Do you believe that choice of materials can define people and are we racist against people with a weird choice of dressing? Take for example the Gothic, the emos, punks, item girls or housewives lolz...the type of clothes they wear conveys the type of message they want to carry , take the following for example
Gothic - Rebellious
Emos - Depression
Punks - seeking attention
Item girls - sex symbols
Housewives - Family material
Do you believe clothes can define the character of a person ? and are you friends with people who have the same dressing style as yourself or do you show racism against differently dressed people? Basically do you think clothing is a way of expressing yourself/defining yourself?..or do you believe their are more important things that defines/expresses a person not the type clothes they are wearing? if so what?
Cheers muchy ! 😆

interesting topic ROA 👍🏼

i knew the types of clothes you wear create a certain impression whether it be good or bad. but i never thought that personal choices such as friendship for example can be decided by such means like that of the types of clothes they wear or even shaping my preception of what people are like by the clothes they wear.

Okay say for example you are the type who is fully dressed etc, do you think hanging around with people that are half naked would spoil your image? like if you hang around with goths, others might tag you as goths cos you are friends with that person? i mean we only make friends with people who are more or less on the same wavelength as us..you would never see a Gothic person hanging around with a formally dressed business type of person eh?
Hence, does clothes not decide personal choice such as freindship?
Also by shaping your preception, take for example Rakhi Sawant since her swaymar is going on....do you think the type of image she carries shapes a house wife type of material? would you rather not marry someone who is more decently dressed? or does clothes not matter at all?
Edit to bold.

yep ur rite, but in some cases that perception can be broken, i mean whose to say for example that you took the oppurtunity to sit down with with someone like rakhi u mite find that deep down she is a nice person and that clothes don't matter, but whether it be on a consious or sub-consious level we do judge people by there appearance and it affects the choices we make it shouldn't be like that but it is, its not the outwordly appearence that matters its whats inside

Nature and personality is one thing, but character is different? I personally like Rakhi she is a child at heart, i love her nature and personality but the type of character she carries? a sex symbol? i suppose its her profession to do that in her music videos anyways, forget rakhi and back to the topic... we are not talking about beauty here, inner beauty matters but people are blinded by the outer beauty to care much...we are talking about clothes...if you dress up as an emo does that not pass the message that your depressed with life? punk that you just love attention..how would you argue that? would their apperance not suggest the type of person they are? clothes are means of identifiying people? Agreed that a very good hearted person can be badly dressed but could that badly dressed person be traditional and cultured? Do they carry the right morals and the true indian values? if they did, wouldnt they care to dress that way?
If you saw an Asian wearing a bikini wouldnt your reaction be different as opposed to a white girl wearing the exact same clothes....and why is that? its cos its not in our culture for girls to wear bikinis openly infront of others eh? we accuse them of being very liberal and open minded, whilst in gora, this kinda clothing is perfectly acceptable and is considered normal eh?

Clothes do carry a lot of meaning and importance. The type of clothes people wear reflects their attitudes, personality, intellect, political inclination, socio-economic background etc.

I have a very distinctive style, and pretty innocent face - so I can safely be with goths, preppies, gangbangers and the likes and not have people make any assumptions about me. I usually have an unassuming nerdy desi look - but my speciality is going from desi to dash in thirty seconds.

Usually I do not judge people by appearances, but when men wear more bling than gujju aunties showing off at a wedding - thats where I draw the line. Oh also at the height people wear their undies, superman style is not super cool.

I think clothes do play a significant role in creating impressions. Obviously, not everyone has the time to learn more about you "the person", and therefore many are quick to judge based on outer appearance. Perhaps it is an inherent flaw in human nature, but regardless, we cannot deny that we are all quick to make judgments.

Anyways, I think we all are more comfortable with people who are more like us, who share the same values, who think the same way. Therefore, those who think the same are more likely to behave in a similar manner, and more likely to then, perhaps also dress similarly. It has nothing to do with being "racist", its more of human perceptions.

Also, this does not mean that someone who perhaps dresses like a Goth, wears all black, can't be friends with someone who wears sundresses. But it is more likely that you will find people who dress similarly together. I think we as humans, like to travel in packs, in cliques, and hang out with people who believe the same way we do, who act the same way we do, perhaps its that we safer with people we connect with, or maybe its a means of identity, or rather that we feel that what we are doing is "right" if others are doing it as well.
