The global meltdown notwithstanding Diwali brought in a lot of cheer for Bollywood. And now with the year coming to a close, producers and distributors are hoping that the Big five manage to get the cash registers ringing. Here's taking a look at the films on which everyone's pinning their hopes. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – Shah Rukh Khan Release date: December 25 | Amount at stake: Approx Rs 50 cr Directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Allu Aravind Ghajini stars Aamir Khan, Jiah Khan and Asin Thottumkal. With music by AR Rahman, the film is said to be an adaptation of the Hollywood film Memento where the protagonist suffers from short term memory loss and seeks revenge for his wife's murder. Said to be made on a budget of Rs 40 cr, approximately Rs 10 cr are being spent only on publicity. Release Date: November 21 | Amount at stake: Approx Rs 40 cr Produced and directed by showman Subhash Ghai Yuvvraaj stars Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif. Ghai's favourite, AR Rahman has composed the songs for this musical. The film tells the story of three brothers playing games to inherit their father's wealth. According to trade sources, the movie is made at an approximate budget of Rs 30 cr and Rs 10 cr have been spend for publicity. Release Date: November 14 | Amount at stake: Approx Rs 40 cr If the trailers of this movie are anything to go by, it looks like a film that shouldn't be missed. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Karan Johar, the film stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. The publicity shows the film exploring a homosexual angle with Boman Irani playing a gay character. With Priyanka Chopra on the roll and John and Abhishek making a comeback together after Dhoom, it certainly looks like a film to watch out for. |
Jumbo – Akshay Kumar
Release Date: December 19 | Amount at stake: Approx Rs 30 crores
Produced by Percept Picture Company, this animation film stars the voices of Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Dimple Kapadia, Mithun Chakraborty, Paresh Rawal and Asrani among others. With music by Pritam, Jumbo is the story of an elephant which also is supposed to impart the importance of family values to children.
