Use of poetry in a song is an art form that takes time to master and above all the patience and perserverence of a teacher that loves and enjoys writing. One such great writer was the poet and song writer Shakeel Baduani or Shakeel Badayuni.
Shakeel Badauni was born in Badaun (U.P.) on 16th August 1916, and since his school days he had been participating in 'Mushairas' and other such 'mehfils'. He studied in Aligarh Muslim university, and had been awarded with various shields and certificates for his poetic activities. He did his graduation in 1942. He was a very sober person, far away from drinks and other such habits inwhich most of the poets are involved in. In 1942, he shifted over to Delhi and joined All India Radio, which made him well known to the poetic world, and it was in 1946 that he met A. R. Kardar, a very prominent film producer of that time, who inspired him to write for films. Shakeel Badauni was associated with music director Naushad in fiftees, and evensince then he was working with him. He had the privilege of having written songs for the top films 'Aan', 'Mother India', 'Ganga Jamuna', 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Mere Mehboob', 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and many more. However, he maintained his interest in independent and literary writings and contributed greatly to Urdu poetry. If we can study his poetry, we will find the meaningful and deep thoughts he depicted in his works.

The present collection is a representation of Shakeel Badauni's poetic works, which have been translated into English by Khwaja Tariq Mahmood who has compiled and translated works of many other Urdu poets also.

Shakeel used to say:
Main Shakeel Dil Ka Hoon Taurjma Ki Mohabbaton Ka Hoon Raazdaan Mujhe Fakr Hai Meri Shayari
Zindagi Se Juda Nahin

"Chaudhvin ka chand" lyrics by Shakeel Bayaduni

Chaudhvin Ka Chand (Hindi: ?????? ?? ????) is a 1960 Hindi feature film directed by Mohammed Sadiq. A production of Guru Dutt, the film centers on a love triangle between Guru Dutt, Rehman and Waheeda Rehman, and features music by Ravi. Farida Jalal is a guest appearance in the film, her debut. After a disastrous box-office performance of Kaagaz Ke Phool, this was a highly commercially successful and comeback movie for Guru Dutt. The movie saved Guru Dutt's home production studio from ruins. According the interview by V.K. Murthy the movie made profits of then what a 100 movies were to have made. Everyone were sure of the movie's success, however not to the levels movie grossed.

Though not directed by Guru Dutt, the movie has an unmistakable stamp of the maestro! Some of the songs have been immortalized by beautiful lyrics, music and cinematography and are as popular today as they were in the days this movie was released.

u know u r so right...if we all study his poetry we will find deep thoughts.....
nowadays i think most of the poetry is gone in music(no offence to any lyricist) with the exception of a few songs but as long as a song is peppy & has a great beat...people dont really listen to the lyrics....
just my opinion no offence to anybody please.

It is quite true for the fast modern songs which repeat a lot of simple lines.
But quite a lot of new songs have very good accoustics and musical arrangements due to technical advancement. Still some are very well written.

koi na sang marein, man re tu kahe na dheer dhare..
tum pas aaye, yun muskuraaein..
tum bin, jaaon kahaan, ke duniya mein aake..

mind blowing mahiya
aye chori, zara naachke dikha!
aaaaye o aayye o KRAZZY 4 ..

i love the lyrics of this song:-

tujse naraj nahi zindagi
hairaan hoon main
pareshaan hoon main..........

NOW:

pehli nazar mein aisa jaado kardiya
tera ban betha hai mera jiya
jaane kya hoga kya hoga kya pata
is pal ko aa milke jeele zara........

and

naa hai yeh paana
naa khona hi hai
tera naa hona jaane kyun hona hi hai
tumse hi din hota hai surmaye shaam aati hai
tum se hi.......GOSH I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!
