Laughter Challenge now returns after a break...

Second season of the show to be launched with a bang

Do you want to be the next Sunil Pal? The auditions have begun

Sapana Patil

The Great Indian Laughter Challenge was definitely one of the high points of Indian television in 2005. This year, there is more in store to look out for as the channel is launching its search for the new Hasi Ka Badshah.

The contest that made people fall off their chairs, roaring with laughter, is inviting people who think that they have it in them to have people in splits and take away the title.

The search for the badshah begins tomorrow (January 4, see box). 60 contestants among all the participants will be short listed, who will then compete for the title. They will have to go through a series of rounds, which will be shot and telecast in a series of 18 episodes.

Ajay Vidyasagar, senior vice president, marketing and communication for Star says, "Essentially, the format will remain the same because comedy is the charm of the show and we don't want to change that. But we will introduce new elements on the show, like special segments that will trigger and sharpen the humour."

He also adds, "It is a little early to share the details because then there will be copy-cat shows in the market. But we may have something called the laugh-o-meter that will try and evaluate humour. We had the best portfolio of contestants last time. We were very happy to have contestants from all walks of life participating in the show. Our show aims at showcasing the best of talent. Let's see how the current batch of contestants will be."

The show will be hosted by Shekhar Suman and Navjot Singh Sidhu who will be assisted by Parizaad Kolah. This show is slated to go on air in February 2006.

Second chance to fame

Watch STAR One's sequel to your favourite show - The Great Indian Laughter Challenge II, Laughter Ka Doosra Dose on Wednesday, 4 January 2005 at 7 PM.

Laughter is prescribed as the best medicine across the world, and the STAR One wants all its fans to feel healthy and to that end, the channel brings in the nation's favourite show's sequel - The Great Indian Laughter Challenge II, Laughter Ka Doosra Dose today at 7 PM.

Hollywood's greatest comedian, Woody Allen once said 'I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose.' You have giggled your way through with the first batch of participants, now the second batch are all set to make you roll over the floor.

The debut show had Sunil Pal as the winner among the six competitors who didn't give it away easily. It was considered a tough decision to choose one best out of the six who were just as good.

The other finalists of the The Great Indian Comedy Challenge:

1. Raju Shrivastav
2. Ahsaan Qureshi
3. Bhagwant Mann
4. Parag Kansara
5. Navin Prabhakar

The show's essence remains the same, the judges remain to be the good ol' comedy badshahs - Shekar Suman and Navjot Singh Siddu, the host being Parizaad Kolah.

What's new about the show is that, there will be a special celebrity guest who will join the laughter riot that will be caused by a new lot of fresh faces aspiring to be the laughter specialists.

Lets make our days more worthwhile this new year, as the famous English poet, E E Cummings put it, "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter."

Moreover, it has become more convenient for you to be part of the show, as now, you can send in your entry video through indya.com. So hurry record a two-minute original gig and send it across for the masters to choose you to be part of the show that is a graduation call for comic talent in the country. Stand under the spotlight and perform to a discerning panel of judges and a houseful audience.

And all of you, who decide to sit back and watch television back home, get set to truly entertain yourself and be richer as someone once said 'A man isn't poor if he can still laugh.'
