Hey that is so true. I am so against this child thing. They should have aborted it and started her life from a fresh new start like every other normal kid. Shes proud of what she did, I just wish for once she regreted it.

Sugna had premarital sex and got pregnant .. would the boy in your story still like the girl? i doubt.. really really doubt. Sugna not only did something wrong she is proud of it.. she is being firm in her refusal to Shyam.. where was this firm refusal while making out with Pratap. This Sugna-shyam story is totally unrealistic, very hurried and just not emotionally-tugging for such an important subject. right now I could care a damn what happens to Sugna.. infact though its the right thing to do i feel sorry for shyam's parents too. Sugna and Shyam shud not get to live in that haveli.. they shud get out, slog their butts off and face the consequences of their actions on their own. A girl like Champa was going to get beaten to death and Sugna is getting married to a handsome hunk.. hypocrisy at its best in BV.

perhaps because unlike champa's parents...suguna's parents were rich enuf to hide her in a kothri till they cud send her away. i shudder to think what happenned to champa.
as for comparision with one2one's story i guess in the same situation dadisa wud have never consented to getting suguna remarried if the baby cud he legitimately be given pratap's name.

She was married 2 pratap.. So premarital is the wrong word here.

Gentics clearly tells us that reproduction is the joint effort of males and females. But the burden is always borne by the female alone! If u want perspective on that go read A Thousand Splendid Suns. But if u r a misogynist don't bother.
Shyam has a degree (his Dad said so). Going frm his irrigation canal blue print, it's probably engineering or such. So he has 2 be around 21. That's young but not 2 young.
I don't know about the 'realism' of a Sugna-Shyam type marriage. But I know this that Shyam is educated and he has a thirst for reform (remember the jalebi buying epi? Shyam told some guy that he didn't take up a job in town cos he wanted 2 use his education 2 improve the village.) I come frm a small town where adoption is still taboo yet I've sworn infront of god that I will adopt a child no matter who opposed me. Because I believe that if I take the initiative it might give others the courage 2. If I were a guy I would marry a girl like Sugna. I wouldn't hesitate. I'd fight 4 it. I fight 2 interact with the bai in my small town where castesism still pravails. I'm opposed, scolded but I sill do it. So 2 a person like me a guy like Shyam isn't non-existant.
On a side note. I've made a very amusing discovery. Guys like girlz with attitude. Atleast the non-backward, independent thinking variety.

very well said! though not entirely, but it is Sugna's mistake as well. And even if we give one chance, for such an attitude she doesnt deserve such great results. Shyam, though looks like god to do such a thing that too for a girl who is so rude, is being utterly unfair to his own parents. I have a strong feeling that his parents dont know anything abt the pregnancy. no parents in the modern could accept that. Unrealistic, utterly unrealistic and unfair track.
No doubt what happened to Sugna wasn't fair, but her attitude towards the situation is also not fair. She should have got abortion, should have agreed to her parents, should have gone somewhere else, should have started new life with education, and the last thing she should do is disrespect and be rude to people who still think good for her.

yup premarital is a wrong word here but there is probably no word for such kind of a marriage arrangement in any dictionary... it was still a taboo.. considered equal to premarital sex... I find this whole concept weird.. the girl is supposed to live her whole life as the person's widow.. but no one can accept her child with him... married is married.. very hypocritical society rules... but its also true that Sugna shud have abided by them.

but then couldnt they have gone for a paternity test? but ofcourse writers 'forget' such technology exists.
