Ashita Dhawan, who has previously starred as Malti bhabhi on Bidaai (Star Plus), will now be seen in another daily on Sony called Ladies Special that will air next week. She talks to us about her new venture and how, though she identifies with her character, she doesn't use the same means as her for transport.
"Ladies Special is about the journey of four ladies who belong to different age groups. The train is the only place they meet each and discuss their personal lives. They share all their ups and downs in the ladies' compartment. It's a very natural and unique show that people will connect to," says Ashita.
Elaborating on the character she will be seen playing, she says, "I play Bubbly Cheddha, the liveliest character of them all. She adds humour to the show and at the same time, she's very emotional. Whatever she buys, she buys it in EMI. There's also a standard line that goes with her, 'Record hai… Bubbly Cheddha kabhi EMI nahi bhoolti!'"
The unique concept, of the entire serial revolving around friendships built during a daily train journey, is what attracted Dhawan to the role. But surprisingly, the actress has used the local trains just once. She shares her experience with us saying, "It was four years ago while I was struggling as an actress. I used to stay in Andheri and I had to go to Lower Parel that day. I went to the ticket counter and bought the ticket. Then, while boarding the train, I saw that in one ladies compartment there was a lot of rush while the other was empty. So I went and sat in that one. The TC came and only then did I realise that I was sitting in first class with a second class ka pass!"
She adds that she is very similar to her character, saying, "Bubbly is a lot like me. It's great fun to play this role and I love it. There are absolutely no differences between us…except for the fact that Bubbly travels by train!"
Ashita started shooting about one month ago and has enjoyed every moment. "It has been an excellent experience. I love my character as there is no rona dhona and she's very jolly. I just hope people like her as well," she says.
Ladies Special will commence from May 25 and will be telecast every Monday to Thursday at 9:30pm on Sony TV.
