Recently last time,It was judges choice round, so in this context lets talk about them. Observing them from quite sometime i'll put how i feel, each judge happens to judge, the way he/she remarks and relates to the participants, their possible plus and minus points if any.
Saroj Khan -
Way of Judging , atitude and Remarks:
Judges critically but still in a motherly way. She wont spare a bad dancer or be lenient though. She has high experience and announces her words like they are the last word on everything. If you argue with her on a issue, she gets worked up and looses the temper and good impression ,
expects only to listen and follow...or lets say she only takes serious defence to consideration and not silly exuses which is what it should be . But if you are dedicated, humble and talented she'll make you honured and nurtured. She can be dramatic and egoistic and has the most zeal..quite a zindadil manner. Her strength is her huge experience and great expertise .
Plus Points - Experience, knowledge, zeal , frankness and relating directly and familiarly to everything.
Minus Point - Blows her trumpet too much, Loud, Rude, short-tempered.
My complaint against her(IF ANY) -
Lately After each partcipant performs, first Malaika would speak up for the lonest time, then Saroj, then when it comes to Farhan's turn and he gives some very sensible point, saroj khan would consider this a good point and she must speak on it too. ( why didnt it occur to you first saroj, its his turn and its his ideas, let him speak)...she will speak in chorus( and given to the fact that she has a loud voice and he's softspoken) and wont let me hear what Farhan is saying, and i love to hear him, she will mostly speak with him, not letting him compete or not letting me hear him fully. And yes, i expected some more thoughtful comments from her seeing her experise and experience.
When i liked her - when V-R were exiting and she was so good to them, , when encouraging people with a whistle and caring for them, when she was in high spirits and whenever i thought she is offering them her experience to her best.
when i disliked her - Being harsh on certain people like manini-mihir without much of a reason, and when she didnt let anyone else speak, judges and particpats.
Malaika Arora -
Way of Judging , atitude and Remarks:
With experience that belongs to Saroj and knowledge of Art to Farhan, some people need some sensation in name of Malaika and the show needs a TRP booster kind . She is over all good, only thing is Madam sometimes is unpredictable and doesnt make sense at times, There are times she gave appropriate remarks even . But on others, she may complement you heavily on a performance and give you 5 and say you were nothing special and give you 9...Much beauty and less brain..On the other hand she is very soft with partcipants, the softest judge i think and very well mannered. She will say "sorry" before she criticises you even mildly, She loves the show, her face dazzles always, wants to come back with season two and is glamourous. Her strength is her wide exposure to media and glamour, confidence and popularity.
My complaint againts her (IF ANY)-
Does she always know what exactly she wants from participants and what she is talking about especially when the show started ( now she has improved quite a lot)? . Her remarks are repititive, nothing unique or very thoughtful about them.
When i liked her - whenever she showed the soft attitude, enthusiasm, and she is sexy but still decent, shabbir and some male participants tried flirting with her i thought, she handled them very nicely and gracefully.and i love her dress sense and style. And yes, she has offered some interesting remarks on occasion too.
when i disliked her - when she sometimes always spoke or began from the same thing - "you guys are wonderful, but ek kami thi"... are you a human being or a parrot malaika? or a tape recorder ?
Farhan Akhtar -
Way of Judging , atitude and Remarks:
Well here i can really say here is someone young of years but old of wisdom, owing to his remarks, which are crisp, laconic (speaking in moderation but speaking valuable words), using not too much words or not taking too much of time and effort- every time he'll come up with something unique and thoughtful, well observed and have a great point and sensibility in them.He offers the most interesting and versatile-always novel, and thoughtful remarks from among judges.
He isnt overly harsh nor soft but a well balanced - "honestly and non-partailly critical".. He is a perfectionist, appreciates art and effort , decent and reserved...wanting to involve with the artist, not the human being or actor or their gender as such...so he is strangely unattached still involved which is great... Each week, he comes with a fresh mind to applaud the one who is truly talented and hard working this round and who deserves good scores this round, irrespective of any pre-concieved notions and belives the best will win. He has a very fine sense of humour which is innocent, harmless, naughty but still nice. He's a connoisure and a suave gentleman(look at Shabbir and look at him when Malaika is sitting nearby almost topless ) and his onscreen charm does wonders. His strength is his intelligence, perfection, that Art runs deep both in his genes and his environment and he has both on-screen and off-screen charisma.
My complaints against him (IF ANY)-
Nothing as such. He's almost perfect with both his manner of conducting himself, his onscreen presence and ability as a judge. Being his ardent admirer, i'm not being partial, and trying to find out flaws, if any...but dont blame me if he doesnt have any in the first place. Its difficult and he's
almost faultless but if i dig hard, one area he needs to improve upon is may be he's too reserved, and sometimes his decency stops him from giving a very open remark in regards to something if it has to deal with private or erotic erena. Srungar or Erotic is the first and original form of art where it gets expressed through aesthtics...in the sexy and sensual round saroj khan said it as it is to Manini-Mihir - " Sex naam ki koi cheese hi nahin thi", and that should be the way when there is need to be open. Even he said that, but indirectly in a technical manner.Though such instances are very rare. And may be he can do with being bit more of an exhibitionist to participants too while expressing affection or appreciation( though he feels it deep down silently) , like hugging them on spot after their performances if he liked them a lot or things of that sort.
When i liked him - Always. But if we be specific, as a judge, from an objective point, when he came out of his cell and related to the Nach Baliye artists in an emotional level,of course that never meant he was earlier partial or non-considerate of them, its just that later he came to know them personally, their pains and happiness, their effort, the as artists and individuals and knew the Television world beyond Shahrukhs and Kareenas, hrithiks and prities. Personally I absolutely loved it when i had to opportunity to see him ore in his humane and private self, like being frenly and saying - "We Shall Dance" to fulfill the wish of a participant to dance with him , cracking a joke( when saroj khan fumbles with Amit's name and calls him Rohit, he announces "Suresh( Farhan) AND Geeta( Malaika) are sitting there enjoying" and omg it was damn funny), dancing himself, blushing to delnaz's courtings or enjoying the show with a child like gaity.
When i disliked him - Never. There is or was no reason to.(At least concerning his role on Nach Baliye)
Summing it Up - Combined they have been pretty good . All of them have done full justice to their roles, though in different ways and manners, Saroj like a stern, experienced teacher, Farhan like a perceptive, intelligent, perfectionist but reserved arist, and Malaika like a glamourous dancer and stage presence. They each have catered to the requirement of the judging scene from different angles, one from experience (S), another from aestehetis(F) and other from the stage presence and style(M)...like one has served as the Body(the rational and publicity side of art: Malaika) the other as Life ( Representation, effort, zeal, experince- Saroj) and another as the Heart and Mind( deeper and more ,introvert, pensive aspect of art :Farhan). Though at first i had doubts if they favoured or disfavoured anyone personally, after seeing each episode closely, i knew its an unfounded presumtion . Though they were emotionally close to certain people but that didnt affect their judging ever. Each round they gave marks purely on performance basis. Sometimes they didnt behave very sugary sweet to particpants when giving comments but thats for the best interest of the show and because their role required them to be very, very honest. They were from different genders, different age groups and with different expertise which added variety to their persona and made the judging scenario and the bonding with contestants and viewers even more versatile and interesting. All didnt have the same strengths or merits, or the same shortcomings( very slight) but each complemented the other that helped to make things wholesome through versatality like a rainbow.
