| HUM TUM director Kunal Kohli is now directing Yashraj's Aamir-Kajol starrer FANAH. But while you are reading this news-piece, Kunal has already wrapped up the shooting of a film featuring Ajay Devgan and Kajol. Okay, let's end your suspense: Kunal has directed an ad film [Tata Indicom] featuring the real-life husband and wife team of Ajay and Kajol. In fact, this is the quickest film made by Kunal so far. Here's how: Kunal shot the film on December 28 [from 12.45 noon to 5.30 p.m.], in less than one normal shift at Karjat, a scenic location near Mumbai. "Ajay and Kajol were holidaying in Karjat and they didn't want to ruin their holiday by returning to Mumbai for a day and then returning to Karjat the next day. So we decided to film the ad in Karjat itself. Luckily, art director Nitin Desai has a studio there, so things fell into place," Kunal informs me. This is Kunal's second ad film, the first one featured Saif Ali Khan [Lay's]. "I wasn't too satisfied with that ad, so I decided to take a break. I was determined that I'd attempt another ad only if the [ad] script impressed me and also, I had the requisite time on hand. Luckily, we'd taken a 10-day break since Aamir was getting married and when Prasoon Joshi [of McCann Erickson] asked if I'd be interested in directing the ad, I agreed instantly since I loved the concept," Kunal sounds excited. This is the first time Kunal has interacted with Ajay. "He's a cool, chilled out guy. He plays the part of a newsreader and has a dual role in the film, while Kajol plays a Christian reporter. It was a pleasure working with them since every shot was okayed in the first take itself," the director of HUM TUM adds. Incidentally, the FANAH team of cinematographer Ravi Chandran, sync sound recordist Dilip Subramaniam and even Kunal's assistants were involved in the making of this ad which goes on air any day from now. |
