Beauty is subjective. Even in pictures?

Ok this is a very funny situation I came across from personal experience .. and I'd like to ask all of you.

Photogenic - I am just not talking about looks of people. I am also referring to beautiful landscapes captured in photos. Photogenic means somebody/something that looks attractive in photographs. It's often a compliment.

But - say if somebody comments "Oh you look so different in your pictures - you're photogenic" 😆 - Is that a backhanded compliment or disguised insult?

Or when people go on to say "OMG - is it the same beach we went to yday - It looks so good in the pic"

Ok ok i know- it's a very superficial thing to debate about - coz it involves looks/beauty, which is highly subjective but I am curious to know your replies - what everybody's point of views r on this.

1) Most people tend to look better in real life as opposed to pictures as they have their strong personalities to balance out their looks. So then, is it an unfortunate thing to look better in pictures than in person? Or it's only good for, in certain professions ?

2) Do you agree that all photos are just a way of capturing what is there already ?

3) Would you think people are indirectly trying to put you down when they constantly say "you're photogenic" instead of "you're beautiful" ?

4)Is it true that what appears great in real-life will appear as great in photographs too? And vice-versa?

I have a simple philosophy in life - if you can take anything that somebody throws at you to be a compliment, then why take it otherwise? In all honesty, I don't think anyone has the time to come up with disguised insults. And if they do, then they're just jealous anyways, so why bother? At least when I don't like someone, I say it to their face.

Its not unfortunate to look bad in pictures, its a plus. If you have the beauty and the personality, then what else do you need? Of course, it is necessary in some professions (and since you can make a living off of looking photogenic - then why not?). I see Priyanka Chopra in your signature, and I recently watched her interview on that new Farah Khan show, where she said that she came into this industry because someone said she was photogenic.

Sometimes, pictures distort reality, in the sense that they present it in a way that misconstrues what is really there, leading to a deceptive perception in our minds. So yes, photos can be misleading.

3) Would you think people are indirectly trying to put you down when they constantly say "you're photogenic" instead of "you're beautiful" ?

Absolutely not. I think in order to be photogenic, you first have to be beautiful, right? Not all those who are beautiful are photogenic.

4)Is it true that what appears great in real-life will appear as great in photographs too? And vice-versa?

Absolutely not. Somethings are so beautiful that even a photo cannot capture its true beauty. Although I have not seen it myself, I am told that pictures don't even begin to describe how beautiful the Taj Mahal is. Or if you want a more human example, I am told that Sushmita Sen is a lot more beautiful when you see her face-to-face, then she is on television. And that Aishwariya Rai isn't half as pretty as she looks on screen. Of course, personal biases are involved, but hey, why let go of a moment to bash Aish, right? 😉😆

Now a days plastic surgen can make u beautiful as u wish then take the snaps......, you can have a beautiful face, beautiful eyes, a beautiful nose...you can change your skin....you can change your shape.......but become a photogenic dont change anything ...Cos If the inner becoms beautiful -- which is in your hands -- the outer will have to mold itself according to the inner......😊
