Bollywood reacts to Ashutosh-Sajid War of Words

Bollywood react to Ashutosh-Sajid War of WordsLast night at the Star Screen awards, Ashutosh Gowarikar and host Sajid Khan had a verbal jhagda on stage. Last year, Vinod Chopra had taken objection to some cracks made at him and his films at an awards function.

Hosts Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan too have recieved flak for their funny acts on stage. We asked actors and filmmakers from the industry what they think of this lighthearted ribbing. Read on...

Riteish Deshmukh: I wasn't present at the awards so I'm unaware of the comments made on the films. Sajid's a brand and has his own style of humour.

He has been doing this for more than ten years and the public loves him for that. About making fun of films and friends in the industry at an award function should be taken in the right spirit. We loved SRK doing it and we love Sajid doing it too.

Goldie Behl: Humour is good. But not at the cost of getting personal. Humour is highly subjective. What's funny according to one person, may be offensive to the other.

I think it is the responsibility of various award organisers to decide how they wish to position their awards. Humour at the Academy awards is different from that at MTV Movie awards, or a Russell Peters show.

Katrina Kaif: I think It's just light-hearted comedy and that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's the entertainment industry, after all.

Sanjay Gupta: Anything done in moderation with dignity and grace is acceptable, but I feel these three things are sorely lacking at award function these days. Ultimately, award functions are held to facilitate the hard work put in by filmmakers. Let's not forget that.

John Abraham: I wasn't there when the incident happen- ed, so it would be imprudent for me to comment on the issue. I wasn't upset with the Dostana act, it was a Dostana night and Sajid was really funny.

Shilpa Shetty: Humour has a limit. It's funny when the joke is not on you. You can't hit below the belt, especially at film awards functions where the entire fraternity is present.

I don't mind if people crack jokes on me as long as it's not very personal like Chunky had made on Koena last year.

It's best to take things with a pinch of salt but we should also realise that we are creative people who are sensitive and eccentric.

The slightest things can trigger off a nasty reaction while the meanest of jokes can get an amused response.

Abhishek Kapoor: I guess it would depend on how charming the host is!

Vishal Dadlani: Though I don't know what happened, I think it's important to have a sense of humour.

Anurag Kashyap: I like it. We should develop a sense of humour and learn to laugh at ourselves. Sometimes it gets sensitive. But we should learn to let it go. It's all fun and games.

I agree with Goldie Behl and Shilpa Shetty.

Indian award shows are ridiculous with their lame repetitive and personal jokes. Like show some class please.. Make some intelligent jokes that don't sound like a bunch of 10 year olds came up with..

Also, the so called jokes are always directed at people who don't belong to the "joke initiator"'s clique. Like last year SRK and his sidekick chamcha Saif decided to get all personal and make lame jokes and pick on people they have a problem with.

Sajid is NOT funny at all. In the countdown show he always made b**tchy comments about select people. and then kiss the behind of the bigwigs like no tomorrow. He had the nerve to make fun of movies like Dor or make fun of Ashutosh Goviritkar's movies on his show.

I mean we are talking about the director who made Hey Baby LOL..he should be the last person to comment about other people's creative work.

I toally agree with what Goldie Behl said, comedy and humor for the academy awards is very different from regular stand-up acts! So things should be done with more grace and more careful b/c people get hurt even though sajid's has to intentions of hurting them!

I agree with most of them that they should take humour has it is just as humour...not too seriously..seems most of them did not mind.

I think awards should be fun , personally i like farah and srks sense of humour in there movies...maybe because its more me i find it funnier than stupid slapstick or watching just awards with performances gets boring.

well i havenot seen the awards yet but i think jokes shuld always be taken in good humour...i mean there have been jokes in many award functions n its all quite entertaining n i dont think any1 shuld make such a big deal out of it..i mean at IIfa awards 2007 dey made fun of saif kareena and shahid love triangle..n it was hell funny..dey showed dat in the nominations of best film...n i saw kareena laughing like hell..i mean seriously dere are ways to look up at a thing..either take it positively or negatively..i personally dun think such a big deal shuld ve been made by ashu..i mean instead look at the fact that ur that famous that sum1 is doing an act on u..i mean c'mon ppl take it a little easy...

i agree that people should take jokes in the right spirit but the people making jokes should also know where to draw the line.
