I've totally fallen in love with this song since I saw the movie it's from--even though my mother decided to fast-forward the whole song...😊 The minute I downloaded I felt like I had to have some sort of one shot with this song and then I realized what better than to base it on Heer and Prem after they split--technically. Although I'm not quite sure it works...so I might've just butchered the whole thing.
Heer lay awake in her bed in the morning, unwilling to move. Were the events taken place that day real? Did Nihaal bhaiyya really end up going to jail; accused of his wife's murder? Did Prem actually shun her away that night 6 months ago?
Din chadhe mujhse pooche nazar
She couldn't question herself anymore-all she knew was that this relationship of hers was over with Prem. She had left her mangulsutra there for him, just for herself. To make a clean break that their marriage was over--for good.
Kaun tha sapno mein raat bhar
Yet there was a part of her that refused to let go; it was a part she hated. She didn't want to love him anymore. For the past few months even through the happy moments all Prem had done was cause her pain.

As she sat up in bed and witnessed the darkness around her she knew. This was her destiny. Being surrounded by darkness. When her parents died, when Lalit declined her for Prem, when Prem died, and now--when yet again Prem refused to stand by her.

She pulled herself reluctantly out of bed and proceeded for her morning routine. Pulling on her gown, walking to the kitchen and putting on her tea and checking the morning paper; but there was something different today. She walked into the kitchen and froze.

He was special to her--that's why he appeared in her thoughts every second of the day. As he stood there in front of her waiting for her to take her hand she shook her head and his mirage disappeared and unwillingly her tears started to pour.

Why couldn't her heart stop trusting him? There was a shred of hope left in her brain for him to come back for her even though she knew this time she wouldn't go back--not to get shunned away again; yet this trust in her heart made her ache in pain.

As she walked through the market to pick up her vegetables she paused as she saw Meher and Preet walking alongside each other. Meher aur Preet yahaan? Lekin dono gaadi mein kyun nahi hain?
She noticed their hands intertwined and that gave her a sense of relief. Even if SHE didn't get the love she wanted from her husband and his family she was glad her little sister got more than enough. Preet proved himself to be a perfect person and that put a tiny smile on Heer's otherwise sullen face.
Dilon ka dilon se bhi kuch nata hai
Yeh dil dohrata hain
The smile fell from her face as she saw the person walking behind Meher and Preet. The person she couldn't see. The person who made her heart hurt like this. The same person who gave her all the happiness even if it was just for a few moments of her life. He looked different somehow. His eyes were tired, there was no sign of his trademark smile and the way his shoulder slumped made her feel even worse.

She saw his eyes flutter upwards as if he knew she was somewhere around--their hearts had this connection that was unexplainable; yet it still made her feel visible to him and so she ducked behind the corner, waiting for them to pass.

He was here, in her area. Were they here to take her home? Should she go? The thousands of question overwhelmed her heart as she saw them passing her.
"Tumhe pura pata hain na Meher?" She heard his tired voice ask. "Woh aayegi?
"Ji Prem jiju. Heer didi maan jayengi."
How had Meher known that she was here? Had Prem known these last few months as well? She had refused to tell anyone her location yet the other part of her heart jumped hearing that Prem had asked for her but what did he want from her?
Har dafa yeh aapko
Kehta wafa hai aaapko
Would he take her home? Was the faith and love she had for him worth it? Or was she about to get disappointed yet again for the third time?

She quickly walked behind them and watched as they all went into her apartment building and stopped in front of the locked door.
"Woh nahi hain," Prem sighed as he ran his hand through his hair again.
"PB, Heer bhabhi aajayengi," Preet placed a reassuring hand on Prem's shoulder.
Heer didn't know how or when but the tears had escaped from her eyes, causing the three of them to turn back and find her staring back at them.
She tried to dismiss the look that changed on Prem's face, he looked like a washed out person who had just seen the light, she couldn't understand when he took three strides to get to her and enclosed her in his arms.
"Heer main--"
She shook her head into his chest and pushed him away. "Don't. Please, kuch mat kehna,"
"Heer, main tumhe lene aaya hoon," Prem said quickly. "Mujhe ma ka saach pata chal gaya,"
She couldn't help but laugh. "Ab? Ab aaye ho? Che mahine ke baad? Meri yaad abhi hi aaye tumhe? Pehle kuch nahi tha? Aur ab tumhe ma ka saach pata chale? Jab main tumhe chila chila ke kehti rahi--tab kya tha?"
"Heer didi," Meher tried to interrupt.
"Nahin Meher. Kuch mat bolna. Tum aur Preet ek saath khush ho aur yeh mere liye kaafi hain." She forced herself to look into Prem's eyes as she said her next sentence. "Sab logo ko pyar nahi milta; aur jab milta hai--to woh tukhrar te hain."
Prem's face fell and she was yearning to rush to him and take him in her arms and tell him she was sorry and she was ready to come back but then all the things he had said to her over the years came back to her and she stood her ground. She walked past the three of them and proceeded to undo her lock when an arm caught her.
"Heer--main tumse hamesha pyar karta rahunga. Hamesha,"
And then he was gone. She turned back and saw all of them gone. Her heart was in pain. She wanted to go back with Prem but he--he wasn't worth the love she held in her heart for him but she knew one thing was true. If he was going to love her forever; so was she. Their love was something that despite all the circumstances would live through it without being together.

*cringes* I didn't get it proofed so it really did suck...and I won't be surprised if I get the bad comments on here because it obviously wasn't the best thing I've ever written. And also remember--it's the first time I've kept Premeer separated even though it hurt to write it like that...I couldn't keep them together...hope you all liked it! 😃
