its also a fact had it not been for salman ash would have been no where after her initial flop. it was all the publicity of being attached to salman and recommendations from salman which got her many movies. and as far as luck and talent is concerned that is much more in kat than ash considering the time she took to be where she is and the no. of people she had to use, where as ka is there much before her.
I'm sorry but do you remember kat's debut film, Boom(2003)? Well not a lot of people do! She then did loads of south indian movies and had a minor role in a below average Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya! It wasn't until Namaste London(2007) when she got fame and actually become something. Regardless of that, people still question her acting abilities and didn't stop until her recent work in New York!
Now for Ash, her first film released in 1997, a disaster yes, but not as bad as Boom! And in 1998 HDDCS released and she bagged the 1999 filmfare award for best actress! She was an instant star, and for the whole Salman factor, watch the making of Hum dil! Sanjay wanted to work with Ash b/c he thought she fit the character. Besides, she was a well-known model before entering films. When she won the Miss World title, directors were lining up to sign her! So there's no comparison! Bottom line she's a self made star!
