Why is QAZI a phenomenon?
by ticks
I think people are comparing their favorites to QAZI, since they cannot understand a phenomenon like QAZI. What it takes to be a QAZI!!
Sometimes, it is not just talent which makes a person successful or loved by the masses. You need to have something a halo which connects you to the masses that is what QAZI has! Singing is one aspect of it, but great performers and artists need not need to just have singing talents. QAZI has an unique voice which is untrained, but today he is improving by leaps and bounds and has natural talent. Perhaps who knows he may be another KL Saigal or Kishore Kumar, Who would act, sing and dance to their own songs? Who knows! That is his aim though! His voice connects to the masses (at least it does it for me to a certain level, I cringe at some of the notes he sings, but ignore them, which I would NOT for some other singer because his performance as a whole is so complete and awesome, I have sung on stage, so I know how difficult it is perform, dance and sing at the same time and also keep the audience glued.. He can sell his soul to entertain his audience (perhaps he is like ShahRukh Khan in this manner). That is what connects him which is a GOD's gift which he got.
I was watching the DYND episode, after the whole episode he sang "Meri Mehbooba", and that performance stole the show! His "Yeh Pal" rendition with out any background music sounded great! His voice is meant for recodings! He has shown us Emotional intelligence is also what matters when one needs to be a WINNER. In this fast consumer driven world (did i hear somewhere, the world is FLAT now?), where HITs and FLOPs matter, he has perhaps shown that we can also have a Singing-Star driven music industry. Even for film music, let us accept the fact that Music albums sells not because it is a Ismail Darbar music sung by a Sonu Nigum..But because it is a ShahRukh Khan Film. That is the bitter truth, perhaps QAZI will make that change, and people will buy music and listen to it because it is a Singing-Superstar QAZI's album.. Gone are the days, when average people would wait and savor music and buy labels.
Today, FM and TV would play them, and the paying public would watch those videos and buy albums.
That is just another side of film and indi-pop industry. I may be wrong, but i have a feeling QAZI is here to stay, and there is enough room for him up there ( on a lighter note...we are a country of 1 billion people so we can accommodate more artists!! ). To each is his own!! QAZI is QAZI!!
No PANNA LAL or HEERA LAL can be a QAZI..QAZI lead the way and showed the music world that there is more to music than just the sound waves (Simple harmonic motion), the saat surs, aalaaps, taals and the technicalities of voice.. There is something called performance as a whole also...
If an off tune Abhishekh Bachchan can sing his way to the Chart Top in 2005, why cant QAZI be the next singing sensation?? What the heck he already is! BTW, his new album is a SUPERHIT! And to top it all he is an eye-candy too, which helps and is an add on!
PS: I am not a QAZI fan, but am trying to analyze what makes QAZI a winner.
It is my personal opinion no one has to agree.. NO OFFENSE!
A Wonder Called QAZI!!!"
by Bilu
Qazi Touqer has bowled over every one by his talent , his style, his personality and his whole charming persona!! The kind of response he is getting from the Public is proof enough of the fact that how starved people are of something which is genuine! Something which is untouched and natural!, something which is fair and honest! Something which smells of nothing but fragrance of positivity ! This is the reason why QAZI is a hit! QAZI represents the generation which is frank and extrovert and stylish! QAZI represents that son who is out to prove himself to his parents his caliber and authenticity of his own convictions! QAZI represents those singers who are not stereotyped but believe in their natural music talent! QAZI represents those people who are extremely pleasant and and want to give happiness to others ! QAZI has a definite style which was not seen for a long time ! QAZI IS A YOUNG BOY WITH LOT OF POSSIBILITIES WITH RIGHT SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE!! QAZI is an entertainer par excellence!! QAZI is liked by the top most celebrities from singers to entertainers And QAZI is a hero for many and a brave heart for my parents! QAZI is the true spirit of India! Young and developing and ready to take on the world! QAZI can be an ideal brand ambassador for many of the Indian companies!! To sum it all in two Words QAZI ROCKS!!
