"Giving Kareenas character much need sympathy and reasoning for her behaviour"
- And yes, let's conveniently forget the damned fact that it was Akshay's character who bet with his idiotic friend that he was going to "play" with her and dump her. Of course, Kareena's allegedly "bitchy" behaviour needs justification but Akshay's salacious, objectifying ways don't because after all, his heart is <insert fangirl squealing> MADE OF GOLD. For crying out loud, right before Akshay's character spent the night snogging Simrita and had his supposed change of heart, he was "doing stunts" with Denise. Yeah, heart of gold.
I immensely disliked KI. It was a hollow film, which projected sexism and racism as "comedy". Slapping women, and flinging them off in bouts of fury is supposed to be hilarious; Kareena apologizing for making her own decisions in the climax and saying that the lewd Akshay is the source of happiness in her life enrages me to the point of speechlessness - because clearly, as this movie preaches, women make worse decisions than men. Worse of all, she admits that she is "bitch" [Note: A female specific pejorative] as Akshay so clearly reiterates numerous times whereas he isn't the supposed "dog" she thinks he is since his friend extolls his "virtues": Viraj didn't "exploit her" when she was drunk so she's supposed to make nothing of the fact that she woke up practically naked. Furthermore, people of color are treated so poorly; the black female cop is the desperate witch who makes the best of her job and gropes Akshay while all the white girls are hot, sexy "chicks".
KI technically isn't a hit quite yet; the makers would like you to believe it is, but if BoxOfficeIndia is to be believed, the film grossed about 24.5 crore rupees. However, the production cost of KI is more than double the amount - 60 crore rupees [unsure if this is an accurate amount]. I'm sincerely hoping that this movie doesn't do any better in order to dissuade more movies like this and to give Akshay and Kareena (but mostly Akshay) a wake-up call.
Why I think KI is doing well:
- Kareena and Amrita's skin show
- Overhyped Hollywood cameos
- Akshay and Kareena's fan base

You're dead on! I thought her charcter was so annoying! But the number one reason is the Strike, that's why I watched!
