Flop shows galore

Time Bomb

After Balaji's Kavyanjali, Ketan Mehta's Time Bomb generated huge expectations. Touted as the next big show, with no age-old saas bahu formula and futuristic technology, this bomb diffused before it could ignite a spark.

Not only did the show turn out to be a turkey, but it also proved that Rajeev Khandelwal was not far from being just a one-hit wonder. After watching him as a romantic lover in Kahiin To Hoga, the audience rejected him as an action hero.

Kohinoor

Another big budget show that sank without creating a ripple. The mysterious diamond, which promised to dazzle audiences, turned out to be a hoax.

Even the mammoth hoardings and the plot inspired from the international bestseller Da Vinci Code, could not salvage this Sahara One show.

Saath Rahega Always

Ok, so Remix worked for Star One. But that doesn't mean the same concept would work in a somewhat different setting. The low-key publicity and promotion didn't help either.

Indian Idol 2

After the stupendous success of Indian Idol, no other show managed to match the euphoria and excitement Idol created. Abhijeet Sawant continues to be a crowd-puller, but, unlike its predecessor, the second season has turned out to be a damp squib. The junta has shown zero interest in the contestants.

Even Anu Malik's witty limericks have failed to create a buzz around Idol 2. Unlike its rival, Kaun Banega Crorepati 2, Idol seemed an impatient child, wanting to get attention from his teachers. Coming in too early, even before the audience could give Abhijeet some time to register, Idol 2 has proved be a huge letdown.

Batliwala House No 43

Sony's strategy of lifting international show formats worked with Indian Idol, but proved to be a turkey with Batliwala House No 43.

Based on the popular British chat show, The Kumars at No 42, Batliwala neither entertains nor has humorous cultural references.

The Parsi family in the Indian version is miles away from the sophisticated, yet clumsy Kumars. In a last ditch effort to make the concept work, the channel recently sacked the Batliwalas and replaced them with the Kudkudiya's — a Gujju family. But even the smell of dhokla and undhiyo failed to lure viewers.

Rabba Ishq Na Hove

The Aruna Irani-Sangeeta Ghosh-Varun Badola combo failed to recreate the Des Mein Nikkla Hoga Chand magic on Zee with Rabba.

Although the first few episodes were fresh air, Rabba soon digressed.

Celebrity Fame Gurukul

Imagine a bunch of actors with zero interest in singing, thrown into a room and made to entertain the nation with their antics.

To fill in the void created by Fame Gurukul, Sony decided to rope in known faces on the small screen to make them compete with each other vocally.

The result was one of the biggest disasters on television this year. Fortunately the channel heads respected the junta's voice and pulled the plug from the show way before it's four-week run.

Thank you so much Priya for posting this.
Yeah, it is a slow moving show and they have introduced so many characters and new things.
Lets wish it picks up good in the coming year.