The importance of being QAZI
by research scholar in Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge
When QAZI Tauqeer was born in Srinagar, in 1986, India was different. Doordarshan was the single channel on television, Kashmir was at relative peace, and we were far from the 'shining' India that was to follow some years later, at least in some privileged places, for some privileged people. In 2005, QAZI Tauqeer, a singer and performer of some ability, is the latest TV celebrity, winner of Sony TV's Fame Gurukul, in an India with no less than 70 TV channels, a steadily increasing ''shine'', and a much bruised, indeed battered, Kashmir.
One could say QAZI has grown up through a period of huge change in independent India. The spread of markets with increasing opportunities for people and a deepening of political democracy are the upsides, while an increasing disillusionment with a sometimes arbitrary and seemingly corrupt state apparatus is the downside, most brutally exposed in Kashmir.
Markets have brought with them not only a huge range of goods, services and TV channels, but also a culture of individuality, opportunity and merit, quite distinct from the more parochial culture of caste, region and religion which ran and, in some places, still runs deep in India, especially in the functioning of institutions of the state. This is no surprise. The guardians of the state are only human. And humans are fallible, which makes the state fallible. It can be exploitative rather than helpful. This is not to argue that the state should not act at all. It should. But it must be a helpful, rather than cruel guardian.
QAZI Tauqeer's success is good news for India and its people: its underlying secularism, quiet egalitarianism and democratic traditions. A Kashmiri Muslim boy from a less than privileged background received no less than 15 million votes from across India, saving him from eviction from the show 10 times and finally perching him on the winners' podium with a lucrative singing contract and a brand new car as bonus. All that mattered to the voters was his ability — not his religion, not his place of birth, not his economic status. And the voters themselves, a staggering 50 million SMS messages received by the show, at last given a chance to elect someone on merit in a transparent fashion. This was quite unlike our general elections, where religion, region, caste, economic power and a lamentable absence of merit dominate the show. Indeed, barriers to entry are so formidable that the best do not even enter the contest. But lest we damn the state completely, its role in helping Taqueer reach where he did is crucial: the introduction of cable television in Kashmir in 1998 gave QAZI and many like him a connect to the world, and opportunities outside.
Could QAZI's success send out some important lessons for India's pressing problems? India has no greater political problem than that of an estranged Kashmir. Perhaps instances like this will help integrate more Kashmiri youth into the mainstream, rather than drive them to the path of violence. Perhaps the people of Kashmir will come around to see that the people of India at large harbor warmth and goodwill for them, whatever the state may stand for. The state on its part, of late, has been trying to be more a force for the good: a free and fair election, the talk of peace and an attempted healing touch, are a start.
The achievements of Tauqeer, as well as others on television, may also show us the way forward in another pressing problem, that of missed economic opportunities. We need a move up the economic ladder as quickly as possible, for as many as possible. We need opportunities, equal and many. We need merit. And we need the state to provide the basic minimum to all: not only food and clothing but also shelter, healthcare and education, so that people are in a position to grasp the opportunities. We need the right mix of state and markets, sadly missing in India over the years, both in statist India and now in liberalized India. The churning must begin now, beginning with institutions of the state, and then, to fine tuning the role of markets in order to maximize benefits.
Lest we forget, well done, QAZI Tauqeer. May you inspire many more to follow your path to hard won success. And well done, people. Keep voting, preferably on merit. Keep yourselves empowered. You will get what you want, somewhere, and then, hopefully, everywhere.
QAZI's Talent
by Ghafoor bhai
Ok-we all know about QAZI's tremendous improvements in singing-Much has been said & written about that. (though some defective pieces still claim he sings crap & there are usual childish behavior & donkey fantasy-talk)
I'll just review his skills in Stage presence & Style.
We are talking about a guy that locked himself up in a room with a mirror & television. The big deal? Well the thing is all of us have some amount of tendency to enhance ourselves(to project our strengths, hide our blemishes)-like walking in certain way, smiling in certain way etc..whether in front of camera or real life(all of us have it).Its called self awareness.
The thing with actors & stars is that they have to be double self aware in front of the camera-They have to behave, walk, talk & look perfectly.
What the mirror does is that as u practice in front of it,you become self-aware in a third person perspective after u have practiced long enough. Which means that, you know so well how u look & how ur actions come out as u do them that it is as if u are looking at urself from someone else's eye-even when the mirror is not there.
