All through India, there are lots of time where the groom has to dish out money to his salis if he wants to get married - for instance, after he is welcomed to the house of the bride, his salis may stop him at the door and ask for cash to let him in. They may also ask for cash before they allow him to garland her at the beginning of the wedding. There is cash for the shoes. Also, at the reception, the groom may be asked for money before he is allowed to sit by the bride. so lots of money.
