Recently, a girl's drink was spiked and she was raped by a 'friend' in Kolkata. Preity Zinta, who is deeply disturbed by such incidents, speaks out.
Here is what Preity had to say:
I think one of the most important things is common sense. I believe girls are blessed with loads of common sense, but very few use it. My own common sense rules for me. I am extremely careful that wherever I go, I don't let anyone make a drink for me, unless I really really trust the man. In spite of all this, my drink, which I had left unattended at a party for just about two minutes, got spiked. Thankfully, I had my family with me that day. Otherwise, I don't know what would have happened! So, don't let anyone buy you a drink, and stay by your drink.
A lot of girls think they can get rich boys to give them a good time and buy them all that they want. But remember one thing -- these boys are buying you things because they want something in return. For most of the boys, their money means easy access to girls. So be independent and don't let anyone do too many favours for you. Wherever you are going, inform someone about your whereabouts.
And then this MMS thing. [In Delhi, a 'boyfriend' leaked a girl's striptease video in an act of vendetta.] It horrifies me to think girls actually allow guys to record their intimate moments. How dumb can you get? Whoever suggests it, just leave him then and there. Some day, he is going to get back at you. One big fight and he will be tempted to take revenge. And that intimate video will haunt the girl forever.
Yes, I understand that you want to trust the man you love. But your gut instinct can help you understand that intimacy with the man you love is not for exhibition. If someone asks you to prove your love for him, he is the wrong man. Love does not need proof, nor does friendship and trust.
Life is always about the choices you make. Sorry to say, but girls who are still naive enough to fall for these games perhaps deserve it. Then don't go around with this 'I have been victimised' look; be strong enough to face the repercussions.
My psychology classes taught me one principle: KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. Follow this, and your life will be free of all hassles.
