Daljit Kaur and Shaleen Bhanot are putting the finishing touches to their performance for Nach Baliye. With the competition's finale round the corner, the tension is high and even a small slip up can mean an ouster from the competition. We speak to Daljit about her preparation for the show, what she thinks are her chances of making it into the final and of course winning the competition.
It has been a beautiful journey all together. Nach has taught me to smile on the camera even if I am under any stress. Apart from that Nach has given me the opportunity to spend quality time with Shaleen and we've gotten closer.
How much do you think you have improved in terms of dance?
I am someone who doesn't party at all. Nach has taught me to dance and actually dance well. It's now a compliment...I can see that I've improved a lot and specially when I see my fans complimenting me, I believe it's true!
Apart from dance, what else have you learnt from Nach?
Nach has taught me to accept criticism and to be more sensitive with myself. It has taught me to be more positive and strong.
How tough is the competition for you at this time? Who according to you is your toughest competitor at this stage?
The competition is obviously very tough as other 3 jodis are equally popular and good in terms of dance. We are trying our best, let's see what happens next.
Throughout the journey so far, did you feel disappointed at any point of time?
Not disappointed as such but extremely depressed during the solo round where I performed on 'More Piya.' from Devdas. It was supposed to be mind-blowing but it all got ruined. Actually what happened as that firstly toh our choreographers changed the previous night and secondly during my performance, my back dancers were supposed to come and hold my hand but at the last moment they couldn't hold my hand as their hands were too sticky and slippery. That really made me angry.
You've come in danger zones many times...
We've always been showered with the blessings and wishes of our fans. When we came in the danger zone too, we received mails from many of our fans who said that 'we will make you win' and since then we haven't come in the danger zone. So, I think they all appreciate our hard work and creativity and hence will continue to support us.
How are you coping with the pressure now?
Well, where we used to sleep for 3 hours a day now we sleep for only 2! (Laughs)
In the time you have spent with Shaleen, what did you discover about him which you didn't know earlier?
I've discovered that for him competition is not what matters, instead it's my happiness because whenever I get nervous about anything he's the one who tells me not to worry and that's what keeps me going.
Being a religious person, have you prayed for your success?
We normally pray at every achievement of ours.. irrespective of Nach. Avina didi, my hairdresser, goes to Haji Ali and prays for us and my parents too go to the Gurudwara. Shaleen on the other hand has a habit of lighting a diya everyday and his mom has immense belief in Ramji, toh she lights diya on my behalf too.
