I personally know no one with Autism but I dont know how common it is either so this poll will be a good idea to see how many of our fellow IF members do.

I live in the UK and know 580, 000 suffer from some sort of autistic disorder.
Comments are welcome.

Yes same here...I always heard people take about Autism but didn't really know what it was up till now. This is a great show as it is a medium for teaching the population for conditions like Autism.

Hey Mitz! Nice to see you here :P
As for the bolded part, I read this news online, last year, that somewhere in the USA, one family has 6 children who are ALL autistic. Its such a sad situtation for both the parents to handle SIX Autistic children. Handling one is hard enough, 6 is too much

Hey! Yes long time since RKB ended.😆
Okay back to the topic, yes autism is genetic but it is down to chance aswell within the family. So I guess that family has just been plain unlucky and I am sure mode of inheritance varies with the different types of autism.
Yes having one kid alone can be very difficult, but with 6 lifewould be even harder. You would need familly, finanacial, emotional support. Parents might need carers or give up thier full time job to cope with the caring.

For the UK, and according to the national Autistic Society (NAS)
Autism is prevalent in 1 of every 100 children
This is why it is important to understand and be aware of it as early diagnosis can lead to early intervention programs resulting in a much more positive outlook for the future
And yes, I have a 10 year old beautiful, mostly happy, very loving son with autism and severe learning difficulties.
We are very blessed!😊

@ MMG: Yes we are all very blessed indeed but one only realises how blessed they are when the things one takes for granted are taken away from them.

Hmmm, tend to disagree😊
To feel blessed or to feel cursed is a state of mind - ultimately you make the choice
It certainly isnt easy - and I'm sure many people may feel we are cursed, or at the very least unlucky to have an autistic child. Probably the same sort of people who tend to mute celebrations if someone gives birth to a daughter as opposed to a boy (within Asian culture) as if you should apologise!!😆 I think someone once remarked to me "What a shame about your boy, it would have been better if God had given you a daughter than this!!!!!! Incredible!😕
You only have to open your eyes and really see what some people have to bear each day, famine, disease, terminal illness and other calamities, to be grateful for what you have and be a peace.
So I would like to think I am grateful for what I have now, as opposed to when it is gone - which is too late!
Much love to you all - and apologies for philosophizing too much!😆
