| Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji will flag off the Harmony-supported Senior Citizens' Run, an integral part of the third Mumbai Marathon. Says Abhishek, "I am calling on all of you to join us for the Harmony sponsored five km Senior Citizens' Run.
Wake up, slip into your running gear and be there with us when we sprint along with the spirited silvers hitting the streets of Mumbai on January 15.
No, this is no Bunty and Babli prank or Bluffmaster speaking! This is for real, where Rani and I invite you to bond with the young-at-heart. So catch up with us at the Harmony Run!" Age is in the mind
Tina Ambani says, "It's time for the running shoes to come out once again. On January 15, Harmony will support the five km Senior Citizens' Run as part of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.
We expect a tremendous turnout and moments of magic as seniors claim the streets of Mumbai as their own. They will proudly demonstrate how age can be reduced to a meaningless number." Route
As many as 2,500 entries have been received for the run. This is the second year in succession that Harmony is supporting the Senior Citizens' Run in Mumbai.
The five km Mumbai run will be flagged off at 8.15 am, from Azad Maidan, and wind its way through D N Road, Hutatma Chowk, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Mantralaya, Cama Road and back to Azad Maidan. Facilities
Harmony will make elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth run of the event. A special marquee for senior citizens will be set up at Azad Maidan, and a team of doctors and emergency medical care will be on stand-by to meet any eventuality. A lucky dip will also be held for participants.
A number of celebrities will participate with the senior citizens to cheer them as they take up the challenge.
These include former Olympian and athlete, Milkha Singh, Arjuna awardees Prakash Padukone (badminton), Mervyn Fernandes and M M Somaiya (hockey) and Vandana Rao Carvalho (athletics), apart from Gulshan Grover, and K D Chandran.
Harmony, a social initiative under the Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Trust, espouses the cause of creating a special place for senior citizens in society. The organisation's effort is to help the elderly retain their dignity and sustain their sense of pride and self-esteem. Headed by Tina Ambani, Harmony's vision is to see India's elderly as silver citizens.
Its initiatives are presently focussed on three main areas. One, the Harmony Interactive Centre for Silver Citizens, providing various activities for the elderly under one roof (400 members); Harmony-Celebrate Age, a monthly magazine for the 55-plus age group; and the Harmony interactive portal, www.harmonyindia.org. |
