Flaviya: The point is, Slumdog Millionaire is not an Indian film and it does not deserve the hype its getting.
An outstanding film such as Jodha Akbar deserved a nomination instead of Slumdog Millionaire. AR Rahman's musical score in Jodha Akbar is simply amazing.
Why all the hype and appreciation for Slumdog Millionaire?

first of all I find his comments racist.. the way he says "white people" etc. It isn't PC and who says Hollywood is "white people's industry".. it has actors, technicians, producers, directors of all race and color.

Oscar jury is full of people from all over the world. They could be black, white, yellow, brown. So what "white connection" is he yapping about.

He has no problems stealing "white man's ideas" (his words not mine) but then tries to take a moral higher ground when they make a movie on India.

well first of all he may have made better soundtracks before but if Jodha Akbar wasn't submitted to the Oscars then what can they do?

Also people fail to realize that Slumdog got nominations in the musical awards because the background score and songs were relevant to the feel and essence of the movie. It complimented the visuals very well. He could have used the best composition he has ever made in the movie but if it doesn't fit the movie or the scene then it doesn't deserve a nomination or an award.

This isn't a grammies where best songs/albums win, we are talking about the songs and sounds as an aspect of the movie that it was used for and they perfectly accompanied the action that we saw. The way the M.I.A. song was used in the movie was just great. Also, at the end when they showed the Jai Ho song and the dance, it just blended so well. The sound, score and the music made the movie dynamic and engaging. It doesn't matter if the songs aren't good to listen on their own or if Rehman has composed better indivisual songs or albums.

Although Rahman has maybe produced far better songs in the past, but the background score that flows with slumdog is amazing. The soundtrack on its own might not amaze you, but you have to actualy watch the movie to understand how amazing the music is, which sychronises perfectly with the story and picture.

well said......👏

i don't understand why certain sections of bollywood are making such a hue & cry about it.......instead of being proud that someone from their own fraternity & country is being recognized on a global platform they are crying foul...............i say its just sour grapes....

Agree, that Jai Ho picturization was brilliant. It is actually a pioneer of sorts - it blends Bollywood song dance and film clips and sweeps you off your feet. The Jai ho nomination for best song is the strongest contender, and I will not be surprised it it wins. Though we all know ARR has superior compositions.

Slumdog Millionaire is an English film not an Indian film.
So why should it get recognition in India?
Films should be made for our desi junta not for the westerners.
