the Gala rounds to begin and see how ALL these contestants perform different songs under pressure and in intense competition before starting fan clubs and lobbying for a particular candidate?

I'm sure nobody wants a repeat of Fame Gurukul, where there was this ground swell of emotion/support for Qazi and it became fashionable to support him regardless of his abilities (or in-ability) to sing. I heard reasons such as "he's such a nice guy". "He's so honest and down to earth". "He's so good looking. etc. etc." None of these are good reasons to vote for someone (talent should be the only criteria). It got to a point where people who hadn't even heard him sing in the previous round were voting en-block for him without giving regard to other singers.

I would hate to see anybody get selected as the next Indian Idol just because he/she becomes popular with the masses for reasons other than their talent/singing.

I want to caution those who are starting "fan clubs" for various contestants to wait until they have had enough data to carefully analyze their choice.

I for one will keep an open mind about ALL selected contestants and formulate an opinion ONLY after having heard all of the finalists in the Gala round.
Please don't be influenced by friends/relatives of a contestant who is on the show. They will obviously try to influence public opinion in favor of their relative/friend.
Good luck to each and everyone of them. Let's hope we get the most deserving Indian Idol winner.

srgmpmaniac --> That's is precisely what I intend to do. Keep an open mind about ALL contestants and not focus on just one.

Exactly...amey is good...but if we choose our favorite from the start itself without judging other cntstnts unbiased....its not good...
I hate seeing people having polls "mera agla indian idol" after listening to 1-2 songs...everybody has 1 or 2 songs mastered when they compete for such programs...

A very good post!

I think all of them should be given enough time to prove themselves. It is injustice on part of viewers (including me)if they do not give a fair chance to others. I strongly feel all this lobbying and creating fan clubs must stop. May be there's someone better than these two who's yet to come in the piano round and sing next week.

Man u r so damn confused Mr.Rolm, on one hand u r saying purely talented singer shud b the next Indian Idol and on the other hand u say sonu Nigam is out of line for saying tht Amey was the better singer(which is undoubtedly true).Or is it that u dont understand who is better coz u hav no idea abt music?????😕

Anywayz I agree tht its not time yet 2 start fan clubs.Indian Idol shud b selected only based on his singing ability(as the judges rate coz apparently they r more sensile than u)

Can ppl think beyond Amey in this forum? I'm sure there are better singers around. Just because Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia (with all due respect to the maestro)praised Amey doesn't mean that we already decide who the next II should be. Come on ppl! grow up! Amey may be a good singer but other contestants deserve a fair chance too. Pt. Chaurasia obviously didn't compare Amey with the current contestants of II2. Who knows! May be he would like all of them or may be he would find someone better than Amey. The judges need not be the ultimate to pass on judgements. Yeh public hai, yeh sab janti hai!

then howcome Amey didn't become a playback singer???😕

Amey has sung in many Marathi albulms and Hindi ones. It is not so easy to get into bollywood singing industry where you need to have a good break to get in. You need influence these days to even come up with your own album. To top it all you need the money too, or u need some Godfather to sponsor you. Amey wants to do it all on his own merit.
