Great ideas thrown by everybody. Ok, so I had a ponder over this too and here's the meagre below I came up with. Hope it's not too painful to read, been a while since I last flexed my poor writing skills.
With the Mandir locked and the keys with the Buas, Rani arranged a makeshift temple in the corner of the kitchen where Bhanu and Kali joined her. They sincerely prayed for Yudi's quick recovery as well as the rest of the family. Once done, she made breakfast with Yudi's favourite, moong ka halwa and departed for his room, the room that was sadly once theirs.
Yudi was already up and dressed in an elegant blue sherwani. The sight caught her breath but soon misery took over remembering the fact that she was just an ugly naukrani now, not his Rani.
"Kunwerji, breakfast."
"Thank you. You can leave it here."
"Erm, I would also like to wish you happy birthday…on behalf of all the servants."
"Thank you."
"We also held a special pooja. Do you mind if I put a tikka on you? Your day will go well."
"If that's the case then yes, you can."
A tear ran down Rani's cheek as not being able to apply the tikka without revealing her true self. Another one followed at him not being able to loving wipe it off.
"Kunwerji, if you don't mind, I also have a gift." Yudi looked in confused surprise. "It's a custom at the previous Kingdom I was employed at. All the servants would but something for the monarch. The King would also normally use it."
"Thank you. I accept."
Taking off the lid of the box, inside was a black 4 piece suit. Yudi simply picked it up and silently headed for the bathroom while Rani laid out breakfast. It was painful not seeing any expressions on his face. He soon emerged from the bathroom. Rani felt her knees go weak. She couldn't fathom how handsome he looked in the attire. She glanced at him up and down and then smiled only to realise that he couldn't see behind her veil. Casting aside her sorrow, she handed over the plate of moong ka halwa.
"Moong ka halwa, my favourite." Yudi held the plate over Rani's hands, estimated where Rani's eyes would be under the veil and smiled that familiar smile. Rani stood frozen. What was Yudi doing? Why was he smiling? Before her questions could be answered, Yudi removed his hand and muttered an apology. Rani's heart sank. She thought her Kunwerji had returned. "I'm sorry for doing this to you…Rani."
Yudi placed the plate down, stood in front of Rani and lifted her veil. There she was, his Rani, looking beautiful as ever. He couldn't help but notice the sorrow in her eyes. The sorrow he caused. Not being able to see the hurt anymore, he slowly closed her eyes and kissed her forehead pulling her into an embrace. He would explain everything to her. Why he did what he did. How she saved him from falling into the spell by hugging him before the clock struck 12 on that horrible night. How he did all this just to protect her. How he more than appreciated all she had done for him so far. And why he still had to carry on doing all this. He was sure she would understand and also support him too. But for now, he was content in enjoying the warmth of the embrace. And that brought a glint back to Rani's eyes.
Ahem, so now madam, where's your scene?