QAZI has got that unique ability which very few stars have, like Shahrukh for example. Also if you have watched him in Gala performances-all of which are unique, no one quite appears like him on stage:
He follows the cameras, His positions are perfect, giving perfect shots, His body language says it all.
He seems to have all the ingredients of a star.

Qazi won because he deserved to win.
Qazi won because he carried the fear and love of God within his heart.
Qazi won because he had the support & immense love of millions of people with him.
Qazi won because he sang with honesty and innocence.
Qazi won because he was the proverbial tortoise in the race of rabbits.
Qazi won because he was the only person with a mirror clear conscience and a mind that was never afraid to speak the truth.
Qazi won because he never ever hurt any of the contestants with a sarcastic comment, with a nasty word or with spite.
Qazi won because he did not try and demean & cheapen his fellow contestant by publicy flirting with her & deliberately embarrassing him
Qazi won because he had determination, guts and the will to win.
Qazi won because he was the only one amongst the contestants to have made his faculty proud by going up step-by-step and not being afraid to open himself to learning.
Qazi won because he did not indulge in petty politics, bickering and emotional blackmail.
Qazi won, because NICE GUYS ALWAYS WIN!
THREE CHEERS TO OUR QAZI AND RUPREKHA FOR WINNING THE FAME JODI TITLE! HIP HIP HURRAY...HIP HIP HURRAY...HIP HIP HURRAY!

Fame Gurukul is drawing to a close and a huge cloud of depression is heading towards me.(AND ALL QAZI FANS AND QAZIHATERS TOO.)
So much has been said and reams have been written about how GOOD/how bad QAZI is.To the point that FAme Gurukul II will have a tough act to follow- cause our boy is one in a billion.I hope people who hate QAZI read this and try to give me answers IF they can -
You accuse QAZI of just pretending to be nice - but tell me how could not the mask of niceness fall once - just once in the tremendous pressure he has gone thru?
You say he cant sing for peanuts !Please explain why Arijit could not handle "Bulla ki jana main kaun?" Why did Arpita go so off key in "Nisha"?and practically ends screeching in the higher notes?I love Ruppu but she sounded off key in "OOh lalala" in the practice session. Why does Rex sound terrible when he is not singing a Udit NArayan song?
If the SAREGAMA singers are so great indeed ,why ARE people wasting time watching QAZIon FG.Shouldnt SAREGAMA be the most loved programme? And Now that we are talking about SAREGAMA I saw one bald fellow, supposedly "GREAT SINGER" Struggle with a Kishore Kumar song and give up while HORRIBLE SINGER QAZI sang JAANE JA like a BREEZE.
How could Kunal Ganjawala make Bheege honth tere sound so sleazy and depressing while QAZI made the song sounf young fresh and OH so INNOCENT???
And I want to ask his detractors one Question - WHAT THE HELL??????????? WHY THE HELL CANT QAZI FULFILL HIS DREAM WITHOUT YOU GUYS NIPPING AT HIS HEELS?CAN A PERSON NOT DREAM ANYMORE?IS IT WRONG TO TRY TO VE BETTER THAN YOU ARE?WHEN A YOUNG BOY HAS KEPT HIS INTEGRITY THROUGH SUCH TRYING TIMES SHOULD WE NOT BE APPLAUDING HIM AND ENCOURAGING HIM INSTEAD OF CALLING HIM NAMES???????????
AND PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYWHERE IN FAME GURUKULS ADDS IT WAS MENTIONED THAT ONLY THE MOST HANDSOME/BEAUTIFUL /CLASSICALLY TRAINED SHOULD APPLY?>
(Not that QAZI is not GORGEOUS)
ONE QUESTION FOR SONU NIGAM TOO... How the heck could you call Ruprekha a far superior singer than Our QAZI?How can u compare apples to oranges???
QAZI fans please go on supporting him, especially now that all his detractors are back in the Gurukul!Right from Shamit who hated him virulously to Arpita, and all the others who kept saying QAZI is no good.WE AHVE TO TAKE HIM TO VICTORY.OUR QAZI SHOULD BE CROWNED IN FRONT OF ALL THOSE WHO CALLED HIM,UGLY,BESURA,SMELLY ANd WHAT NOT,Or else we will have to remove the WORDS "POETIC JUSTICE "from our Tomes.
