Is it right to call these Holligans in Mangalore taliban. If the taliban come to know about it they will feel "honoured" or "insulted". Why do the Political parties involve themselves in culture. Indian culture is a treasure and I dont think modernization will wipe away the Indian culture. If these hooligans are allowed to continue with their shameful acts yes we will be having a Taliban group in India too. What a shame. And we call our country to be secular.

I agree, even I was ashamed of what the Hindu activists did in Mangalore. Yes, they acted like the Taliban but the only difference is that the Karnatake govt, opposition, public and the press has strongly condemned these actions and hopefully will not be repeated again. That's what a secular India is supposed to do- squash these elements before they spread like cancer like what's happening with the real Taliban!

And that my friends is why you avoid popular clubs and attend underground raves.

Indians are masters of obvious, but oblivious to the not so obvious.

The act was similar to Taliban ..but thankfully these activists are not powerful like Taliban..and in India people and Govt discourage such activities...i hope we don't have 2 see such incidents in future...i am ashamed of such Hindu activities who molest women in the name of god and religion.

I was more annoyed at the people that just stood there watching and did nothing to help the poor girls out. One brave man stepped in and then got beaten by the whole gang. Even the camera man did not even call the police.

Lets lite some debating fire under this😉
Taleban doesnt allow women folk to study or work or do things to beautify themselves, Their means are throwing acid on the face of the women and/or killing the women. As far as I know no sexual content, no molestation. In India you can find this type of behaviour in the northern state of Kashmir. You can almost tie it up to a particular religion.
The folks in Mangalore didnt want the women folk to visit bars, smoke, etc. Their means are beating up the women. Molestation is something that is sexual, there was no sexual advance in this case. In India this has been seen in a lot of places, Mumbai, Mangalore, Gujarat. This kind of moral policing varies from being preachy(this gene is present in almost all Desi's irrespective to gender/religion😉) to being physical in natural(this is also seen in all genders/religions)
So the folks in Mangalore are not like Taliban😉

The Taleban have been known to rape young girls in Afghanistan. There have been stories about schoolgirls being raped, and then after returning to their homes they are killed due to the embarrassment or shame, sometimes even stoned to death by villagers.

There was one story about a militant raping a 14 year old girl. She did not tell the police or her family due to shame, but then they found out she was pregnant. Her father took a knife and cut her open without anaesthetics to remove the baby, and that girl is now fighting for her life in hospital.

So no those folks are not like the Taleban, and hopefully they won't be.

Well, they are kind of like Taliban because they think they are the moral and religious police for the religion and area. Even if they oppress women in a way different from the Afghani Taliban, the motive is the same- OPPRESSION of women in the name of religion. Unfortunately, these people don't understand their own religion too well. Where in Hindu scriptures is it written that women cannot enjoy themselves the way they want to? In fact, women had an equal if not a higher status in the ancient Hindu society. It's only later, after the Mughals invaded India, that women started being oppressed in the name of religion.

Moderator's Note:
It has been repeated time and again not to bring religion, while debating / argueable discussion. It ends up being instigating and rest what follows you very well know. Consider this as last warning. Thank You! Concerns ? PM me

Am not sure why we are refering Taliban here in first place. This act is shamefull and brings back the doubts on upliftment of society in recent years...
In fact law enforcement and police is not supporting it and arrests have been made. It's anti social act, by few narrow minded individuals...that said the what is the problem?
PS - Please donot bring religion and comparison of religious values etc etc. We very well understand where that discussion will go.
