With times not go
Balaji's new face Krunal Verma doesn't believe in compromise
November 4th, 2008
ing right for Soap queen Ekta Kapoor, she has finally given up with its 'K' factor and her upcoming show is titled Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna. Young and dashing Krunal Verma is going to make his debut with this show. The twenty one year old actor will be portraying the character of Yugandhar and the youngster relates the character with Bollywood star Ranvir Kapoor. "Like Ranvir Kapoor, Yugandhar is a handsome and a sweet guy. But apart from being sweet, he is also clever by nature. I am sure viewers are going to love this character," speaks the young gun. Ranvir's personality seems to have impressed Krunal a lot and he desires to fit into his shoe one day, "I maybe just like Ranvir in the show. But I would love to become like him in my real life too."
The show business isn't new for Krunal. He has the experience of modeling world behind him. "I have done a lot of print modeling before taking on this show. Through modeling I got a straight entry in the Mr. India contest which is going to be held in February," shares Krunal. But taking on a daily has now forced Krunal to change his plans. "Due to this show maybe I wouldn't be able to participate in the competition now," expresses Krunal. Though dejected, Krunal still sees a ray of hope to continue with his first love, i.e., modeling, "I would surely speak with Ekta Kapoor. Maybe she would grant me permission to participate in the competition." Well, why wouldn't she, especially when the actor leaves no opportunity to praise the queen, "I respect Ekta Kapoor a lot. I am also thankful to her for choosing a fresher like me for her show and hence giving me a chance to prove myself. The biggest asset she possesses is that she can judge the right people needed for the particular work."
The journey isn't been easy for this sweet lad. Even he wasn't spared by the casting couch experience. "After winning a lot of modeling competition I thought of doing professional modeling. But gradually I realized the success mantra in this field is to compromise rather than hard work. This is the reason I let go many projects. Rather then getting frustrated on it, I patiently waited for the right projects; the ones which I get through my honesty and hard work. Coincidentally I got a nice break in N M College's Umang Festival which helped me establish my name in this industry. And then I got the golden offer from Balaji," shares Krunal.
The actor feels he isn't yet prepared to step into the world of Bollywood. "I just want to concentrate on television for one year before even thinking about getting in the films. At present, I am not capable of working in films." Krunal signs out on a philosophical note, "I want to improve my present by doing good work. Good present converts into a better future." - Rajnee Gupta (SAMPURN)

Ekta's new find - Kunal Sharma
Ekta's introduced another hunk to television, and it's Kunal Sharma. Kunal's debuted on Balaji's first non-K serial, Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi Sajna and he spoke of being given the opportunity to act on TV.
Ekta's new find - Kunal Sharma
"I went for auditions twice, but they selected someone called Srirang Sharma," he said, "but then I think ma'm (Ekta) did not feel that he is right for the show and they called me again for what's called a looks test."
Two days after that, he said, he got a call saying he'd play the role of Yugandhar. He says a friend of his accompanied him on the audition, though he'd himself been rejected the first time. "He's always been lucky for me." he said.
Kunal won a talent hunt and was to participate in the Mr India contest which now he says he cannot do.
"Getting a chance to work with Balaji was the best thing that could happen to me," he says.
Kunal is still in college, studying at Thakur college and his tender age shows up when he faces the camera.
"I was very nervous and had to do lots of retakes," he said, "the whole unit started losing patience with me and it took me four hours to give my first shot."
The shoot happened at the hill station of Mahabaleshwar.
Now, Kunal says, he's used to the pressure and "getting the hang of it." On the show, Kunal plays a lover boy over from Canada. He learns that his girlfriend Vrinda's parents and his are rivals and he sets about reuniting them.

Day 8: No progress in sight
(17 November 2008 10:00 pm)
MUMBAI: The Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) are facing the heat of the on-going dispute between the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and TV producers union.
In its eight day, none of the three parties had blinked, refusing to budge from their stances. However, it is to be seen how long will each of them hold out.
Since 10 November, nine GECs have blanked out fresh shows, following a joint stand taken by them.
When contacted a producer said, "No we have had no meetings either with broadcasters or workers." The producers, however, had a marathon meeting this evening.
FWICE general secretary Dinesh Chaturvedi said: "We only want revised wages for our workers."
When asked about how long viewers may have to go through this ordeal, Chaturvedi added: "I believe this situation may stretch up 20-21 November."
Meanwhile, there were rumours in the industry this morning that the strike had been called off and that the producers had managed to convince the FWICE to increase wages by 10-12 per cent as against their demand of 15 per cent. Additionally, senior officials from Sony Entertainment Television were also of the opinion that the strike is likely to be called off soon - in fact within "a couple of days."
When an indiantelevision.com correspondent went to meet the FWICE officials in the afternoon, the office was packed with workers who were discussing wages for the various crafts with the union leaders.
However, chaturvedi rejected the rumour saying that no resolutions seems to be in the sight that they would stand firm and united on their demands.''No strike settlements can be reached without me knowing the details,"he said