FOREVER QAZI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Qazi - Champion of the Underdogs!
by mistletoe
I have been watching Fame Gurukul for the past many weeks now, and step by step, have become an avid watcher and am completely hooked on to it! The Chief reason being Qazi Touqueer!
It is definitely not his original voice that attracts me to vote for him, it is not his childish yet cute behaviour that compels me to cheer for him, it is not his heart-warming humility that beckons me to force my friends to vote for him. These are just facets of his personality....what really makes Qazi a winner is the fact that he was never supposed to win.....he was expected to fail from the beginning......yet, he has now emerged as the most obvious one to become one of the Fame Jodi!
Qazi is the typical underdog....he comes from a strife ridden state where militancy and bloodshed has ruled the roost for the past 50 years......we hear the name of Jammu & Kashmir only in relation to terrorist attacks or Army encounters. He comes from a educated, middle-cast family, much like any of our's, with a loving Father, a caring Mother and a protective brother. Qazi, in his own words, as always been a faliure, he couldn't succed in his studies, he was always involved in ''Dram & Dance'', always fooling around with his friends, always upto some pranks, irresponsible and carefree......in short very much like any one of us....or like any one we know! There is a great sense of connection and bonding with Qazi, which has not been with any other contestant! And Qazi has never made any pretense of being what he is not.....he has never hidden his true self, unlike say someone like Shamit or Arpita, whom I found terribly hypocritical or someone like Rex and Arijit, who were busy playing politics. Qazi came across as honest, simple & kind-hearted which I am sure he truly is!
In Gurukul, Qazi has always been ostracized, made-fun of, never taken seriously and never could make a single good friend, inspite of trying his level best. It was clear from the beginning that the contestants could not stand him &were clearly jealous of him (except RR and Sandeep), the faculty despised him (yes, even Ila Mam, who can't tire of singing his praises nowadays!) and the Judges never took him seriously enough. But the Audience loved him from day one.....they saw in Qazi, humility, affection, sincerity and the will do succeed.....they saw in him a spirit which refused to bow down before any obstacle.
Just look at the pattern....Shamit used to insult Qazi....he went out, Arijit tried to play politics, he went out......Arpita is clearly so jealous of him, everyone from the audience (a pathetic 3.5 lakhs votes as compared to 44 lakh votes for Qazi) to the Judges (Shankar rightly called her a fool!) mocked her........Rex, who was always under the impression that Qazi was in only because of audience vote, had it from the judges when they voted Qazi in and that too at a stage, when the competition is at its fiercest and only the best are left!
It just goes to show, that there might be thousands of good singers in the world, but there will be just one amongst them who will have a good heart as well! FG might be overflowing with talented singers, but the one who truly deserves to win is the one who has tried the best and that is only Qazi!
In my opinion, Qazi has shut all his detractors once and for all, in his incredible Gala performance! His voice quality, modulation, expression's, performance was just FLAWLESS! No one could come near him that day! I just pray to God, that may he keep working hard, may he continue to be the excellent human being he is and success will always be his!
