Rajeev Khandelwal reveals the truth about his love life

Published on : Thursday 16 Jul 2009 8:55 - by, kirti

Rajeev Khandelwal's moment of truth is here. The sexy actor, who made his Bollywood debut with Aamir, has returned to the small screen by hosting Sach Ka Saamna, the India version of the Moment of Truth. And he offered some of his own truth at a press conference to promote the reality show.

"Right now, I am in a relationship and feeling good about it. I plan to get married and settle down," said Khandelwal. He was responding to a question about his ex-girlfriend, actress Aamna Shariff. "I haven't met her (Shariff) in the last two years. She has her own life and I have mine," he said.

Khandelwal refused to reveal who his new flame was.

Rajeev Khandelwal, sach ka saamnaThe actor is excited about the new reality show because nothing like it has been seen on Indian screens so far. "Sach Ka Saamna is the world's simplest show and yet the most difficult. You have to speak nothing but the truth to get through any level. It's an emotional journey and I understand what the contestants go through. I salute the ones who have the courage to admit to the truth in front of their families," he told the media.

The television show involves personal questions to a contestant, which get increasingly intrusive with each level. All the contestant has to do to win is tell the truth. The answers to the questions are matched to those during polygraph tests conducted on the participants before the show.
Sach Ka Saamna debuted on Wednesday on Star Plus. The grand prize is Rs 1 crore.

Asked if he would be willing to test the hot seat himself, Khandelwal said he would have if he wasn't a celebrity. "As a celebrity I wouldn't want to bring my personal life in the public domain. My life is already under scrutiny all the time," he said.

He admitted it's very hard to be truthful all the time. "When any of the contestants answers a tough question I wonder if I would have the way they did. I myself don't know how truthful a person I am," he said.

On the big screen, Khandelwal will be seen next in Peter Gaya Kaam Se, the shooting of which begins in October.

Truth shall set you free and make you richer too
REALITY CHECK.

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 13 The quest for eyeballs and moolah can lead to the oddest strategies: A lie detector test on TV.

Sachchai Ki Agnipariksha, the latest game show on Star Plus, will be a "game-changing show on Indian television," says Mr Anupam Vasudev, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, STAR India.

Participants, who undergo a polygraph test before the show, will be challenged to admit to some uncomfortable truths in front of the audience on television ("wanted to kill my jobless husband," "wished my mom-in law had been my mother").

Dare tell the truth and win a grand sum of Rs 1 crore. The American version of the format show "Moment of Truth" with its shocking disclosures has been on Star World.

Its Greek version was banned. The Hindi version is to be adapted to Indian sensibilities; nevertheless, the "adult reality" which starts from July 15 has been 'safely' slotted at 10-30 p.m.

Star Plus expects to command a premium on advertising for the show that it is marketing heavily. "It's a tough market, but 65 per cent of general entertainment channels (GEC) advertisers consist of FMCG, telecom and insurance players. All three are growing sectors." says Mr Vasudev.

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal will host the show. "Celebrity hosts are not adding value in the same way they used to. And an audience may be tempted to sample a show, it will not consume or stay with the show because of a celebrity," says Mr Vasudev.

Getting tough

STAR India recently saw itself displaced to the third position in weekly ratings by Viacom18's Colors and Zee TV. The channel is also planning to get tough: Shows that do not deliver in three months and whose story lines do not offer any escape will be replaced. "To be the market leader, we have to be leading every slot," says Mr Vasudev, pointing out that as a network, STAR still enjoyed 16.5 per cent of audience share.

Celebspeak: Rajeev Khandelwal back in action
Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, July 12: Television heartthrob Rajeev Khandelwal, who wowed critics and audiences in "Aamir", has a new woman in his life and says he would love to father a baby girl whenever he settles down in life.
"I love families and kids. I would love to be a father and carry my daughter on my shoulders when I go for work. I love baby girls," Rajeev, who is returning to the small screen as a reality show host, told IANS.
Currently he is doing his bit to fulfil his desire by sponsoring a girl child.
"If given a choice, I would love to adopt a girl. But it's a great feeling to even sponsor and support a girl child - it's as good as being a father to her," he said in the interview.
Rajeev, who was earlier in a relationship with actress Aamna Shariff, his co-star on hit daily soap "Kahiin Toh Hoga", admits that he now has someone special in his life.
"Yes, I am seeing someone right now. But she is not from the industry," he said, refusing to reveal her name.
He, however, stressed that marriage was not on the cards for him any time soon.
"I've always intended to settle down with every girl I have dated in my life. But I have left it (marriage) on life. Whenever life pushes me into that direction, I will do it," he said.
Rajeev said he decided to make a comeback on the small screen to host STAR Plus' new reality show "Sach Ka Saamna" because it dealt with emotions of everyday life and presented people who could own up to the truth fearlessly.
"Sach Ka Saamna", the Indian version of internationally known show "Moment of Truth", will reward contestants for their courage to speak the truth about their personal lives on national television. The format and the content of the show is what drew Rajeev to the show.
"I could relate to the questions asked in the show. They are somewhere related to every person's life. That was one reason I agreed to the show besides the fact that it applauds those who can own up to the truth not fearing the consequences," he said.
While the show will air Monday-Friday at 10.30 pm starting July 15, Rajeev has a few Bollywood projects lined up too – British filmmaker John Owen's "Peter Gaya Kaam Se" and Saurabh Narang's "Return Gift".
Rajeev had won the hearts of many women during his first stint on TV and the list only got longer after he entered Bollywood. The actor says he absolutely loves the adulation he receives from his female fans, though it is "difficult to stay grounded" at all times.
"There are lots of women who make me feel special. But I have always known it's not for me but for the characters I play. It's not that I'm a great looker, a great speaker or a great actor - but somehow I'm told that you are liked by the fairer sex and it gives me joy.
"I love it when any woman looks at me, smiles and I know it is genuine. It feels good. Imagine 10 women looking at you when you go in the lift – it becomes very difficult for me to stay grounded in such situations," Rajeev said.
In fact his fans have given him so much love by way of gifts that the actor didn't have to buy a single object to decorate his living room.
"My house is loaded. My living room has been done up by my fans. It's like an Archies Gallery – full of teddy bears, souvenirs and statues of gods. Though I don't believe in god, my house has about 85 statues of Ganesha. People have been extremely kind to me," he said.
