Particularly since Padma was not a step-mom in the way, say, Suruchi (step-mom of Dhruva) was a step-mom. She was the aunt of both Jyoti and Sudha, even if she had never married Kamal and had Deepu & Sushi. So Kamal was right to expect that she would be more affectionate towards them than any other step-mom would, for the same reason that one normally loves her/his nephews or neices.
Also, Kamal was the biological father of all 4, so for Padma to accuse him of being partial to Jyoti as though he was the one who gave birth to her is assinine. I think he should pull the plug and divorce her, and move out with Sudha, and help her get some confidence back w/o resorting to her Devika avatar.