IMPORTANT GOOD NEWS FOR ALL QAZI CRITICS
by amnu
I have been an initially reluctant /later devoted to point of sending my husband crazy viewer of FAME GURUKUL.The first time we saw QAZI when we were surfing thru channels and stopped at sony to see a young boy being voted back into the competition.I dont remeber who was with him.But the reason for not moving on from the channel was becuse my daughter looked at QAZI and said"Mom,look SIUPPANDI!" Suppandi for those who dont know him is a crazy cartoon character from the childrens cartoon digest "TINKLE".We all giggled but could not move on as we needed to know Suppandi's fate.Somehow we were unexpalinably happy when he won.The next day we were back. That day QAZI sang "Main aisa kyoon hoon" and was with no delay shooed into the danger zone.He promised to the Judges that he would cry no more,he would be a chattan someday. QAZI is not Suppandi anymore. Our love for him makes him one of the best looking faces one can come across on Indian TV /Cinema screen. As for his singing which has been TORN APART INTO SHREDS no matter how ell he sings - the first thing I said to my daughters when I heard it was - atlast - A MIRACLE HAS HAPPENED - AN ORIGINAL VOICE IS BORN.No I am not TANSEN ,OR ANY Pandit anybody,I have no musical degree or training and cannot even sing OYE BUBBLY.BUT I have for since childhood lived on music and songs sung by RAFI,KISHORE,LATA AND ASHA.I know every word every pause every sur and every taal of these thousands of magical songs which have been woven into our mediocre movies, making them UNFORGETTABLE.I AM SPEAKING FOR THE GENERAL INDIAN PUBLIC - QAZI SING!!!!!!!!His wonderfully fresh soft silken voice can ,GIVEN A CHANCE,weave the same magic that was lost when the GOLDEN THREE passed on to greener pastures.WE WILL BE THE LOSERS IF WE LET THE BOY GO.I hope I do not offend the great maestroes of the Indian Music fraternity, otor the screeching banshees at FG,or the passably good voices (GOOD VOICES WHICH ALWAYS GIVE YOU THE FEELING YOU HAVE HEARD THIS VOICE SOMEWHERE),or those who shamelessly mimic successful singers and KEEP PROCLAIMING - MAINE TO ACHA GAYA <PAR PHIR BHI DANGER ZONE MAIN HOON!AUR PUBLIC TO SIRF QAZI KI SURAT DEKH KAR HI USE VOTE KARTE HAIN.
So HERES TO THE GREAT INDIAN PUBLIC WHO SAW GREATNESS IN THIS YOUNG LAD FROM KASHMIR<WHO SAW THE TRUTH IN HIS EYES AND THE SILKEN MAGIC IN HIS VOICE.To the others ...ab kya kahoon?
"Qazi is super star" -Mani
by cool_dude
What really makes different QAZI from other contestants? All other contestants are singers and " QAZI is a super star".No matter how much they try to be like QAZI,they can't achieve fame and respect which QAZI has gathered from the public.I wonder if any1 knows about business world.Lets suppose QAZI and Shammit are both fame gurukul jori. Now u tell me despite shammit being a good singer, who is going to buy shammit cd? I wud nvr buy shammit cd for wht he has done to kirti. Many ppl just luved kirti and he gained more symphathy frm ppl when he was out of gurukul. In music, singing is nt enugh to make u famous. What is really imp is that how much respect u gain in the eyes of evry1.evry1 in the public will nvr vote for shammit nor buy his cds in future.
There maybe thousand examples of singers who are exceptionally good singers but they may not have gained success and popularity as they cud have.
We are not just luking for singers here.we are luking for ppl who can have fame. That's why its name is "fame gurukul".Look at most successful ppl in the world, they are not just successful ppl but they are ppl with good hearts.Look at shahruk khan.Nobody liked his face when he came to film industry, but he proved evry1 wrong by his acting. Not only that,he is person who has great heart too.
Summing up, QAZI has wht it takes to be a super star.I believe in his abilities. If he keep on working hard, days are not vry far wen hes gonna b rock star in evrythin he does.be it acting singing or anythin he does.My sincere wishes are with u QAZI.Just prove evry1 wrong.U will rock man. -Mani from Dubai
QAZI-the true Indian
By LOVLEEN_INDIA
I always thought I am different from the rest, I always thought I could understand people better than others. But hey! I just found how wrong I was....
I realised,What I feel about the Gurukul contestants, is same for almost everyone...
ARPITA- To think of it, she is perfect.. looks good, sings good, performs well and is very dedicated, focus and hard-working; but still all of us dislike her. Maybe because she is insecure, cribs too much, maybe a little too selfish. She came in our bad books for voting out ARIJIT and We started hating her because of her anti-qazi propagandas.
