Bollywood marriages have often been wrapped in glamour, secrecy and carefully crafted images. But actor Prateik, Smita Patil, and his wife, Priya Banerjee, are clearly not interested in playing along. In a series of recent interviews, the couple has spoken candidly about their views on relationships in the film industry, calling out what they believe is a deep-rooted culture of hypocrisy and emotional dishonesty.
Their comments have sparked online conversations, especially after many read them as an indirect response to a controversial remark on the talk show Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol.
“On the Inside, We Know the Truth”
In a chat with Team Varinder Chawla, Priya Banerjee did not mince her words. She claimed that a large number of Bollywood marriages are performative rather than real, adding that her perspective comes from being part of the industry itself. Prateik echoed her sentiment, bluntly stating that this lack of authenticity is often visible to anyone paying attention.
The actor also criticised how infidelity is frequently brushed aside in elite circles. According to him, cheating and juggling multiple partners should not be normalised or glamorised. He stressed that commitment is not outdated, and having “a wife and a girlfriend” should not be treated as a badge of coolness.
The ‘Raat Gayi Baat Gayi’ Remark and the Indirect Dig
Without naming names, Prateik referenced a comment made on a popular show where married people casually dismissed infidelity with the phrase “raat gayi baat gayi.” The line was widely discussed after Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol featured Janhvi Kapoor and Karan Johar, where Twinkle Khanna stated that physical infidelity is not necessarily a deal-breaker.
While Twinkle, Kajol and Karan appeared to agree, Janhvi openly disagreed, saying it would end a relationship for her. Twinkle later brushed off Janhvi’s stance, implying that age and experience change such views. Prateik’s remarks were seen by many as a clear rejection of this mindset.
Their Wedding, Silence, and the Truth Yet to Come
Prateik and Priya tied the knot on February 14 last year in an intimate ceremony. The wedding made headlines not just for its simplicity, but also because Prateik’s father, actor-politician Raj Babbar, was not invited. Addressing the criticism around their marriage in a separate interview, the couple maintained a calm stance.
While Priya chose to stay unaffected by public judgment, Prateik hinted that the reality is far more complex than social media narratives suggest. He revealed that some within the industry know the truth, while others do not, and added that he may share his side in detail someday, possibly through a book, film or interview.
Prateik Smita Patil and Priya Banerjee have spoken openly about the reality of Bollywood marriages, calling many of them performative and lacking honesty. In recent interviews, they criticised the casual normalisation of infidelity and indirectly took a dig at the “raat gayi baat gayi” mindset discussed on Two Much with Twinkle and Kajol, while also addressing curiosity around their private wedding.
