Yes. I am a teacher in Canada. Last year, I had a boy in my Grade 5 class who was high functioned autistic kid. Super artist. He was very cute like Antara. But he had a great difficulty interacting with his peers. He had lack of social skills. He had a great difficulty of seeing in your eyes. From grade 1-4 he had a teacher assistant (TA's help teachers who has students with some exceptionaties). But not in my class I enjoyed working that kid and leanrt alot from him. His mom is Irish lady and dad is Philipino.
This year I am teaching Primary Behaviour class ( grade 1-3) where I have only 6 students with 2 teacher assistants. 2 of my students are autistics. In Canada the education system provides all the facilities to the students who need special care. Not like India where you yell at the students in front of everyone, like Mrs. M was doning at Antara. Ifelt soooo sorry for her and started to cry. We are copying everything of everybody but when we'll learn how to treat our students with some respect. Yes I have... More than one... My second cousin has the severe form of autism - such a cute boy, one of the cutest kids I have ever seen and then he was diagnosed with autism.. I havent seen him for a long time now, but I know he attends the special school for his kind of kids... I have never heard him utter a word!! He would never look at you and only responds when his mom calls him...

Then I have others in my family with the mild form of autism - they talk, they look at you, they read and write very well, they tell stories, at times they say jokes and do not realize they are funny and at times they say things and laugh when it isnt really funny... The one thing about them is that despite all the behavioural issues they have, they have very high IQ - no one can beat them in their Math and Science ability, and they are very inventive too and artistic to an extent... So there are both positiives and negatives to it...

Yes, my friends son is autistic. He is lucky as he lives in the UK and his condition is recognised. He has just finished his personal training course.