REX- WE loved him, maybe if not more but almost as much as Qazi, we all were sad when he was voted out and we all were in tears when he came back again. We had a soft corner for him..." he learnt to smile because he had faced so many hardships" We all know REX's mom, sisters and all. He was like a part of family. But then he started scheming with Arpita, Voted out Arijit, reacted very badly to Arijits allegations, His 'RUPU' drama was cute for a while.. but it went overboard and then he turned anti-qazi. Well now he is almost pleading and maybe emotionally blackmailing us to vote him back. We are not liking his new avataar... but still all of us are confused, can we really hate REX.. apna REX
ROOPREKHA:Nobody realy liked her, she was the socalled 'nakchadi' , her bad hindi made her look like one insensitive, cold and rude monster. Mr javed favouring RR and RR becoming a top-students was always taken with a pinch of Salt. She came into focus because of REX and we all thought... why does REX likes her, maybe her blushing, her simplicity and her inability to react in a better way, touched her hearts somehow. Rooprekha is damn good singer, had better voice... but we realised it only after we started disliking arpita. But RR touched our hearts by voting for both REX and Arpita, maybe we wouldn't have considered it a big deal if.. Javedji wont have pointed it out. RR's crying touched our souls and all of a sudden she became a deserving candidate. We like her because she has a heart of gold.
QAZI- well, He has been discussed again and agin and I am an ardent supporter, Its wrong to say that he is not a talented singer, he is just a 'not' trained singer... with proper training he will be the best. But there is something about QAZI which touches something deep down inside, we can relate to him, it is something beyond his looks.... In one word I can define it as his INDIANness.
He is a manifestation of our beliefs, our philosophies, our culture. There is something special about people in the whole Indian subcontinenet ( I would like to include pakistan and bangladesh too, as they also have the same values, and I was very happy to read the messages of our pakistani friends ) We value honesty, kindness and determination. We have the 'nevar say die' spirit. In times of adversities, instead of loosing hope, we find new strength to move on and on. We respect our enemies and believe in fair dealings. We have faith in ourselves and our god. It is beyond us to loose our self respect, our modesty. Maybe in todays world we have forgotten our true nature, but it is still there in our sub conciousness, our hearts. Maybe we dont behave like this in our day to day life, but... we still respect and appreciate others who have these qualities.
I think it is wrong to say that we indians ( & pakistanis ) like to promote a loosing 'cause' or we are 'Emotional Fools' or we dont know how to judge talents.
I think we just listen to our hearts and our hearts still have that indianness....
I think, my message is already too long.... but I must add one more thing.
In Indian Idol we found that indianness in 'Ravinder Ravi'-the painter guy... but he was voted out because he didnt have the courage to move on.. he count take the evryday crisizing... and he was only too glad to go away... But QAZI, he is a miracle boy.... Inspite of all criticisms he Survived.... and that why he is A WINNER.
I think our producers copy the format of American reality shows and expect similar results and when this doesn't happen they behave angrily and think we "the Janta" are unpredictable. In reality, Our values are more deep routed than the american counterparts. They are materilistic... We are sentimental. We have and will always vote with our hearts. We vote for survivors, people who are trying to fight back, people who are moving against the tide, people who are strong, people who are defying the usual norms..... and yet doing it with a SMILE. If U guys see SA RE GA MA, why do we like himesh reshamiya... even though he has lost the most...
WEll, I think all Indians think the way I think.
QAZI is in
RR should be in... she has a golden heart
REX we all are confused, we want him in only if we get convinced he ias the same innocent REX. That reminds him we all love to blame Poor Arpita for the changed REX
ARPITA- She is the ideal and the most perfect candidate according to the producres. She would have been the No 1, if only americans were voting. Sorry Arpita.... this is India. Everything takes a back seat when Indianness where indianness is concerned.
In India U R nothing if U can't becaome a good human being.... maybe one day U will realise it......
Why Qazi is winning public votes?
by rumi
QAZI is going on winning public votes and breaking his own records. on the other hand some really talented singers are going out of the competition. there are mixed reactions in this respect. some are finding it very sad and some are liking it as they like QAZI.
i was thinking why such thing is happening? what is the reason behind QAZI's phenomenal success? Acoording to me they are as follows:
1. QAZI comes from Kashmir and people are very very sypathetic towards him . they are like, look, this boy came from Kashmir and if he wins the problem of kashmir will be partially solved, as people of Kashmir will start loving people of other states.
