First, if there's something really good in this film then it is the cinematography. I am a fan of Delbonell and I never expected him to be part of the franchise. But his work was pretty amazing. Definitely best cinematography of the series. Hands down.
The acting was really good too. Gambon was shockingly great in his scenes. Jim Broadbent was extremely funny but the emotional scene in the end where he gives the memory was tear-jerking. I also loved Alan Rickman's performance-as always. He was quiet and silent in most of his scenes and he had this cold and mysterious look...which was great. His climactic scene was extremely well-done.
The kids were all good. especially Radcliffe and Felton. Felton was a pleasant surprise he plays really well. He caught my attention from the beginning (but he really shines in the second part of the film).Watson had a really emotional scene during Christmas holidays and she was really good. Loved it.
Anyway about the film now!
It begins with a short scene where Harry is in the Ministry and they take pictures of him. The music was quite sad and ominous and the transition to the title was pretty chilling. I don't know it made me feel great.
The clouds become the cloudy environment of London. We see a modern office and people looking outside. The Dark Mark appears (it's a bunch of grey clouds creating the 'skull') and Death Eaters fly over the town. They attack Diagon Alley and a Bridge. The beginning was really powerful yet short. But we had to get that sense of a sudden attack I suppose. I didn't expect this though I had seen the Bridge collapsing in the trailers but...that made a cool opening.
Dumbledore takes Harry from a train station and they go to Slughorn's. Actually I didn't care that the Dursleys were cut. Broadbent was funny as hell and his 'armchair' scene will make you laugh so much! Anyway things happen very quickly and Harry is suddenly at the Burrow. There's a brief scene with Ginny at the living room-kitchen place where she hugs him (first romantic scene with them preparing the things I guess). Then the trio is atop the Burrow where there's a small balcony outside (nice design you'll see). I loved this new part of the Burrow. Anyway, I guess I had seen only 10-12 minutes of the film till that point.
Then we had an awesome scene. Bellatrix and Narcissa walking down a dark street heading to Snape's place. It was foggy and rainy so it was a rather gritty environment. I won't say anything about the Vow scene because it's really great. Helen McCrory was surprisingly good! You'll see though!
Oh and they showed Wormtail for a minute or so!
Then we are back to Diagon Alley where they walk down the street and see the place being quite empty. Ollivanders shop was destroyed. Twins shop was colorful and fun. But it was a brief scene around 2-3 minutes tops. I loved a detail with some Love Potions actually. You'll love this (and it has to do with Ginny too!).Anyway the Trio goes to Knockturn Alley because they're following Draco. They don't hear what's going on but Hermione gets to see things a little bit clearer. That was a pretty dark moment but it was short.
So it's been merely 20-25 minutes but we've seen all we needed. Then it's the Hogwarts Express scene and a nice and dark moment with Draco. They've put big dining cars for all students. That was a really nice detail! Luna 'saves' Harry and they return to Hogwarts. i didn't care about Tonks. She has a nice scene in the middle of the film at the Burrow anyway. Luna was really funny everytime she was on screen.
