Suguna's in-laws come to visit Maasa and Bhairav..Suguna welcomes them and goes away. She stands hidden and listens in. Maasa happily tells Suguna's in-laws that she had bought some land in Suguna's name. The in-laws don't seem too excited. Suguna thinks to herself that something is wrong. Anandi goes to Gehna and apologises to her. Gehna consoles her everything was allright. Suguna's father-in-law tells Bhairav that he is concerned that Bhairav was not getting Suguna's gauna done. People in the village had started talking about this. Some were even suspecting that something was wrong with Pratap. They warn that if on the coming Sankranti they don't send Suguna, then they would look for another wife for Pratap. Suguna is broken to hear this.
After Suguna's in-laws leave, Maasa tells Bhairav that this is what she feared. She tells Bhairav to agree to everyone's wishes and send Suguna to her in-laws. Bhairav does not agree. He says that for the sake of maan-maryada and reeti-riwaj, he was not ready to sacrifice his daughter. Basanth sarcastically says that Bhairav would not listen to village-bumpkins like Maasa and Basanth. Bhairav tells Basanth that he would not listen to anyone when it came to his family's welfare. He tells everyone that he would never agree to send Suguna until she was 18. Suguna is heartbroken to hear all this.
Suguna is crying in her room. Sumitra comes there and consoles her that her father was thinking of her when he took such a decision. Suguna tells her that she doesn't care...no one asked her what she wished. Even Anandi, who was much younger than her had already had her gauna. Pratap would marry someone else and Suguna would be left alone..She keeps crying and tells Sumitra to leave her alone.
Sumitra goes to Bhairav and tells him that she feels that this time Bhairav may be wrong in his stand. Bhairav reminds her that it was a decision they both took together. Sumitra says that she remembers, but at this point, their decision would impact Suguna.Besides, they had got Anandi home just to appease Anandi's parents. Bhairav says that Anandi's case was different since Sumitra and Bhairav were there to protect her. But Suguna's in-laws wouldn't care that Suguna was not an adult and was not ready to bear children. Bhairav requests Sumitra to support him in his decision....