2. QAZI has something special in him. i am watching him throughout this competition . he is a great performer and most importantly whatever he performs, is never a show off. everything comes straight from his heart. he is a born performer. he is very honest and that honesty can be seen in his eyes. in this way, inspite of not being a very good singer, he touches the hearts of people.this is realy a rare quality.
3. people in Gurukul are not at all sympathetic towards him. in one episode Arpita clearly said she would not vote for QAZI if he does not win through public vote. this is making people of India more sypathetic to this man who is standing alone in that group. the more these students behave badly with him, the more he will get public votes. one thing is for sure. even if he does not win and does not become one of the fame jodi, he will surely be the most popular star among all the fame gurukul students
QAZI & our emotions
by Meeth
QAZI was the winner, we all knew that right from day one. The choice was unanimous. Nobody could stand-up against him. He was far far far ahead of all of them. Nobody from FG acknowleged that, or acknowledgd but did'nt accept.
He had the privilege to choose his jodi, but yet remained so modest.
We loved him, and each time anyone offended/criticized him, we cried!!! We defended him. We appreciated him and every little thing that he said or did. We saw him grow as a singer. We voted for him!!!!!
We watched fame gurukul only for QAZI!!!!!!
And yesterday was his moment of victory. Our moment of victory.
A loud applause for him
And a loud applause for us
Qazi's Interview ( Before Winning Fame Jodi):
He threatens to tie up his dreadlocks in a pony for that neat, slick look. He desperately wants to tone his body, since he feels he has shrunk after he stopped working out.
He finds his female fan following unbelievable. And all his bak-bak (he says) is genuine and unrehearsed.
Fame Gurukul's most-noticed contestant, Qazi Touqeer, makes no qualms about the fact that, though he wants to be an actor and performer, he applied for the Sony reality show to prove to his family that he was not a good-for-nothing.
"I would never be out of bed before 10 am and didn't even know how to slice an apple. The Gurukul has changed me and my life," says Qazi as tells us his about his journey to Fame…
The mole below my eye
About six months back, I started getting this wart-like growth that resulted in a mole. Initially, I was concerned and wanted to get rid of it. I consulted a doctor but my mother told me to let it be. "Woh tumhare liye lucky hoga."
And it is. My journey to Fame Gurukul began with the mole. The application and the auditions and the final selection, all happened in the last six months. I will never have the mole removed, though I know I want to become an actor — Qazi and the mole; that's another Fame Jodi.
June 2, 2005
Too many things happened on that day. It was the day I celebrated my 20th birthday, the day I was selected to be part of Fame Gurukul. It was the day I landed in Mumbai for the first time. And the day my mole looked bigger! And the day Isaw the sea for the first time. Because of Fame Gurukul, I came to Mumbai; this is going to be my home.
Sufi influence
I stay in Srinagar with my mother, who is a schoolteacher, and my father who is a lawyer. Of late, my father has been greatly influenced by Sufi thoughts. We are constantly having people over; he loves to entertain.
People have an open invitation to our home. I have a younger brother, Tauseef. My favourite chachu, Qazi Rafi (a professional singer) and his family also stay with us. The one big regret I have is that I did not learn music from him — it would have helped me in Fame.
Bachpan se hero
At any event, there are some people who hog the limelight; they are the jaan of the party. I was always one of them. Everyone would call me the hero. Nervousness is something I don't know. I enjoy myself on the stage. In Srinagar, I would always take part in the Saaz aur Awaaz concert, which was dubbed the Saaz aur Qazi concert.
Unaffected by J&K trouble
Bomb blasts, violence, kidnappings… people ask me how we stay in Kashmir? I have never been affected by the happenings there, thank god. I led a normal life and did all the things a youngster does elsewhere. I studied at the SP High School and completed my class 12 from Amar Singh College, Srinagar.
Female attention
Honestly, there is no one special in my life. Last week, we performed at a Ganesh pandal and every time I flicked my hair, the girls would scream. It was the same when I performed at the Malhar festival at St Xavier's. It's not that I am playing up to them. I am enjoying myself on stage and I want them to enjoy too.
No playback singer
Why should I? I always wanted to act and perform live. I can't bear the thought that I put so much into a song and, on screen, it is someone else singing. I will act and do playback only for myself. Or I'd rather do music videos
