no way- it is foolish to celebrate this- women are NOT equal to men. We can only compare "like" things. When women and men are 2 different species, wanting to celebrate their "equality" is laughable. It is unfair for an apple to be equalled to an orange. Each one is unique, different and I for one want to celebrate their INEQUALITIES!
I think the significance of the day lies in the fact that women have been for thousands of years looked down upon as some "things" inferior to men. Many a times we don't even realize but we are being biased towards men and unconsciously ignoring women's contribution.
It's true that women and men have their inequalities.. and we should respect both the genders.. but we must not forget that both are 'humans' first (and same species). Treating one gender as being superior to the other is incorrect in my humble opinion. But as we have seen, observed and sometimes experienced prejudicial attitude against women for centuries in a row.. the 21st century calls for some special days and occasions when we all need to realize the importance of women and reflect upon the issue. 😊
