Smpathy for Kripa, NOT Angad!!!
An Analysis of Show Contrary to Popular Opinion
Though Kripa had committed an injustice by inadvertently letting her testimony regarding Angad's character slightly damage his case on charge of Josh's murder, the truth is that Kripa is not responsible for Angad's incarceration. Angad was incarcerated for fourteen years because he was found near Josh's limp and lifeless body by the police. Since the Indian judicial and penal system, corrupt as it is, formulates on the logic that a man is guilty until proven innocent, Angad was found guilty due to lack of sufficient evidence provided proving otherwise. Despite his clamor to be heard over the injustice of being labeled a murderer and criminal, his shouts were not heard primarily because of Prithvi's contrivance that had sought to leave Angad in a situation of helplessness and hopelessness. All of Prithvi's actions were motivated by love of Kripa, a love so all-consuming that he would kill to attain her in his life. So, when Angad went to jail, is it any surprise that Prithvi managed to persuade Kripa to be bound in holy matrimony? So, yes, maybe Kripa should not have been so gullible and wont to believe the worst of Angad, but she is and was. Think back to the time when she engaged in premarital sex with Angad despite her better judgment and instilled values. Think back to her gullibility regarding her entanglement in the plot of Harshini, Anita, and Karthik against their love leading Angad to believe the worst of her. So, yes, the moral of story is everyone is human and humans make mistakes. So, why criticisms of Kripa? Because she dared to consummate her marriage with Prithvi?
Let me say this: Angad came back in her life after one year of her marriage to Prithvi. When a person gets a pet for even a few weeks, an individual is liable to get attached and fall in love with the pet. But here we are talking about humans. Of course, Kripa developed feelings for Prithvi that were stronger than they were in the past over the course of this one year. Unlike her volatile relationship with Angad, her relationship with Prithvi was based on mutual affection and regard. Well, of course then, Angad's comeback in her life as Zaib, would make her feel threatened. She now has a settled life with Prithvi, his mom, and Mishti. It might not be the life she envisioned when she was enamored of Angad, but it is a life that she has come to appreciate. This life is a safe haven from all the upheavals that was caused by her incessant misfortune during her period of romance when blindly in love with Angad. So, when Angad begins making passes at Mishti, Kripa is naturally protective. Mishti might not regard Kripa as her favorite person, but by relation with Prithvi alone, Kripa feels that she has an obligation to protect Mishti. So, she thinks exposing Zaib's true identity as Angad is a surefire way to get Angad out of their life and safeguard against further misfortunes in her life.
Kripa, of course, being a little bit naive and overconfident, comes to think of these heated encounters with Angad as a game, but she has forgotten that Angad invented the game, and he is the master player. She is but a pawn in the game and fated to lose. When she comes to realize this, she wants to tie herself to Prithvi in an irrefutable manner. So, she consummates her marriage with Prithvi thinking that now their physical relationship has bound them in a union that no one can come between. She calls Angad that night to inform him that he cannot ever hope to break their marriage. Again--naive on Kripa's part! A physical relationship in any marriage is not a guarantee against a breakup of marriage. While many feel that Kripa is a witch for actually committing to a physical relationship with Prithvi, I personally see nothing wrong with the act. In marriage, you are supposed to give yourself--heart, body, mind, and soul--to the individual you marry. When Kripa professes to have given her heart, mind, and soul to Prithvi, why refrain from the sacred act of sharing a physical union with Prithvi? That is the natural next step after all. (Personally, if I had ever been in Kripa's position and suspected my marriage in danger due to wily designs of Angad, I would have moved heaven, mountain, earth, and sky to sustain and protect my relationship with my husband. And all Kripa did is consummate her marriage!)
While almost everybody is bent on reading some regard for Angad in Kripa's eyes or actions, I cannot. When Kripa says that she no longer loves Angad, I believe her words as the truth. Whenever an individual is burned in a relationship, maybe the memories of the ex-flame haunt one. Maybe one feels tortured at their presence in one's life. In Kripa's case, this and more is true. Angad is Kripa's ex-flame, and his presence in her life acts as a horrid reminder of the loss, grief, and anger she felt over her relationship with Angad and the past she wants to forget but cannot. Life does not come with erasers, and unfortunately for Kripa, she cannot erase her past with Angad. But she is determined to protect her present and future. Furthermore, in Kripa's eyes and by Angad's own confession, Angad is not the same person she fell in love with. He has changed. He is motivated by rage over what he regards as Kripa's betrayal of their love and his need for revenge. In that process, he stoops low enough to use an innocent--Mishti--in his scheme of unraveling Kripa's marriage and wrecking havoc in her life. The intense scenes between Kripa and Angad are proof of this hate and an unburied past. That is why my smpathies extent towards Kripa. Kripa wants to live a happy life away from her past, but Angad won't let her. Angad's refusal to move past his incarceration in jail on charge of his friend's murder has put them both on the road to hell. Like many other viewers, I am appaled by Angad's obsession over Kripa while making no attempts to find the real killer of Josh. (And all viewers know who that is and the responsibility of Angad's incarceration falls to him). Since reliable sources have revealed Angad and Kripa's pending marriage and Prithvi's death for the future in Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, the bigger question is whether their mutual hatred for each other will be transformed in enough time to heal the wounds of the past and mend their shattered existence and wary hearts?
