Should be censored for profanity?

or

Much ado about nothing.

And if you wonder who the heck is Amy. You should be enjoying your happy little world. Because in this neck of the woods I have to hit my head on the wall till it bleeds to remind myself that I am supposed to dislike 'Womanizer' otherwise I keep singing it all day.

Censoring stuff makes it lot more popular and then it truly becomes much ado about nothing.
I say leave it the way it is. Chances are youngsters will get over their fancy earlier that way.
BTW, I am a bit confused about what exactly the lyrics mean. It's not your usual in - your - face kind of profanity in this song but it does make the mom in me very uncomfortable for some reason. I googled the lyrics and skimmed through some of the interpretations there. Still not sure what Brit is trying to say - in case, she is trying to say something.

Double meaning only works when the second meaning is something that is convincing, fortunately it isnt

Never happy to see someone so succesful scraping rock bottom, so wish Brittany would find some other way to stay relevant
Oh about the question,,she has lost a lot of fanbase, so doing a cost benefit analysis, I say Much Ado about nuthin, please dont censor it and give her Madonna like incentives to keep going down this road

Ahhhhhh --- I finally get it😆 I heard it on youtube just now. Hearing the lyrics makes the intended meaning lot more apparent than reading the lyrics - like I was doing the first time around when I made my post.
She could have used the actual word but then it would not have created such a stir. At least, it would have saved me the trouble of figuring out what the heck she means by the song title.
Anyways, no need to ban the song. She is not the first one to use the eff word in a song and this is definitely not going to be the first time teenagers would be hearing it. It's more like much ado about nothing - clever use of words....period
p.s. reminds me of dada kondke movie titles🤣however, they used to be double meaning. In this case, it's the way the words sound when spoken is causing all the stir. Still, reminded me of good old dada😆

It took me a while to get it too. I heard there were already censorship complaints about the to be released single. First time I heard it, I thought to myself - this is awful grammar, worse than 'way I are'. Should it not be 'wanting to seek amy' instead of 'wanting to if you seek amy'? No wonder the kids write such poor sentences. Then it finally dawned on me. Now I am like - that is so much better - it makes sense now. Now the kids wont be learning bad grammar and saying "I are tall".

The FCC has a bizarre law that prohibits 'profanity' on public radio or televsision. Stores like Wal-Mart etc also carry 'censored' versions of TV shows and CDs. That is why despite so many songs that have an 'eff'' word, there is a big deal if it is released on the radio. Usually words like these are bleeped. One of my friends was once surprised that in Indian soaps people often will say "Oh S**T" because that is a censored profanity in USA.

Honestly, I think the censorship is counterproductive. For in the instance of this song, if people figure out what its spelling out - they know the word. What are you protecting them from? They probably use the word all the time with their friends. Secondly, if someone was actually clueless of what the lyrics are saying - censorship will actually highlight the profanity.

The worst censorship was Black Eyed Peas "Dont Phunk with my heart", where they had to record an edit "Dont Mess with my heart" for radio. On the other hand 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)' received full airplay uncensored despite being more explicitly profane, for the simple reason that the suburban mom did not understand the 'ghetto slang'. The song was actually used by several cheerleading, dance and pep squads across the nation by highschool and middleschool kids......until parents started finding out what the song meant.

Coming back to Britney, I pity the girl. She pioneered the teenage bubblegum pop around the world. The entire Disney musical brigade is a result of Britney revitalizing the bubblegum pop genre. When you listen to her, you actually can see that she is a very good singer. It is just such a pity that she made poor choices and let her career go down the drain. When I hear about Miley Cyrus and all the Hannah Montana sold out concerts, I cringe and wonder......are we creating another Britney to go down the overworked and lost pop idol road.

Try as I may to dislike 'Womanizer' it is a listen to it once - get stuck in your head song. It is quite good, in that annoying - get out of my head way. However, I think "If you seek Amy" sounds too much like an attempt to snatch her place back from Katy Perry. The song is lyrically ambiguous and sure to spark controversy. You kissed a girl in 2008 now seek Amy in 2009.

Now before someone assumes that I am too much into pop music...let me clarify with a statement on contemporary pop I wrote back in May 2008. I keep in touch now and then so I can make fun of it and start rambling discussion topics.

Even though such topics can give an inviting opportunities for twisted minds to go overboard the COC but acknowledging matured adults debating here and justifying.... tolerance of DM as long as members understand their limits, clearly outlined by the topic poster, I am forced to say Kudos to RTH to bring this topic and underlining debatable argument

Re – topic > was the disguised verbiage implicated profanity by the way song was sung or visuals or lyrics? I say, YES, any law against it? NO... then....Don't think much and enjoy the song.

I will say let it go unless some twisted mind comes up with profane interpretation, lol then ask him to check some desi numbers and think ? like guttar guttar, choli key phicchey, apni murgi rakhna sambhal….

If one thinks no profanity then everything would suggest clean orelse tambu mey bambu song representation might even seem like profanity rather then suggesting a camping trp.

All in thinking..ask a 10 year old sing ... and ask a prev 50 old sing it... ask them the what they feel about the song and make ur call which way u wanna go... If you seek Amy song rocks ..make ur own call forget connotations😉😆

This was all done to get her back on the news, apparently the rehab stories got old. Anyways, all these discussions and debates on censorship are giving the song more popularity, Brittany fans are praising the song, and more and more are listening to it, even if it is to figure out the meaning in words. The word is widely used in other songs as well, just because they release a "clean" version, doesn't mean the intended meaning is lost. Censoring the song isn't going to do anyone any good. Parents get so caught up trying to do the right thing, pointing fingers at celebs (not that they don't deserve those fingers *no pun intended*), but half the time, all it takes is for them to stop using such language at home in front of their kids. Otherwise, the word has become a part of everyday language for kids at school, who think its "cool".

Anyways, my high school graduation song was Akon's Smack That, no kidding. All the kids laughed at the teachers/staff for having accepted it, apparently it won the popular vote. Moral-of-the-story, there's more profane songs out there, just because they don't say the word over and over, doesn't make them any more appropriate.

Any guesses on which news channel has featured the song controversy first. Master of the obvious! Apparently the news is also something children should not see.

Kelly's Court.(This by the way is a news segment from Primetime (6-10 PM slot - prime news viewing time)
