I think Indian shows do have the potential to depict family bonding and relationships well since that is a big part of the culture....but then, as a ppl in general, Indians are prone to a lot of drama, which invariably reflects in art forms like movies and TV shows as well.....the 'masala' that is uniquely Indian....LOL

In general though, I would also like to see more variety being attempted on Indian TV....more of the classier mystery/thriller show variety and something more than just slapstick inane comedy....

Hi Anu....mystery/thriller shows wont ever get primetime here....coz as u said they tend to overdramatise things....n they'll eventually turn into smthing like those horror shows of the likes of 'aahat' n 'phir koi hain' ...'rooh' etc.....indian telly had started out with some great shows with great story lines....buniyaad nukkad faiji etc in the DD days....later stuff like sailaab hasratein....but now is al high melodraama.....i personally cant seem to follow through ne show indian or western on a regular basis....coz eventually all seem to loose track of the original premise.....i guess bidaai seems to be the only show that has managed to retain my interest....n the other show that i follow through regularly is Doctor Who....

I think American shows seriously benefit with their seasonal gaps...it gives the writers ample opportunity to further develop the story and the characters... it also allows time for the actors to relax so they can be in full form when they are required to perform....Not to mention, most prime-time shows only air once a week....things can move at much quicker pace...

@asingla: I think Indian shows have improved with their production values, but as for as storywriting goes, they've mainly regressed in favor of being overdramatic like in Kekta shows.....the earlier shows like buniyaad and all were very well written and had some brilliant actors.

Bidaai is a ray of hope in my opinion in finding a happy medium b/w good production values and great storytelling as well.

@Tanu: I totally agree with you....I invariably lose interest in most shows eventually as well, be it American or Indian.....Bidaai is the only show that truly as me hooked right now whose epis I look forward to....MJHT's dragging again.....uggh....only better MN scenes can really pull me back in again.

But Bidaai is in a great phase right now, and I hope the show always continues to be this good! :D

Although it is sad that cool mystery/thriller shows are not made in India :((.....I would so love to see those!

But then I guess, ppl get their share of that from the pathetic news channesl like Aaj Tak....we're getting a free preview of that channel here this week and I'm horrified to watch them calling it India's 'number one' news channel.....the anchors sound like they're narrating the script of B-grade movie....."Daakoo hasina"....sansanikhez khabar! "Dawood ko b'day pe kisi ne wish nahin kiya'.....what the hell kind of 'news' is this?? ROFL

yeah Anu those news channels are pathetic.....i remember there was this one feature on cows being airlifted n abducted by aliens or smthin !!!!.....also as far as production values r concerned indian telly has improved.....coz more money is being put in these days......but earlier serials like those id mentioned were far greater in story/writing content......bidaai seems to be able to maintain a balance between the hidh drama n good storyline......i just it doesnt degenerate in the future.....MJHT has bcome boring now.....i hardly watch the epis.....n iv never watched DMG......i mean its good as comedy but if one had to entrust their lives in the hands of these doctors then.....!!!!.....BV seems to be the other show with a good storyline....with equal importance to all characters as Bidaai does.....so they both deserve the awards they've got.....

🤣

OMG, yaar I fail to understand...do ppl actually LIKE this kind of 'news'??😕🤣.....This is frankly INSULTING to journalism! I'd pick a bland DD news broadcast anyday over freakin cows being abducted by aliens kinda news!🤣

Yes, MJHT has become boring now....the storyline's been dragging since a couple of weeks....there were random funny MN moments here and there (which is all I'm watching for anyways) but other than that, pretty blah.

And yes exactly, the fact that the buffoonery being done in DMG is by DOCTORS is the truly scary part.....but then, as I've oftened been told by mahagyaanis in that forum, 'the show is called DIL mil gayye, not doctors ban gayye'....amazing explanation, nahin?🤣

Anyways, coming back to the point...yep, I said the same thing in the post above....production values have gone up but content and storyline wise, things have gone down.....Bidaai and BV are both rare examples of shows which have both good production values as well as good storylines.

I feel like we're all predicting doom for the television industry in general. lol. Due to college, I don't watch shows much now, except online when I find time, so I kind of apathetically take in everything that both American and Indian TV shows give. If I loose interest, I stop watching. YouTube has become my best friend. lol. All shows have some good things in them. So I just skip to those in DMG, MJHT, Bidaai, or others.

Both the film and TV industry have become about finding a couple gems in a pile of otherwise uninteresting pile. But if if the people like it, I guess who am I to criticize every show other people watch but I haven't. With the news media in both America and India sensationializing everything, its becoming all blase now.
