Hiya everyone
I live in UK and I'm thinking of studying medicine
Basically I'm trying to decide whether to do Maths as well as Bio and Chem
So anyonw who's studying or studied medicine or knows someonw who is, if you could write what A-levels you took and what uni you got into it wold be really helpful
Also hopefully this hasn't happened but if anyone couldn't do medicine, what did you do instead?
Thanks, TJ
(Sorry if this should be posted on schools froum but thats a bit inactive so i thought it would be better here)

Ok I think i can help you out just let me know what exactly you wanna find out?
If you want to do medicine then the best and probably compulsory subjects to take are Biology and Chemistry. Those 2 are a must. But it is a huge plus point if you have maths in that as well cos then all 3 A2 subjects will be very hard and challenging subjects.
If you don't get in to medicine then I would suggest something like optometry/dentistry/biomedical sciences etc. Cos they are along the similar lines as the subjects you have to take at A level in order to do them at Uni is very similar.
Btw what unis are you looking to apply to?

Woah your aiming veryy high! Make sure you have a backup choice as your insurance. You should always have 2 very high unis, two good unis and 1 that is average. But since ur doing med you only get 4 choices and the 5th is another course right? If you're taking up Italian then I don't think it's gonna lower your chances cos it's not an easy course but pls explain what u mean, are you gonna pick up Italian in 2nd year and drop Maths so only get an As in Maths and an As in Italian? Cos you will need atleast 3 A2's! Out of which 2 of them have to be Bio and Chem as you already know.
Just make sure you have a backup university incase you don't get in to the university of your choice due to a slip in grades. (obviously hopefully that won't happen ;) )
You done your UKCAT yet?

Hey I live in the UK... currently doing my A-levels... I'm going to be applying for medicine this month at university
To study medicine you need to do Chemistry and Biology... Maths is not compulsory... I studied Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English Language and Literature at AS level and will be dropping Maths now and carry on with the other three subjects onto A level.
It will be useful to look at some university websites and see what their requirements are for applying to medicine... but Chemistry is 100% essential
Other than tht u need to be doing some voluntary work and work experience somehow related to the course... e.g at a nursing home or a GP surgery etc...

Wow you got to do 5 ASs, they wont let us at our school

Wow hun you have great GCSE grades!!
I'm with Rukhaya-med students need atleast 2 sets of 2 weeks of work experience in the medical field that you wish to study at uni.
Btw I think rukhaya is doin 4 A levels, Chem, bio, maths and englishlit&lang is one subject if i'm not wrong? :S Cos most schools won't let you take Eng lit AND lang if it's seperated in to 2 different subjects.
P.S: Maths isn't as useful, you could do Italian too, It'd defo help with the communication barrier with patients and stuff. :)
Ah I feel really bad for you, you have to do your 4 A levels, UKCAT, medicine interview at all 4 unis AND a medicine entry test at oxbridgee! :| lol Make sure you work hard from day 1-so many of my really smart friends regret not doing that from the beginning. =(
