sudeep da on the truck. Buffalos don't like people very close to them , so the buffalo's tail must have hit Sudeep da 15- 17 times and we had the camera falling several times and Anurag who was our gladiator on the set was in the car with a monitor attached. We had quite a bit of fun.

Reactions to the Trailer.
I have got a very positive response. People like me and Rani together. Kaminey was a different film and this film has different sides of me. It looks like a fun film. I have really got a very positive response and I am really happy.

Tell us about your character Rohan.
Rohan is a very straight up person. I have always seen him as a guy who is on the quieter side but has a lot of presence as he knows what he is doing. He loves India but at the same time he does not make a big deal about who he is. He is very strict on the field. I think Rohan has two sides to him. Outside the field he is more relaxed, chilled out but on the field he is very professional.

Does Rohan have a foreign accent?
No he is somebody who lives with his mother who is an Indian. The way she speaks doesn't have an accent so he is not somebody with much of an accent. He often visits his father in India so he is connected to his roots.

Tell us about the time the sets got ruined.
Yes, the sets got ruined twice. It was raining quite heavily and there was ' keechad' uptil the knees. Also Anurag was very depressed because it's his first film and the sets for his first film had got destroyed. The entire production team had worked very hard to put it back. But you won't even know while seeing the movie that something of this sort had happened.

Which is your favorite track from Dil Bole Hadippa?
It's a difficult question. My favorite track is the title track, Gym Shim and Discowale Khisko Remix.

Tell us about eating Maggi in the dhaba.
Actually me and Rani were really high on fitness, working out really hard, eating right and one day we were driving back and it was 2 – 3 days of shooting and we said, "yaar just leave it, let's go and eat something which is fattening, which is unhealthy." So we stopped at this dhaba which had rocking maggi with hot tea and we all sat there with the sun setting and just ate that food with hot tea and just felt Punjab soaking in.

The crew worked out together in the gym?
Yes, our cameraman, Sudeep da became a fitness fanatic when he started shooting the film, our choreographer of one of the songs- Chinni Prakash, also seemed very fitness oriented- I saw him in the gym and he was searching for what to do, because I don't think he had been to the gym before. Obviously Rani was in the gym, doing her yoga, her exercise etc. And Anurag Singh- we asked him to come to the gym, but he would go to sleep at 9:30 in the night.

Tell us about watching films with the entire crew?
Ya, I remember we all went to see this film and after the film we all were coming out of the theater and there were a lot of people. I remember Vaibhavi and I were walking ahead together and suddenly we heard a voice saying "Who is it? Who did it?" and we turned behind and saw Rani losing her cool because some guys did not behave as they should have behaved and Rani's parents were pushed so we saw Rani shouting on top of her voice. So that was the voice which I will always remember.

Which character do you like more-Veer or Veera?
I think Veer-Rohan and Veer are extremely funny together. It's very fresh, very different. It was a guy to guy interaction and to have that kind of interaction with Rani was really nice.

How was it working with Rani after the commercial you first did together?
I was telling Rani this throughout the movie that "Rani I am your fan, I still don't believe I am doing a film with you after that commercial." And she always used to get damn irritated. She used to say Shahid, now you my actor, please behave like a hero. But working with her you really gain a lot. She has so much experience on her side. She is so focused and I really respect that in anybody. I had a fantastic time working with her.

Tell us about working with Sherlyn.
We didn't have too much to do together. But she seemed like a really nice girl. It is one of her first films and I wish her all the best.

Tell us about working with Rakhi.
Rakhi is an entertainer on the set and off the set. She is always upto some masti which is really nice. I had very little to do with her but it was nice working with her and yes, there was a light which almost fell on her but we managed to move her aside on time.

How was it working with Mamta Anand, the costume designer?
It's the first time I am working with her. She has a great attitude and she knew what she was doing. She won't burden you with 100 changes and try out different things on you. She knows her job well and you let her decide what is better for you. Otherwise I am really particular about this but with her I didn't really feel I should tell her anything. She kept it very basic, not very loud and it is mostly 3/4th s and all which I have worn.

What should the audience expect from the film?
I am doing all kinds of films but DBH is a film which I have not attempted before, it is high on entertainment, a colorful film- it's the first time me and Rani are working together. It's my first movie with Yash Raj. It's the first time I am playing a cricketer so just enjoy the movie!

What does Hadippa means to you?
It means being happy, Punjab, Bhangra & chak de fatte!

When will your heart say Hadippa?
My heart will say Hadippa on the Friday the film will release and when people will like the film.

What was your experience with YRF.
YRF is an extremely professional set up to work with. The best thing about YRF is that it is headed by a creative man. Adi is a director himself and he is the producer. Usually there are problems when the Director is on a different side and the Producer is on the different side. Here, you have somebody who understands the creative part so it is a lot easier to communicate with him.
